No PSA update- facing harsh reality
 

Looks like the grading options for this year look pretty bleak.. my CSG 9.5s are selling below PSA 9s I’m faced with SGC or …HGA..

Any word on BGS getting back on track?

I pretty much have written off value options with PSA UNTIL 2022 and your cards back 2023. I am SGC currently and doing well.

SGC is being pumped big time by a lot of the sports card youtube personalities. If you have to grade, it is not a bad choice. However, don't expect to take a $10 card and make it a $100 card with the $35 grading. I would suggest only grading cards that sell in the $150 to $200 range raw for SGC grading until prices come down.

So many people took base cards and submitted to CSG for cheap grading only to flip. eBay is littered with $1 raw cards that people wanted to make money on. I will buy CSG slabs, but only for cards I want and subgrades. The empty space on vintage CSG looks horrific without subgrades.

Totally agree with this however there are times when SGC beats psa, but rare. I sold an SGC 10 Ohtani yesterday and the same card sold for $25 less in psa 10. Rare, but it happens.

I have a lot of Ohtani I was waiting for PSA to get back to a reasonable price but not sure that would ever happen. I have a ton of Herberts Select Prizms that I’m not even sure I should get graded because of how many are out there.. may send the Ohtani, Tatis to SGC.. The $20 HGA with sub grades has my interest peaked for some modern Prizm silvers…

I don’t mean to be that guy but what did you expect when not getting subgrades?

Don’t BGS 9.5s without subgrades sell for the same or less then PSA 9s?

I personally love CSG, the label doesn’t bother me in fact the green accents pop less in person and are over exaggerated by a lot of people. The slab is crystal clear and feels great in hand.

All this being said tho CSG has been grading sports cards for what, 6 months now? They definitely are more of a long term hold until they establish themselves more and more slabs get out there.. I haven’t seen too many high end cards graded thru them either so that kinda sucks but I do have a 9 card submission in with them that’s all mid-end Baker Mayfield rookie stuff

What about raw? Nothing wrong with raw.

Given the wait times, only viable option for low end seems to be SGC. But you better be sure it’s a 10.

Send your Ohtani to SGC. BY THE time PSA open lower levels the season will be over and the hype around his hitting 50 bombs will have passed. More and more people, including myself are becoming comfortable with SGC. My next random, non-Ohtani, but low pop cards will be the tale of the tape.

Definitely what KD is saying and research the pop report for cards to send. It does make a difference. .

You nailed it again...... It almost seems like everybody has to grade even the cheapest cards......I grade my valuable PC cards so if something happens to me my kids will be able to liquidate them ( even though my wife might actually see how much I spend on cards) It just seems like today everybody needs a company to tell them how good their card is or there are just too many flippers and not enough collectors....That is OK leave the raw cards to me.

True, but when you can turn a $20 card into a $250 sold card grading for $30 I will take that everyday.

PSA is ripping through the backlog. People are getting Dec and Jan entered subs back. Probably about 5.5 months backlog left and they're probably going to want some backlog when they open fully. The backlog is back end heavy therefore I suspect they will have a value option in some form come January. I wouldn't be surprised if there's temporary limits and at the higher price point established in March. We shall see. I'm just going to hold and see what happens.

How will you address your stash if come January the only lower option they have is $100 per? There are lots of cards not worth sending at that price, especially with would could again be a one year wait. I like PSA but not that much.

SGC submission for cards over $100 raw value make sense for sure. For cards under $100 like example 2018 Bowman Ohtani paper SGC and CSG are worth the risk, but better be 10s.

PSA 10=$250-$300 (no level to send in to make it worth it)
PSA 9 =$100 (no level to send in to make it worth it)

[B]SCG 10=175-200[/B] worth it
SCG 9.5=$80/after grading fee $50 gross profit (card costs?) Maybe worth it?
SCG 9=$40/ after grading fee $10 gross profit (card costs?)

[B]CSG 10= over $250 Worth it[/B]
CSG 9.5 (no subs)=$70-$100 - $12/-22 grading fee=Maybe worth it?

I think PSA will be at the Houston Tristar show in Feb 2022, hoping value is open again so I can drop off a couple hundred cards.

Great breakdown.

In all honesty if you have to wait 1 year to get those lower value subs back the price still might not be worth it. Time is mommy. How much money has been lost waiting for PSA returns. Yes there are cards that have exploded while waiting on them, but if they are not in hand currently money lost. At the old rates money will be made for PSA 10 and 9. That will not be the case going forward. The cost of playing the game will push people toward other companies. I would rather a graded copy vs raw becasue returns are cut down to some degree.

Doesnt matter. Once PSA opens up a value level, they will be inadated with millions of cards people have been sitting on from recent products. Makes no sense to me how people can open a box of prizm, get 140 cards and submit all 140 for grading. These people ruined the ecosystem.

Ive hear of people sitting on 1000 cards ready for submissions one PSA gets a value service up. Its going to be just like March 2021 over again.

Yes so true. SCG not great ROI returns, but their Turnaround is great compared to everyone else.

CSG, way too much risk in 6-8 months of waiting, for that unicorn CSG 10.

Then it goes back to, prospects vs. GOATS/ HOFSTARS. Which at least a lower end <$100/ GOAT/HOF card of Tom brady/Jordan insert will be safe. But you can also just wait till PSA comes back since those cards are just blue chips anyway, graded in 2022 or 2023 probably does not matter for medium term sales futures.

Great breakdown, I was having trouble looking through stacks and try to figure out what to do.. definitely changes my whole system

I sold a Mac Jones SGC 9(!!!) for 150 yesterday
But overall I’ve been disappointed with SGC’s ROI (sorry Rev)

$100 per would absolutely not be a year wait. Id say 3 months max.

I doubt that. Where is express currently? The volume they will receive at even 100 will create a major backlog. I have already sent the cards to PSA that merited $200-$300 fees. I might have 100 that fit the $100 range. I pull d everything I have yet to grade from my 30 plus years in the hobby. SGC is becoming fine with me. I totally respect those who wait. No worries. Yes roi is lower, but I just sold a SGC 10 for around $25 more than the same card in PSA 10 so that could happen more.
