Ebay Authenticity "Guarantee"
What a complete farce...I sold a raw Giannis Select Silver that didn't pass inspection. The card was an SGC 8 that I cracked out (fully disclosed in the listing) that had a surface scratch, again, fully disclosed and pictured. Between non payers, shill bidding, and now this buffoonery Ebay is really becoming a complete circus for sellers. Below is the listing for funsies:

F eBay
I feel your pain. Don't forget the 1099Ks |
Did they give a reason why it was returned? Was it because of the scratch? That really sucks.

Just a generic message about condition not matching and how i should be more careful to be honest about condition moving forward LOL. |
This "eBay authentic guarantee" has huge potential for comedy gold. Received 6 of these in mail last week and somewhat horrified at how much eBay must have spent on extra shipping/packaging only to delay delivery an extra 1-2 weeks.

ebay is good for finding cards, and.. well, that's pretty much it.

That does not matter to the authenticator. |

The listing also notes the card is autographed and a BGS graded 9.5 in the item specifics.
A good written description and photos help but having inaccurate specifics is likely the reason it failed the review. Should CSG factor in those listing specifics, that's a different topic. |
I'm surprised more card people don't work for ebay

It may be a lesson that you have to be more careful with those item specifics when copying from another listing. Even though it's painfully obvious there is no auto and it's not graded a BGS 9.5, I could see eBay not wanting to risk someone using that to return the item. And, I saw you put your IG handle in the item description. Ballsy! |
So do you get charged for this at all or does eBay eat up the shipping costs?
|
The buyer is pretty upset he was aware of the condition and still wants the card, I’m not entirely sure how everything works but I’m definitely eating the shipping to the Authenticator, it sounds like not only are they authenticating but doing some sort of grading procedure and then failing the card if it doesn’t meet some phantom criteria. Just one of many reasons to not sell there anymore, oh well.

Ebay is getting too involved. It's a joke we have to ship items to them before it gets sent to the buyer.
This is a big reason why I'm selling off more of my stuff. I liked Ebay back in the day when all we had to do was pay a seller's fee. |

always do your own item listing, NEVER copy someone elses using the "sell similar" button. if you're not careful and check all the listing sections, you will be carrying over wrong info. you see this all the time when people reuse the same title, which includes incorrect serial numbering.....too lazy to edit it to make it fit their own card. I always start my auctions from scratch and add my own info. may take longer, but I know its done right. |

Copying my own listings is how I list, i should work on not being so lazy right? Congrats on always doing it right, I aspire for that kind of greatness one day 😊. Just giving everyone a heads up that condition is also a determining factor so if you aren’t selling a gem mint raw card you better have videos/pics/sworn affidavits etc or it’s coming back to you. |

Easy bud, I think he was saying that people who copy and list with incorrect serial #'s are too lazy to edit their descriptions You made an honest mistake, you learn from it. Grab a green beer and let's all enjoy the day. |

You made an honest mistake, you learn from it. Grab a green beer and let's all enjoy the day.[/QUOTE] Yup my post wasn’t attacking him at all. But I’ve seen a lot of cards I wanted to purchase where the auction listings were copied from someone else’s using the sell similar feature, or selecting a poorly written one from the options that are suggested by eBay when you start a new listing. Regardless, the OP did something erroneous that possibly created the return trigger. I was just trying to explain that the best option is to start from scratch each listing, that way you have a clean template. I’d rather have blank fields not filled in than incorrectly carried over ones from previous listings. But, he can do as he chooses. No need to be snide OP. You made a mistake and it created a mess for you. We are trying to explain the best way for you to avoid it in the future. Good luck [emoji2369]. Oh and I wasn’t calling YOU lazy, just saying that I’ve seen a lot of people copy other peoples auctions verbatim and don’t change any of the info. That’s lazy and makes for confusing listings. Seems like you just copied your previous listing and just forgot to edit some fields. That happens, but can be avoided. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

They don't. The actual listing info is the most important part of any listing, arguably moreso than the pictures. |

Nobody knows how CSG is assessing whether the condition matches the description. |
