Davis Mills - Worth the Investment?

I’d love to hear some thoughts.. I have been picking up some of his lower end stuff, but am contemplating a bigger purchase. I’m curious to hear others opinions on him at this price point. A Silver Prizm auto sells around $260 and a Contenders around $150. I’d love to hear some discussion. Cheers!

last year, i would have said yeah, this year, i'm not so sure. i think right now, he's kinda priced high for a really bad football team. i think Justin Fields is a better QB to swing your money towards, but that's just me.

Where does Mills rank on your top QBs under 30?

JoshAllen3000 08-18-2022 12:51 AM

IMO 2 things have to happen:

1) The hobby needs to increase in popularity
2) He needs to be a top 5 fantasy QB and the Texans need to be in the hunt for the division title

If either of those don't pan out, tough to see prices rising

7sinVegas7 08-19-2022 06:03 PM

Speculating on unproven prospects is speculation, having said this a poor O-Line will doom any young QB. I see...injuries in Mills future and plenty of clipboard holding - He'll be a career back up at best.

tyrith 08-20-2022 07:23 AM

If he never becomes a top 10 QB, his prices will only go down from here. The 22nd best QB in the league has no hobby relevance - that's a player that only gets to be a starter for 3-5 years.

TimBuckTwo 08-20-2022 08:09 AM

I say - Who?

sonnyday 08-20-2022 08:55 AM

No. Investing in David Mills Sports Cards is not a good investment.

Just a friendly reminder, Drew Lock sold near those prices in 2019/2020. Now look where he is at.

I actually was looking to get Mills stuff thinking he would be relatively cheap. Then I saw his stuff selling for way higher than it should be IMO.

jhssketchcards 08-20-2022 09:43 AM

I’m not saying he’s a good investment but who really knows? How many here thought Goff, Wentz, Mayfield, Ryan, Rosen etc we’re good investment? How many thought Brady was a good investment back in 2000? Just like in baseball no one really knows. Experts didn’t predict how good Joe Montana would be. Everyone thought Dan Marino would rule the NFL and while he was stellar, no SB wins for such a can’t miss stud. Mills May not develop, but all it takes is getting in the right system. Ask Matthew Stafford.

He is to high priced right now. Texans probably finish near the bottom again this year and if he doesn't do well I think the Texans draft Stroud or Young.

weeds73 08-20-2022 01:12 PM

As the poster above just said, I doubt this guy will really get a chance. They hardly have any weapons and will finish near the bottom of the league. Ownership/GM will feel compelled to draft a franchise quarterback with a top draft pick. Wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up having a career like Gardner Minshew. Solid player as a fringe starter, but probably won’t get a shot

His stats and QBR was only behind Mac Jones for last years rookie QBs. I feel he has enough talent to be decent but the team is a black hole for him. I plan to dump most of his stuff in the next few weeks. Gonna suck if I’m wrong lol.

discodanman45 08-21-2022 12:00 AM

Derek Carr has a better chance of being a hall of famer than Davis Mills has of being as throwing as many yards in his entire career that Carr has right now. His prices are insane.

tactowncollect 08-21-2022 01:35 AM

I don't see Mills being a part of the Texans rebuild long-term. He's just a stop-gap QB

bloodwings19 08-21-2022 01:50 AM

During my lunch, I listen to the sports radio out of Houston and the reviews in practice are mixed. I heard the local newspaper reporter said that Mills would have an #1 pick draft pick great day then next day, he would look like a draftee-invite player. This is training camp, so he may look a lot better during the regular season, but his prices are too high to invest.

this is not true, Burrow and the bengals overcame a bad o-line and went to the superbowl. that being said, burrow was drafted #1 for a reason.

FBCardFan 08-22-2022 07:18 AM

It would have been nice if the Texans brought in some weapons for him besides Marlon Mack. His numbers last year, over a full season, were better than any of the other rookies and he had a poor line, no run game and Cooks/Nico as his wrs. He had 3x 300yd games and 5x multiple TD games in 13 games. In contrast Mac Jones had 2 and 7 in 18 and TLaw had 1 and 2 in 17 games. He may easily out produce every rookie from 2021 this year but would still drop as the Texans lose games.

This is a great spin.

His QBR put him #26 in the league for players that started a game(s). He was 25th in yards per catch. And 23rd in TD's. He was bottom half, of the bottom half, of QB's last year.

Only 6 rookies started games in 2021. And he was second best to them!

keysersoze3421 08-22-2022 08:33 AM

His black finite 9.5 is at 37k with 3.5 days left.

All this narrative about Davis is hilarious to me. I mean, there was a game vs the Seahawks where he completed 66% of passes, 300+ yards, 1 touchdown, 0 interceptions....but they lost 33-13.

How about vs the Rams where he went 29/38 for 310 yards, 2 TD's and 1 interception. Oh, but all of that was in the 4th quarter when they were down 38-0.

I don't care much about QBR, but there is a reason his is so low. I don't know why there is so much hype about him, he is more likely to be a backup ala Gardner Minshew in the next few years than suddenly become Justin Herbert

DiamondDonovan 08-24-2022 11:10 AM

I don't see Houston doing well this year, probably will be able to find better prices on him during the season or next off-season.

Be funny if this ended up being an 800 pager
