What is a 2009-10 Topps Black Parallel Stephen Curry /50 currently worth? (Question)

I noticed the PSA 10 2009-10 Topps Gold Parallel Stephen Curry numbered to /2009 sold for $80,000. I think the buyer needs his head checked out, but it raises a few questions about the black /50:

1) What is it currently worth? The trim one sold for 37k, so what’s the value for a legit non-trimmed 2009 Curry Black /50?

2) What is the ceiling for The Black 50? I pulled one and pulled a gold refractor and I can honestly say the Black 50 was harder to pull.

There are 2 PSA’s (9 & 10)

There are 4 BGS ((2) 9’s, 4.5, and an 8.5)

3) In the long run, could the Topps Black 50 be worth more than the Gold Refractor /50? There are less of the Black (as far as current data shows)

Thanks for any feedback.

The black will never be more than the Gold Ref imo. There are not less of the black they have the same print run.

Never say never the /2009 sold for 80k.

and I was referring to copies on record that are out of the closet.

my goodness whatever its worth I would sell it now at these ridiculous prices you are talking about!

That’s my only problem, letting go of something I know will consistently go up in value.

More than I can afford, pal!

Financially speaking, it's only behind NT RPAs and Chrome Golds. Probably inline with the refractor if you could find the right buyer.

I think we want to be clear here...

We know there are two different golds:

2009 Topps Gold /2009
2009 Topps Chrome Gold Refractor /50

then, the card in question:

2009 Topps Black /50

I believe it was a Topps Gold /2009 PSA 10 that recently sold for $80,000 in a PWCC auction.

So the question is - will the Topps Black /50 ever be as valuable as a Topps Gold Refractor /50? I think it's an interesting question. The borders on the Topps paper set seems to be really condition sensitive, so the Black border may be tougher in a high grade than the Chrome Gold Refractor.

Here's the PSA breakdown of both:

2009-10 Topps Black /50 (3 graded)
1-7
1-9
1-10

2009-10 Topps Chrome Gold Refractor (8 graded)
1 - 7
1 - 8
4 - 9
2 -10

Great card but lol @ comparing it to the gold refractor.

I know they have the same print run but I opened 14 cases of jumbo the black is tougher to pull.

Ginger Ale 04-08-2021 03:40 PM

The black is a 330 card set and the chrome is 110.

A curry topps rookie /2009 sold for 80k? Wtf is this hobby coming too?

oldgoldy97 04-08-2021 07:49 PM

Tree fity.

I think the Black is less than the Gold Chrome but still worth a ton. I wonder what the Lebron Black Topps rookie /500 is worth vs. the chrome black /500? Could be an interesting comparison.

The Topps gold Lebron /99 vs. Topps chrome gold /50 would be an interesting discussion too but they rarely pop up to even evaluate.

My gut says if both are PSA 10 - they may be worth around the same, due to the Topps one being condition sensitive ... but the average Topps black is probably a grade lower than the chrome if I had to guess & this comparison would lead the chrome to be worth 50% - twice as much. (Total guess)

If the gold/2009 sold for $80k, then black/50 should sell for about $3.2 million in today's market.

patchgenie 04-08-2021 09:17 PM

about 3.5 million.

I’m just reporting on the industry news. The PSA 10 really did sell for 80k. Not sure why you would buy that, I would rather have a Gold /50 Raw or PSA/BGS 8 or lower, even if you’re flexing buying that card you still look like the guy at the gym wearing a Jordan jersey, and wearing Jordan’s while sucking at basketball.

It makes no sense buying that gold /2009 for 80k...

Right??

My point is that nothing makes sense in today’s market.

This new money will be stuck with heavy bags in the future.

1) What is it currently worth? The trim one sold for 37k, so what’s the value for a legit non-trimmed 2009 Curry Black /50?

ungraded I would say around $40-50k, in PSA 10 who knows.

2) What is the ceiling for The Black 50? I pulled one and pulled a gold refractor and I can honestly say the Black 50 was harder to pull.

The Gold refractor will always command a much higher prem over the black because people like shiny. The black are nice looking cards as i have a tim duncan but pale in comparisoin to the gold chrome refractors.

3) In the long run, could the Topps Black 50 be worth more than the Gold Refractor /50? There are less of the Black (as far as current data shows)

Same print run and people don't care about print run as much as they care about coolness and eye appeal. I would say the black would probably sell for 1/4th of the price of a gold refractor.

Ginger Ale 08-19-2021 11:31 AM

AT the National, I saw a PSA 10 Gold Chrome Curry /50 for 1 Million Dollars.

With that said, the Black PSA 10 could be around the 250k range.

If two parallels each numbered to 50 are randomly inserted into the same product and both parallels can be pulled from the same hobby/retail/jumbo packs, the odds of pulling the black or the gold of a specific player are the same. Neither one is tougher to pull.

The Gold set has 110 cards, the Black set has 333 cards.

The Gold & Black were 1 per jumbo box, there were 6 jumbo boxes per jumbo case.

There was no black or gold in retail.

With 223 more cards in the set, it was tougher to pull the black curry.

Are you sure about that?

Chrome was a smaller checklist than paper. I love how people dont know that or forget.
