Anyone attend the Schaumburg Show yesterday?

This show has grown significantly over the years. I set up once and it was just 10-15 tables. I would say there were at least 30 tables this time. I had a ton of fun and there was a good mixture of low-end and high-end cards unlike the large Rosemont shows that are cases of cards worth more than my house.

First Sunday of every month. If you're in the area, I'd recommend checking it out.

My goal was to get more inventory for my eBay store. Found several good deals, including these:

$1 - case hit

$3 - /25

Sweet pickups! Can't believe those were $1 and $3!

I live about an hour away. A friend and I have been discussing going to a show. There's the Oak Creek Wisconsin show the first Saturday every month and this one the first Sunday.

We'd been leaning toward Wisconsin, but maybe we'll give this one a try instead.

I think it's worth the drive.

There were probably 3 "professional" tables.
10-15 Regulars who are always there.
1 Regular who sells wax
A good amount of new tables. i.e. people without display cases, mostly younger, some with off-brand graded cards. Didn't really find much value at any of these tables as they were priced at eBay comps.

The friend I'll be going with actually lives pretty close. So once I told him he was completely on board. We'll def be at the next one.

I can't understand a person who'd look at that perez patch and say I'd rather have $3 than keep this card.

Where is the show? At the convention center?

It's at the Hyatt Regency on Golf. 1st Sunday of the month.

I remember going to the Rolling Meadows show back in the late 80s when it was around 70 tables. Used to be a great show back in the day.

I think the Orland Park show is still going and I have heard is around 40 tables each month. Might need to check it out again.

the oak creek, WI show is phenomenal, almost 100 tables.

the schaumburg show is growing......slowly, imho.

i'm probably going to check out rockford this saturday.

Rolling Meadows Holiday Inn is a spiritual geographic place of my childhood

I had no idea there was a show at the Hyatt Schaumburg, that’s awesome!

Does anyone know if Fred Kopp still does his little 20 table shows? Those have been a staple for a few decades (not that awesome of a staple but a staple nonetheless)

When I lived up there at that time, I regularly set up at the Rolling Meadows show and at Fred's Elk Grove Village Friday night show. I periodically set up at some of Fred's other shows. Those were great times, especially doing the pack wars at Fred's shows.

Having been to all of them, which would you say is best for Vintage HoF Baseball and / or 90's Jordan inserts?

Thanks.

oak creek

orland

schaumburg
(and, again, i'm not knocking schaumburg, i'm grateful that he runs it
to give us another local chicago option)

the other two are mobs and mobs of people/dealers/selection

I was a reg at the 90s holiday inn shows, even set up at a few (I was a teenager at the time )

Good memories

I went to a tiny show on Algonquin road in Schaumburg maybe 10 years ago . This sounds like an evolution of that maybe

Is the rosemont show next weekend already ?

Is it possible for me to submit cards for grading anywhere without paying 3 figures a card ? Sgc ?

Yup, Rosemont is already next weekend but not sure about the grading aspect.

Honestly, all these local shows have made me spend less money online. It’s no fun to go online and just buy a card. I like finding what I need at shows. Luckily this is possible in a big market.

Totally true. I'm definitely trying to make it a point to get out to more.

I might try tabling at a smaller show next year. Turn some cards into cash then use that cash to buy some cards from dealers at the show.

actionbryan 11-11-2021 08:15 AM

Self serving hijack of this thread since it’s probably getting local eye balls

I rip a decent amount of retail and like to build sets , if you to do, pm

Primarily baseball but all sports

I am in Rolling Meadows

I also have a wantlist post in bst

the guys at the rockford show are doing a real nice job.

parking lot packed with cars, very, very large space pretty packed
with customers.

"only" about 5-6 vintage dealers, but, for a 90 minute drive, i will
take what i can get.

keep up the good work !!

I’ve been setting up at the Rockford show!! Awesome time! Highly recommend if you have kids in the hobby. They do free kids breaks. Mostly optic football, select nba blasters, some Pokémon… My 9 year old daughter is hooked on cards now from attending the Rockford show.

beauspencer 11-15-2021 09:43 AM

The Rockford show on Saturday was great. I was also set up with my bargain boxes. Did a Youtube review on Sunday morning (it's a longer video).
