What will happen to Bonds record breaking stats??
The single season and all-time hr records. I feel like it's sort of stuck in limbo all this time. On the one hand MLB can't remove it from the record books even though it's a huge stain on the sport, but then they totally refuse to acknowledge or glorify the hr records. I think they will be just playing the waiting game and wait for some generational talent to dethrone Bonds. could be a very long time though.

Nothing.
Record counts. No one should beat it for a long time. |
Nothing to really be worried about. They're not going to do anything, ever. Bonds holding those records is bad, but there are far bigger stains on MLB.
|
He's going to continue holding them and eventually, the pearl clutchers associated with the game will fade away while the rest of us celebrate the records.

Could not agree more.

The list for most homers in a season is umm, quite dubious for the non Yankees on it...
73 Barry Bonds, San Francisco (N.L.)2001 70 Mark McGwire, St. Louis (N.L.) 1998 66 Sammy Sosa, Chicago (N.L.) 1998 65 Mark McGwire, St. Louis (N.L.) 1999 64 Sammy Sosa, Chicago (N.L.) 2001 63 Sammy Sosa, Chicago (N.L.) 1999 61 Roger Maris, New York (A.L.) 1961 60 Babe Ruth, New York (A.L.) 1927 59 Babe Ruth, New York (A.L.) 1921 |

Comparing statistics across different eras of MLB is a flawed approach, anyway. You can't fairly compare the raw numbers of Bonds, Ruth, Aaron and Maris because they all played within significantly different playing environments and conditions. For example, the baseballs used by MLB have differed significantly throughout its history.
You also have the cases of Willie Mays and Ted Williams, who both missed years of playing time due to military service. Mays got screwed out of a chance of breaking Ruth's home run record due to 2 years of military service early in his career. Even when comparing the numbers of players of the same generation, it can be unfair. For example, Bonds had to hit in very pitcher friendly Pac Bell Park, while Sammy Sosa got to hit at home run friendly Wrigley. Likewise, Willie Mays had to hit at windy and cold Candlestick Park, while Hank Aaron got to hit at warm and home run friendly Atlanta Stadium. |
They will remain unbroken forever.
Regarding stains, Pete Rose is far worse than Bonds. He's the skid mark on MLB's underwear. |

I don't condone it, but it sure as hell was fun to watch! |

It's already been 15 & 20 years since he set those records. It's going to continue to be what it's been. They aren't glorifying them because no one is anywhere near either of them. |
You know the craziest trivia about Bonds' home run totals? He only hit 50 home runs once!
Opposing pitchers were too chicken to pitch to him. |
Bonds! :)!

Most feared hitter to ever live!

Haha -- same. It was my first season watching MLB. I believe Chris Berman hosted, yes? The 90s were such simpler times. |

I don't know a single sports fan in real life that takes his records seriously. Everyone I know who is interested in sports on say, a daily basis, is talking about Judge breaking Maris' record. That's the reality.
