2023 Allen & Ginter Thread!
10 Attachment(s)
Folks, exciting times ahead as more of the 2023 subjects are revealed! Here are a few that I've seen posting recently and I'm sure there are more to come here soon. I don't know all of these folks but based on their following a lot of folks will!
So Far Thomas Ian Nichols (Henry Rowengartner) Bomani Jones DJSkee Sarah Natochenny (Voice of Ash in Pokemon - this one will be insane!) Kyle Gordon (pictured) Gorilla Nems (pictured) Adam Lefkoe (Producer and host of NBA on TNT, pictured) Jordan Lopez at MVP Barbershop (MLB player haircuts, Presidente of Freshness) Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) Jonathan Valena at Jonboy Tattoo Ari Chambers Ermsy Olivia Pichardo Captain Sandy Yawn Bella Rasmussen Chris Fowler Casey Webb (Host/Actor) Hoodie Allen (Rapper) Ian Rappoport (Sportswriter) Jefferson White (Actor, Producer from Yellowstone) Ollie Palmer (Soccer star) Lil Baby (musical artist) Adam Ray (Comedian) John DiMaggio (Voice Actor from Futurama and Adventure Time) -Really loving the A&G coin logo design as well. It would be amazing if those were actually released as coins. -And I am a fan of these having different inscriptions on them too, nice new(ish) touch! -hearing rumors of an August release which I hope is true! Have you seen any others yet? |
Topps sucks with getting non sport guys that people actually care about. They used to do a good job.
|
Licensing is tough to get big names it seems. It is a shame. Would be awesome to get a couple A list folks.
|
Added in Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family!
|
I HATE that new logo

The auto selection has been a joke for years. Ginter was always about champions and baseball players. i'm a huge ginter guy, but this stuff has been a joke.
|
Not a single person I’d be interested in so far. Hoping for at least 1 big name to be announced before release

I'm a big fan of Ginter every year and I do like the logo, pretty cool. I'll wait to see the complete autograph checklist before taking a big dump on the entire product. Hoping to hit a weird "Ginter" hit this year, has been a few years since pulling something whacky. Plus I definitely want to pull a rip card to add to the collection!

I’m also a ginter collector and haven’t been pleased with the product, auto checklist and price for years now. It used to be a great rip, now I just resort to singles - and pickup Brooklyn back minis for dirt cheap - considering they hit like 1 per case now! Logo is solid, but need to to really bring the life back into Ginter with more autos, surpises and value. |

I have always enjoyed Ginter in the past, but I’m tiring of it the past few years. Might only buy singles of who I really want and skip opening myself or doing a base set.
|
I used to be a big Ginter guy. Now the names are trash.

Agreed |
I’ve been critical of the lackluster non-baseball autos for years now. 2020 full size autos were solid, but most years have been poor for a long time now. Typically one good one to chase and a bunch of others most people don’t care much about.
That said, I like the start to this year. Ash and Henry Rowengartner. Heck yea. I’ll be in the minority but the Coney Island video with Nems is hilarious and I’ll absolutely be looking for one with the Bing Bong inscription. The Modern Family guy is funny. Lefkoe isn’t someone I care about but is a name in the card hobby. If the rest of the list rounds out like the first part has then this could be a nice year relatively speaking. Not a fan of the coin, though. Too big and bright. Overpowers the person on the card. |

Same here minus DJSkee, and that's only because of P70. |
I miss when the non-baseball players were still athletes. To get back to the champions theme, why not Masters champions like Scottie Scheffler or Jon Rahm? How about NBA Slam Dunk Contest champs like Dee Brown or Vince Carter? How about just a random Super Bowl MVP like Desmond Howard. When they had the WWE and UFC licenses, there was no shortage of wrestlers and fighters they could have included in each release.
Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky, but I would take anything similar to these than most of these subjects that have little to no nexus to sports |

AU design looks a tad better than last year but i felt 22' was one of the ugliest ginter sets ever made
|
I really want a Thomas Ian Nichols. I hope it isn't an SP.
|
I'll still buy it but that's an ugly design.. I wish they'd stop doing the borders on these.
|
I wonder if big non-sport names just don't want to bother signing, or there are licensing issues....or A&G just doesn't try anymore.
Sign me up for a Henry Rowensmussen auto though! |

This is probably my biggest complaint of the past few years. I would love it if they completely overhauled the product line, got back to the minimalist and elegant design it was based on, and made it a higher end product like Flawless. I would get into quite a few breaks if they did that. Arthur |

Arthur
I could get behind that. I prefer the early designs better and this could be a great place for high-end autos with those designs. |
