Topps and World Baseball Classic?
Will Topps make a World Baseball Classic product with packs and boxes kinda how Panini did the World Cup boxes?
Years back, they had WBC cards in random products but it would be nice for it to be its own product. |
Semi-related thought: Those "An International Affair" Topps Chrome cards from the last WBC are some of my favorites ever, great set with a lot of iconic players at all stages of their careers.
|
I thought Topps failed to take full advantage of USA's win the last time. They could have made a special autograph set similar to what they've done with World Series winners.
|
Pretty sure Panini has the rights to USA Baseball products. Maybe we'll see something from Topps with other countries' full uniforms but airbrushed USA players?
|
I hope so! It was a small set but I liked collecting the Beisbol inserts from '21 TC

Don't think they will need to airbrush the uniforms. Topps had 2017 WBC cards with the Team USA uniforms on them even when Panini had the rights to USA Baseball |
The team USA from the wbc is not the same as USA baseball.
|
Hopefully, they can do a Topps Now one at least.
|
They definitely did Topps Now for the WBC in 2017.
Both daily cards (including autos, relics and relic-autos) and team sets for the final four. Those Netherlands team sets (incl. Xander Bogaerts) are a tough find at PR:70... https://www.beckett.com/news/2017-topps-now-world-baseball-classic/ |
2017 Topps Museum also had WBC patch cards.
|
Would be nice to have a team set for every team and a few autos of every team as well

Good point. |
The WBC is a joint venture between the players association and the league. So if anyone is going to have a license for this, it’s topps.
|
There was a WBC box set in 2009, and then in 2013 they had Topps Tribute WBC hobby boxes, with patches and autographs.
Not sure how successful this was at the time, nor whether any of these cards sell well 10 years later, but I think this was Topps' only dedicated WBC hobby box release. |
Looks like there are two cards up today. Starting a thread here.
