Home Run Leaderboard: Our Collecting Dollars are Paying Off!

Swap Soto in for Garcia, and this would be perfection. And maybe push Yordan into the picture, too...

Regardless, it’s quite impressive that all these young stars are playing up to the hype (not to mention their potential). Of course, home runs aren’t everything. But this makes for a nice little representation of how these young Vlad, Acuna, Tatis...all the way to Devers...are really taking over the game.

All that crazy spending over the past couple years may just have been worth it. Unless you poured your money into Gleyber. In which case, let’s hope for a huge bounce back.

2018 Topps Update and 2019 Topps Series 2, Thats all you need to know!!!!!!

kabrune2 06-02-2021 09:43 AM

I love seeing Garcia on the Leaderboard, was able to sell off every 2018 Bowman card I had for a nice unforeseen windfall, paid for at least 2 jumbo boxes I bought back then, never did pull an Ohtani Auto. No need to hoard 28 year olds in a breakout season.

RW3FAN 06-02-2021 10:19 AM

You left off Haniger with 14 HR's. ;-)
Just kidding, nobody cares about Haniger.

Seems like every year there’s a dozen threads extolling the same exact thing. “What a wonderful, unique time we’re all in!”, indeed.

Where are yesterday’s stars?

I Wonder who is going to be the 1st to 30 this year?
Soto.
PRetty sure he means Home Runs, Not age.

And of those 7 (soto being #7), how many reach the 30HR mark this year? I say 2.

Which two?

And what will hold the others back??? Injury? Slump?

Jeter, and Mo, and Miggy, and Pujols, and The Kid, and The Big Unit, and Ripken, and all the others are doing just fine.

I’m rooting for Vlad, but a healthy Tatis is probably the best bet.

To the person who said two of them will reach 30... I assume you mean by the all-star break. Because, the way things are going, it’s quite possible that multiple players will reach that mark by mid-July.

I’d guess at least 5 and possibly all 7.

5 of those guys hit 30.

The question is which two get to 50? My vote is Acuna and Vlad.

Injury, and Ohtani might not play enough (if he played 158 games as a hitter he would be my pick for HR Leader, He might be my favorite active player)

But, they all scare me other than soto to play 150 games this year, or 140 games this year.

You must be really scared then, because Soto can't miss many more games this year to play 150

If Tatis plays in every game from here on out he will play in 144 games. Not sure if he is playing tomorrow due to his new minor injury. I'm guessing he plays in around 125 -130 games, but could still lead the majors in homers

Soto will not play in 150 games as he can only miss two more.

I think Vlad will finish with the most HRs on the season, and I think everyone on this list will get to 30 or higher.

I love June 2nd projections. I hope you're right.

Rage 06-02-2021 10:06 PM

The most HR in a season by a Japanese player is 31 by Godzilla, would be cool to see Ohtani break that as he is on track to do.

codered 06-02-2021 10:17 PM

I look at the HR leader board and think two things;

1. With all the young stars it’s probably time for the MLB to try to market your stars, especially to the youth.

2. Clearly they haven’t marketed the game very well in North America the last 20 years, not one of those players first language is English. Looks like the game is growing better outside of the US

base set 06-02-2021 10:25 PM

I dunno, I think Home Runs are everything.

Tatis is fluent in English... not sure if he considers it his first or second language

Vladdy is fluent as well. Point I was making is the superstars are coming from outside the US. A ton of that has to due with MLB’s lack of marketing their stars. Who was the last marketing superstar? Griffey? Maybe Jeter?

Sorry to steer off on a tangent though haha
