Las Vegas Athletics

Seems like it’s all but a done deal

I think it’s funny that the title of the article is “Las Vegas May Add Another Huge Sports Franchise”

I don’t think any MLB team is a huge franchise right now outside of the Yankees. With all the Californians leaving the state for Nevada these days it should be a good fit.

Would it be neat to see the big league team and their AAA team be 15-20 minutes driving distance away?

The decline of MLB is vastly overstated. The A's are towards the bottom, but still a billion dollar franchise. Add in the fact that it's 81 home games a year and it's a huge get.

mfw13 02-22-2022 04:15 PM

Much more likely to be an NBA team than the A's.....

ObanMontecristo 02-22-2022 04:22 PM

how much does Oakland hate the city of Las Vegas right now. Raiders and then the A’s… ouch

Raleigh504 02-22-2022 04:24 PM

I just want A's and Rays to get their stadiums set so then there could be another expansion for MLB to get to 32 teams

hxcmilkshake 02-22-2022 04:27 PM

Will Billy Beane be able to spend money now or is Vegas a "small market"

What? Last MLB team sold for $2.4 Billion and it wasn't the Yankees

The As are just making their way back across the country lol

This is basically the Red Sox and their AAA affiliate too.

SleepyWill 02-22-2022 04:42 PM

Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs . . . .

Although per this, the Dodgers equate to the same net worth as the Seahawks . . .

He had his chance early on to go to Boston, but was scared to go to a place where he would actually be held accountable for his miserable and prolonged postseason failures.

His legacy: Around 20 years, 1 postseason series win, 0 World Series championships.

Name one other GM who has had that level of utter futility in the postseason for that many years and still has his job. I'll wait . . .

There are numerous other GMs of "small market" teams with limited funds who have had far more postseason success than Beane, so that tired argument is not valid.

But please, White Knights of Chokeland, tell me all about "doing more with less", and "it's not all about postseason success and winning rings" (just ignore the fact that every single MLB owner, GM, manager, and player will tell you that winning rings is #1, money and/or fame is a distant #2).

They will boot the AAA team out of Vegas when that happens. There is some sort of rule that the parks have to be a certain number of miles apart. I'm not 100% sure what that number is, but I'd bet it's greater than a 15-20 minute drive.

Yeah, that was just a silly statement.

Actually most MLB teams have been trying to get their AAA affiliate closer to their big league club so players can be called up and be there ASAP if needed. Cincy has their AAA in Louisville, Cleveland has AAA Toledo, Royals have Omaha, Cubs have Iowa…

Astros as well. 23 miles....which in Houston mileage is like 2.5 miles in Boston.
23 miles ain't #@$! in Houston.

For optics I think it best that they wait until lockout ends, trade Olson, Montas and whoever else, then move here.
And an in town AAA affiliate is a fantastic idea for fan support continuity and being able to follow AAA guys from their beautiful outdoor park in Summerlin to the inevitable dark dome on the strip.

St Paul Saints and MN Twins 15 minutes by light rail.

Absolutely zero chance with the money spent on that AAA ball park.

Having the AAA team minutes away ( Let’s face it the A’s headquarters will be in Summerlin or south of Vegas next to the Raiders Headquarters) has been a selling point in the local Vegas market.

Why is it again that all the professional team are leaving Oakland? Something with the city not wanting to pay for the stadiums?

Thought that was in the richest zip codes in america. What's driving the moves
