2021-22 Panini Prizm Basketball Cards

Surprised there's no general thread about the product itself (only saw a FOTL-specific one).

What's everyone's opinions on the cards (aesthetics, print-run, draft class, etc)?

Personally, I'm excited for the product. I won't buy any hobby boxes but I'll pick-up any retail configurations I can at MSRP (scored some blasters via Target thanks to their anti-bot measures).

I don't particularly mind the increased print-run and actually like the draft class.

Although I didn't intend to rip any hobby boxes, I wish they added Color Blast and/or Manga inserts to the hobby configuration, I would've liked to pick up a single if priced reasonable (especially a Manga Stephen Curry).

terrible

Boldstar6 07-27-2022 03:14 PM

The base is a mild change from last years design

Zacy87 07-27-2022 05:27 PM

Anyone know what "value boxes" are? I know they're retail but can't find any info on them

Why?
The base is a mild change from last years design
Haha, the design rarely changes from year-to-year. With that said, I do like the look of this year's base slightly more than recent years.

I've seen the term being used (inconsistently) for various retail configurations.

For instance, WM has "value box" listings for blaster boxes AND cello pack boxes.

It's best to just read the description of the product to determine what you're actually looking at.

This is the description on the Walmart website lol. Sold by Walmart too so it isn't a 3rd party company
"21-22 PANINI PRIZM BASKETBALL VALUE BOX"

Design isn't half bad in physical form. I'm just not big on this year's class.

Haha, need more information to be able to determine what it is. I can't seem to find the URL via google.

Most likely, it's probably a blaster box (feel like I've seen them worded as such more often than cello pack boxes).

Ah, how do you rank the draft classes of the past 5 years?

PSA2Pac 07-27-2022 09:45 PM

Aesthetically (while similar every year) I liked last years design better. Also liked the draft class much more. I know blasters increased to $29.99 but was surprised to see them still available on Target.com hours after they dropped.

Actually been able to scoop up couple cheap numbered LaMelo Prizm cards at a fraction of what they were going for, crazy how much they’ve dropped

Singles prices are getting where they should be, box prices need to follow suit.

Probably blasters. If theyre $35 then definitely blasters.

IronCladLou 07-27-2022 10:08 PM

I sold my hobby box and ended up buying a heap of singles I really wanted.

Won't be getting any retail

umm.... 21-22 is his second year?

MNmoose78 07-28-2022 07:46 AM

What do you guys think about the Flashback Prizm autos in this years set? The gold’s from last years set go for pretty good money, are the gold autos going to be highly sought after also from this year or not so much because it’s the second year and only autos?

h00perstar34 07-28-2022 07:56 AM

Between yesterday and this am I ripped 23 blasters. I honestly think they’re way more fun of a rip than football and it isn’t even close.

What were your best hits?

imbluestreak23 07-28-2022 10:14 AM

2012 and 2013 were nice. Just holding/feeling that card stock it felt different and of higher quality.

Man the new stuff absolutely sucks. Would buy parallels but centering is worse than 86 Fleer

Walmart has the blasters for $34.98

yiguiri2002 07-28-2022 11:03 AM

Target already dropped them? Damn. Guess I'll check the stores next week.

yeah they were up for like half a day. I even got some orders in past 10am PST

TimBuckTwo 07-28-2022 11:22 AM

Love it !!

LovelyLlamas 07-28-2022 11:30 AM

A product released 2-3 months after the season is done and we still have photographs of Haliburton on the Kings and guys like Oubre on Golden State. They missed a prime opportunity to revamp the product like they did 2019-20 Hoops Premium…change the photography. Rookie action shots. Update the rosters. Even get guys like GPIII or Jose Alvarado in the set?

This set literally looks like it could have been released in July 2021 opposed to July 2022.

Was it blasters only? Or were there Megas and cellos?

Blasters only.

LovelyLlamas 07-28-2022 12:02 PM

The rookies are littered with vets which tells me that there were some drafted rookies that either went overseas or cut from their teams so they put in a bunch of retired players to fill the spots. Austin Reaves made the set but I think it’s just because a couple guys in the original checklist didn’t play in the league last year..My guess would be a guy like Khyri Thomas who had a great last month of 2020-21 for Houston got cut as he went overseas.

I’m sure most people don’t care about these things but it just makes the product seem so antiquated and sloppy. Not sure what I should expect at this point lol.
