Trae Young rookie cards
1 Attachment(s)
I've been trying to get a trae rc auto for the past year and have noticed consistently outrageous prices.
Is he priced in for 5 championships?? |
Trae Young is good, but I honestly don't understand the hype. He averaged 15 ppg in the playoffs last year. I think he should prove himself more to warrant these high prices.
|
Think this is mainly cracked ice being overpriced more than Tare Young being overpriced. Check the other versions and they should be more affordable.
|
it's called shilling. you didn't need to start a thread for this.
|
Most of his rookie contenders optic auto can be bought for $1k-$3k.

Still too high. |
A lot of rich guys and a lot of dreamers with cash to spare bought into him a while back, they're desperate to either A, get their money back so keep listing for high numbers with high hopes and / or B, they list for exorbitant prices because they're stubborn and rich and are willing to sit on the cards until they're old and decrepit to make every last penny of their money back...or possibly a little profit. C, some people are absolutely clueless and think that their sports cards are worth their weight in platinum because of the inflation / fixing of sports cards over the past couple years.
Same deal with a lot of cards, not just the player you mentioned. |
I bought a 2018 encased panini instant trae young /5 auto for $500 recently. I believe you can find great deals just look where people are not looking. Set name is everything in this hobby and personally I only like non pack pulled cards because the market seems to value them less from what I can see. It could be that there is less exposure since people mainly look at the key sets when buying/holding because people feel more comfortable buying those cards that people are familiar with.

Trae is the most heavily shilled player on eBay.
|
While I believe prices paid on sports cards for young talents are outrageous nowadays, I feel like people are paying a premium for Trae specifically, given that many investors think they can achieve Stephen Curry-type returns for his cards.
A Top 5 Point Guard at 24 years old who is consistently averaging over 25 points and nearly 10 assists every game for the past 3-4 seasons. His flashy style of play and unlimited range also help him get hobby love points. At the moment, he is the closest thing to Stephen Curry's build as a player (an undersized guard who can shoot the lights out). Most importantly, you need to take into consideration the sets (Cracked Ice or Gold hype is insane). |
I think I think more of him than most here who have responded. I find him right at the beginning edge of ‘Hobby Good’

Out of curiosity, what did he average during the 20-21 playoffs? |
Dudes out here really hyping guys like Mathurin and Anfernee Simons. Yet a 2x all star, all-nba, ECF GigaManlet is somehow overrated.
Good Hair smiling through it all in his Lebron pool stance. He can't believe this is his life. Opie: you're a great man with impeccable taste. |
The usual trae haters appear on cue.

My guess: Somewhere in the middle. |

Plus, he's in a pretty darn good team situation for the foreseeable future. I see a lot worse guys to be 'invested' in at the moment (since that's all BO's been about these past few months). |
Could just be some ballers in GA who want the card you never know. One of the co-founders of DraftKings bought a Tatum off me earlier this year. Didn't really have any comps for the card so i put what i thought was a high price on it and he bought it.

Not just as a player, but the teammates, the coach, the organization... everything came together for Steph and he took it to the max. |

Just put up 42/6/5 at MKE. Not bad.
