Munetaka Murakami Thread

Might be early but hopefully he'll be in the majors in the future. This may sound like a pump thread but I own zero of his cards and feel that those that want to make some $$$ should pick up some 2021 NPB topps or topps chrome cards of this kid(his stuff is already pricy but imo should have some room to grow). He also has some 2018 cards with a RC logo on it. Once a MLB team picks him up, those will be Haha. Some stuff about this kid.

Broke Japan's HR record this year hitting 56.
Batting .318.
Looks like a buffed up ohtani.
Batting stance similar to ohtani.
22 years old.

Lamo. I know right.

I started seriously following NPB after Roki did his thing and was shocked at how little the hobby buzz was over Murakami relative to Roki/Seiya in the '21 Topps NPB products.

Ohtani is really the only player from Japan who has become a star since...Dice K?

The hype on Seiya was completely ridiculous for a 28 year old rookie

The only player I can think of that has been pretty good since dice k is Yu Darvish. If Murakami can keep hitting like 40+ HRs the next few years, I'm sure a team in the MLB will sign him once his contract ends or a MLB team decides to buy out his contract to sign him. Chicks love the long ball and so does blowout.

SaveMeTheGum 11-12-2022 06:12 PM

He hit 56 HR's this year and already has Topps and Topps Chrome cards. The cat has been out of the bag for a while on this guy.

I agree with that but there are people who are clueless about Japan baseball. Those MJ holding mystery box that is floating around Walmart might be something to pick up and hold or break. I watched some breaks on youtube and the person opening them was agitated to get a 2021 topps NPB and chrome pack.

Knew I was spacing out on one. Yeah Darvish is good. $30 topps chrome NPB base for this guy. Agree with savemethegum.

I know different country but he reminds me of Hee-seop Choi.

BabaORiley 03-20-2023 10:13 PM

well-timed bump.

Glad the kid broke out of his WBC funk tonight.

Won’t be long before we start hearing about him. My gut tells me he will be going to the Dodgers.

In case people miss it, this thread is from 2022. Figured there had to be an older one out there instead of creating a new one.

ThoseBackPages 10-19-2025 10:49 AM

why wouldnt he be LA bound?

yoyosh 10-19-2025 10:57 AM

Polarizing talent for sure. His Baseball savant metrics are wild.
