Crap eBay seller acstoysandmore2015

Charged me $4.60 for standard shipping and then sent the card using eBay standard envelope.

Card was supposed to arrive by today, and the seller just shipped it this afternoon.

Chomping at the bit to neg this guy, but I figured I'd give them an opportunity to refund my shipping monies first.

eBay seller ID is acstoysandmore2015.

That's infuriating! I have no problem for paying for priority, as long as that's how it's sent! Will you email the seller first just to see 'what's up?'. I totally agree a neg is warranted if this wasn't an honest oversight resulting in a refund on the shipping to you.

cruiserdaddy7 08-05-2022 11:45 AM

I'd email the seller first to get an explanation.

sthoemke 08-05-2022 03:52 PM

I recently paid $5 shipping for a card, and it arrived in a bubble envelope without protection (not even a piece of cardboard). The card got bent in the mail.

I sent them a message the day the card was supposed to arrive. He didn't respond, but shortly after added the tracking that confirmed he had just shipped the card that day. Once I saw the tracking was ESUSXXXXXXX I knew he took me on the shipping (paid $4.60), so I asked for that money back in said message, to which I received no response.

edit: I should also mention the tracking hasn't updated since the day it was added (08/03), and the seller has one negative (6 mo.) regarding a "fake" tracking number and having to get eBay involved...oy vey...

Id neg him - uncalled for and the zero communication tops it off

That tracking system is broken. Ive bought cards before and theyve only had the first scan/update. No other update at all. I did eventually receive the cards.

Yeah, I understand that. I've had numerous cards shipped standard envelope at this point and I've had that happen to me as well. I suppose I shouldn't be so quick to assume the card won't show up at some point, but like I said, the seller does already have a neg for providing a false tracking number.

Regardless of whether or not I receive the card though, my biggest qualm is being lied to about shipping costs. As of right now, I let eBay know I haven't received it, and they'll be able to step in on the 11th. If I receive it before the 11th that's fine, but I'm still going after the seller for my $4.60, heh.

No offence, but you are paying for shipping and handling. The true cost of postage, in addition to any materials needed in order to ship safely. Plus, the time it takes for the seller to physically send your package. Its all cumulative.

So you think it's okay that I was charged $4.60 for something that cost the seller ~$1.00?

What's your eBay ID?

Oh, and FWIW, the tracking still hasn't updated from the initial "Tracking number provided" notification, and the seller never responded to my message. I'm just gonna follow through with eBay on the 11th, end it, and get my refund.

"What's your eBay ID?"??
You need a thicker skin if you can't take someone's genuine opinion in a thread that YOU started. He never said it was OK, just that shipping charges are always more than the price of the stamp.
And my ebay ID is posted right up front- unlike yours- if you feel any urges.

There are two distinct shipping options with vastly different prices. If you're one to factor in materials and handling put it in the cost of the item, not the cost of the shipping service when you can only charge postage cost for a specific type of shipping service.

This isn't an opinion, it's a fact. The service costs more because of the higher quality protection allowed by paying the extra postage.

OK I see what you mean.

I don't necessarily agree with this... it's not wrong, but not the only way to do it. For example, I may package an item slightly differently depending on whether someone elects BMWT (actually allowing for MORE protection) vs. standard envelope (I am limited in thickness). For the most part it probably comes out in the wash, though.

Similar to above this is one way to think about it, but in this instance, if your "handling" drives up the cost of "shipping and handling" 400%, there's something about your system you need to reconsider.

But there needs to be a ceiling to that. We already know the true cost, as these must be shipped in regular envelopes. I use a business envelope, one piece of paper for protection, a toploader, and a shipping label. Even if I used a premium toploader and tried to account for the ink on the label that barely gets me over $1.00 in expenses including postage (as a seller) v.s. the $4.60 being charged. Not to mention I could do at least 30 of these in an hour.

So Let's call it $108/hr for handling. Hmmm. Let's see...become an attorney or "handle" packages? The decisions our youth must contemplate.

It does not cost the seller $1. This is where I do not understand the way people think sometimes. I am not saying the seller did not overcharge, what I am saying is that it is not egregious when you look everything broken down.

Seller charges $4.60 for postage. I am basing these costs on materials that I would use to ship a card.

Postage cost - $1
Top loader - $.75
Team bag - $.10
Fuel/time/envelope - $1.50

That is approximately $3.25 and is more reflective of the true cost of logistics. If you are upset that someone made an extra $1 off you, so be it. That is your choice.

Anyone who nickels and dimes shipping and "handling" like this shouldn't be selling cards on eBay.
Anyone who nickels and dimes shipping and "handling" like this shouldn't be selling cards on eBay.
Anyone who uses "handling" to justify stealing money from people, really.

If I pay $4.60 for shipping, that means (in my experience) I get a tracking number that actually updates, and the card arrives (within the allotted timeframe) in a bubble mailer, none of which I'm getting in this scenario. I'd be shocked if the card shows up at this point. It didn't come today, at least.

Trying to justify the behavior is trying to justify theft. It's really that simple.

Not about having a thick skin, it's about not wanting to do business with someone willing to send a card PWE that has the audacity to charge BMWT prices, or people willing to defend the behavior. It's a scummy way to make money no matter how you look at it.

Keep charging $3.50-$4.50 for ESE PWE shipping. I’m sure you’ll have tons of returning customers and no complaints.

I don't. I charge $4 for a bubble mailer/top loader taped in a team bag.

Don't believe anyone has any issues with this. It's the $4.60 for eBay Standard Envelope that OP received that is the issue. Even adding in the materials, etc. if I paid any more than $1.50 for that shipment I would be annoyed at minimum.
