Struggling to sell grail card... some advice
Hey guys - so I have a certain card that has appreciated greatly in value over the years, to the point where it is worth deep in the 5 figure range. It’s the centerpiece of my collection and the last card I’d want to sell. That said, I recently received a serious offer on it that would would essentially wipe out any CC debt, school loans, etc that we have.
Just curious if others have been in this position and what they did. I’m pretty sure I know what I SHOULD and likely will do but really just looking to commiserate here. Thanks |
Sell it

Sell, pay off debts, use remainder to buy sweet card to remember your lottery ticket card

Agree with all those above - sell
|
Sell it.

Cash out

Sell it and pay off all debts....it's a whole lot easier to save money once you are out of the hole. Then you can buy another one down the road...possibly for less :)
|
Sell it. You've got all the right reasons to.
|
At the end of the day, holding that card will not improve your quality of life. Massively improving your financial position will.
I really like byronscott4ever’s idea of selling, paying off debts, and keeping a little bit aside to buy a sweet card as a reminder. |
Kinda need to know what the card is really.
But selling and being debt free will lift a weight off your shoulders for sure. And yeah, if you can buy something else nice with upside long term you have done very well. |
I’m in a similar situation... I’ll be moving out if the country soon and I’d like to be able to do so comfortably and scoop up a home there. Right now I’m at the “okay” range... selling just my best card would put in the “I’m good” range... but it’s still so difficult to do. I wish you luck with your decision

I know what it's like to have credit card debt and collection agencies calling you every day. Plus, the interest rate is usually 20% per month and then the amount gets compounded.
Sell it - I would suggest a consignor if it's a very high-dollar value card. |
Sell, regardless of what the card is. Family is always greater than cardboard and paying off debt will help your family exponentially more than any card ever would.
|
FLIP IT.
|
Put the family on a Ramen diet and buy more cards.
|
No doubt 100% sell it. Your future self will thank you 10 times over. Imagine if this bubble bursts. And in 5 years that card is not worth nearly as much.
|
I just shipped off a consignment order today for two of my biggest cards. No idea what they will bring but 5 figures is expected each. Just can't pass up the opportunity. Didn't even look at them one last time before putting in the box.
|
Sell it.
Make sure you add at least signature confirmation. Pack it well too. |
Sell it.
Before you do though, take a picture of you holding it as a memory. You can always look back at the picture to remember it and how special it was, but you’ll also remember the great feeling you had after you sold it and became debt-free. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Sell it, and consider that it’s something you could reacquire one day.
|
I would do the thing that most improves my quality of life.
Kinda need to know what the card is really.

And yeah, if you can buy something else nice with upside long term you have done very well.
Kinda how I feel about it.. but first....... Is there any other way that you can pay these things all off by selling other stuff? The question I always ask myself before I sell something big is "Will I be able to get this card back in the future, and if not, is it something that I'll really miss?" But again, if selling this card is the only/best way to financial freedom, it's likely a good idea. |
So do you plan on not working ever again? You can't work to pay off your bills and keep the card? If the card is so important to you, like you claim, why are you in such a rush to sell. Is the card overpriced? If so, that's a great reason to sell. Did your car break down and you don't want to take on additional debt. That's a great reason to the sell card. To me this sounds like somebody else cares more about this card than you do. Nothing wrong with that, then sell it.

I think there are a lot of us out here with the same questions in this market. I have several cards I planned to hold for a long time but with prices what they are I've seriously considered selling. The thought of paying off my house and being debt free has a great ring to it. The hardest part is that one of them I know Ill never have a chance to own another one. Ive been leaning towards selling but its a hard decision to make for sure.
