What's happening to your collection after you pass away?

Was thinking about this the other day...

What will happen to my collection after i pass away. Most of my family doesn't really like sports. My oldest daughter goes to the National every time it's in Chicago and likes the busting of boxes/packs and non-sport cards, but that's about it.

Will they keep it? Doubt it, maybe some of it.
Will they get rid of it? Maybe, but I feel like they won't know any of the value and either give it away or sell it dirt cheap and pennies on the dollar.
or do I just not care about what happens to it, because, well, I'm dead...

What do you think will happen to your collection?

It's already in my will that my Son gets all of my baseball cards and memorabilia.

I'm trying to instill in him collecting. He collects a little baseball and Pokemon. My guess, is it'll all get sold though. :(

Taking it with me. :coffee:

Don't care. If my kids want it, great. If not, they'll get a crash course in selling sports cards. I'm sure people will want all my 20th century base cards ;) decades from now (knock on wood).

It will be placed around my body on a wooden ship, doused with whale oil, pushed out to sea, and set ablaze with flaming arrows. Along with my best horse and several members of my household.

I have all my slabs rigged up Banksy style to go off at my death.

Don't know, don't care. No kids, and my wife doesn't like sports. She can throw everything away for all I care. I've been getting to the point where I'll enjoy having something for a while, but then sell it off. No point in hanging onto things forever.

It will be donated to Josh Rosen’s grandchildren.

BostonNut 10-19-2022 10:21 AM

Who cares? I’m dead.

mattglet 10-19-2022 10:34 AM

Riley Pint's (assumed he will have) children will probably throw away all the cards that will be going to them.

Ryno is executor of my estate, so he'll take care of the details, but spoiler alert, most of it is going to preakness. I have a toy train for tritty, and two magazines for Boo. Haven't decided yet on who gets the Beanie Babies collection, so you all might want to be nice to me.

If i die young, bury me in zions
Lay me down on uh bed of bird cards
Sink me in the river, with my Lebrons
Tell PSA its ok if my order takes long

If i die young…

How old are you that you were thinking about this? Serious question

Jgil316 10-19-2022 10:55 AM

I have a collection that I have put together over the years (cards, memorabilia) that will go to my daughters.

I’m all seriousness this is why my entire PC is graded

We can argue graded until we all die… other threads for that… I don’t care if you think it’s a scam (you meaning whomever)

But it will make selling so much easier for my family in 40 years

My wife will sell it all for what I told her I've spent on cards over the years. So about 300 bucks.

In all seriousness, my wife and kids don't have interest other than the financial aspect. I have two friends who collect, and we have all agreed to help each other's wives sell our collections based on who goes first. And now we wait...

mmbtvs 10-19-2022 11:38 AM

My wife is to contact another specific blowout member to help her unload it and give her the money.

Very likely, that's what I do with Pint cards now.

I told my kids you can keep it or sell it, I’ll be dead.
