2010-2021 Hobby Box Recommendations?
 

I’m looking to build my collection and snag some awesome cards in the process. In the 2010-present span, any recommendations for the best hobby boxes i might want to get? Preferable the Topps ones. I’ve opened a few Series 1 & 2’s from this year, series 2 of 2020 which i was kind of disappointed in, and 2019 Update series. Obviously I’m ruling out anything 2011, and 2018-2019 because of the insane prices but what are some other ones where i can score some good value cards, rookie cards, hits, etc and at a decent price. I was thinking maybe 2015 Series 1 for Baez? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly if you’re buying for value, your best bet would be to purchase 2021 topps hobby boxes, hold them for five years, and hope one of the rookies pan out.

Any older box in today’s market will seriously cut into any chances of return.

2018 series 1 and 2019 update are still “reasonable”. That’s about it

So the boxes you buy, you’ll be opening for the Singles inside, correct?
If so…… why not just buy the cards?

This year was way overprinted. Just find a youtube video on series 1 print run and it feels like a punch to the gut. Close to 700,000 Copies of a card not including factory sets.

You think 2019 series 2 topps jumbo would be a better option at $900?

You can get a sealed case of 2021 series 2 for that price.

2021 Topps series 2 does not have enough potential. You have Alex Kirilloff and Hayes, who is going to only be a solid defender.

2019 series 2 has an extremely high ceiling with a print run on base at less than 240,000.

At the end of the day, there is no reason to open wax. 99% of the time you lose money and wish you bought the singles or kept them sealed. I learned this the hard way by opening countless boxes from 2009-2013. The best value you are going to get is a player break nowadays if you absolutely have the urge.

I have said it several times before, but I'll say it again. My empty 2011 Update hobby boxes (2), several hanger boxes, and some fat pack wrappers in my closet would be a lot more fun if they were sitting sealed in my closet instead!
