08/09 sp authentic retail red rookie autographs? Sp to how many?
 

Hi All,

Just wondering if any forum members had any information on these rare red rookie autos?

Here's one on ebay. I have seen Westbrook, Chalmers, Rose (but not lately).

What are they short printed to? Boxes are ~$70 each now.

I have been hearing 5 but here's one from another year. So this number might be correct.

The base RC's (so the Ajinca) are very easy to find in retail version - the RPA's are the ones that people say are out of only 5.

I did the complete hobby set and I found a ton of the retail versions of the regular RC Autos - they are everywhere - the hobby ones were harder to find for that portion of the set.

i think hes talking about the red version. Similar to the RPA red version instead of traditional patch.

I believe these are numbered to 10, because I've seen more than 5, unless a handful of the Westbrooks have changed hands many times....these are huge in value...I bought a Rose last year, had it graded and came back a BGS9.5....that card could easily fetch 1500.00 - 2000.00 as Westbrooks go for 700.00 + raw.....

I would agree with Bill. The print run of these cards is closer to 10 than 5. Still they are extremely rare and awesome looking cards.

yea from most evidence I've seen its problem 10, but no more than that. Wonder how many have actually been pulled. Seems with how rare it is, probably one of his best cards to try to get.

no its 5 i had a mayo and i even got confirmation from upper deck about it. the red ones do fetch a good dollar as some people are trying to complete the red set

Oh, good to know. Thought ud supposed to be really stingy with that info. I know last Rose on ebay the person was asking 2500, don't know if they got that though

If UD did confirm that there are only 5 of these, then they are even more rare than I thought!!! I would love to complete this set, but I rarely ever see one up for sale, and when I do, they go for huge amounts!!! Guess I got the big one out of the way with Rose!

There are more than 5 in my opinion. On Another board, it was stated that someone had 3 OJ Mayos and 3 more were listed on ebay as well. I think the number is between 10 and 20. Retail product only. Ironically if you see one sell for huge dollars, youll suddenly see a bunch pop up for sale on ebay.

OJ Mayo's Red Sp? I havent seem any for the past 2-3 months. I recently brought westbrook and beasley but have rarely seem these for sale. THere were a member selling another westbrook and im pretty sure the one recently put on ebay was his with similar sale price etc. Correct me if im wrong but i would love to get my hand on more on the set. Only person i have to wait off on is rose which as much as i like him, dishing out 2k for that card is just a little too much

Well the guy who had 3 may have been selling a couple on ebay. And I've never seen a bunch on ebay, in fact I think the Rose thats been on ebay the last few months I think is the same one being bought and sold again. If you look on upper deck site there are three levels of retail rookie autos. Each level probably has a different print run. With guys like Rose, Mayo, etc only to 5, and then others may be higher.

The only one i saw in the past 2-3 months on ebay were weaver and one other one (forgot his name) that were selling for pretty cheap. Other than that, just the rose/westbrook/beasley (i brought the beasley within like an hour of it being posted). The latest one is gordon. Thats about it.

OH almost forgot a bayless is currently on sale too

Yea, these things are rarely ever on ebay now.

I think most that were available are now in PC's and will stay under lock and key as is my Rose....my SPA retail BGS9.5 compliments my SPA auto patch 3clr BGS9.5 very nicely!

I agree about people probably going to hold on to them now.

I wasnt stating it as a fact. moreso as an observation based on what was seen earlier in the season. The 3 posted could have possibly been a seller putting it up for auction while listing another as a Best offer BIN which would essentially create 2 auctions at once. It was apart of a conversation being discussed on how people got to thinking it was numbered out of 5.

In 05-06 UD put out redemptions for a Red Foil Rc Parallel set /5. It was put into SPA and Ultimate. THey slowly started making their way out about a year later as people redeeemed these sets. Thats where the idea essentially started that they could possibly be out of /5. But those were serially stamped /5 in redfoil (Ultimate was hand numbered I think).

Unlike those redemptions for rc /5, the 08-09 were put into retail. Most people assume they are out of /5 because they follow the red foil lines of 05-06. Why wouldnt UD just number these as well if that was the case?

same thing with the skybox emerald autos.. the regular emerald are out of printrun of 10 and it seems like everyone assume the same for the autos

The last D Rose SP Red Retail Auto that was on ebay actually belonged to me. Sold it off ebay for a pretty penny...and this was well before the Rose price spikes.

I'm not sure about the exact print numbers either, but it's definitely one of the rarer roses out there. I'd put it in the same class as the precious metal gems green (minus the cult following)...around 10 or so. And we all know how much PMG greens go for, and those aren't even auto'd. Despite the fact I made good money off the flip off ebay, I regret letting it go :(

Do you mind me asking you how much you let it go for? I picked mine up last year for 290.00....I may be able to get a pretty penny for it now and much less later down the road, but I'm holding onto it...I'm a true Rose collector and will only sell if I absolutely have to. But I truly believe that his hard to find autos and cards like PMG's will always carry a premium!

1600. This was around 2 months ago. I actually purchased it for 999 back around mid-January before everyone was riding the D Rose hype train. SP Authentic 3 clr's /299 were selling for around 400 back then, so I thought even 1k for a red limited in the single digits was a steal at 999. Of course I'm no wizzard and can't predict the future, but the same card should go for quite a bit more now, especially since some people are trying to assemble that master set, while most simply just haven't seen that card before or knew it existed

Thanks for sharing...nice profit by the way!!!!! Not many cards (other than Rose and griffin) can turn a 600.00 profit in the same season. If D Rose continues to play at this level, I see his card values increasing steadily over the years....just my opinion.

Thank you kindly! haha You are correct, Griffin and Rose have been the two biggest cash cows in all of sports this year...I just wish I would have listened to my gut and stocked up on more Rose high end stuff at the turn of the year. But then again, if we could all go back in time and predict the future we'd all be rich, right? :)
