Can't See the Market So Easily Anymore?
Like so many of you here, I've had a really good run with vintage the last couple months. Realized some big returns, also had a blast picking up some 90's inserts for my PC.
6 months ago it seemed so easy to see opportunities. 90s hadn't taken off yet and some of the older Kobe stuff was really undervalued. With vintage running up so much I find it a lot harder to figure out my next move. Naturally I can see the argument to go into modern stars that should have good playoff runs like Harden, KD etc. I can see the argument to go into Zion as well. Part of me is wondering if its actually in another sport like Baseball. I just can't see value in BB anymore like I could. Is anyone else having a hard time figuring out their next move? I'm thinking about consolidating into one mega card as well. |
My move is picking up global all-time greats in any sport. Picked up a Lewis Hamilton (Formula 1) RC for 750 couple weeks ago. There used to be a dozen or so on eBay. Now there's one or two. One just sold two days ago for 2500. But yeah, global all-time greats any sport. Hamilton has 7 world championships and is still driving l in his prime. crazy.

Baseball is dying hard

Not really. Baseball prospecting, though risky, is where the big money could be made. You could have bought Juan Soto Bowman chrome autos for $20 that are now $5,000+. It’s the only market where you can dig deep and find a lot of value. Hard to do that in the basketball and football markets. |

some of the big names from the non-big four sports are quite intriguing. tiger seems really high now but Tony hawk, cough***Muhammad Ali***, hulk hogan etc. |
Agree...now the card market seems getting more fluctuated than last year and ever.
|
I am picking up 60's and 70's players in NBA and NFL. I might start with hockey soon. You can find nice lots once in awhile on eBay of the older stuff. I can usually flip the single cards to cover the cost of the purchase and keep the cards I want. I still think older NBA/NFL has room to grow, especially the non-rookie cards.

This couldnt be more incorrect. The baseball market is climbing fast and has been for months. |
I just saw a psa 10 Reggie Jackson RC broke the 7 figure mark. baseball is doing just fine. though I would agree that as strong as baseball is doing the basketball market is king of the jungle.
|
Baseball is terrible. Look how many players are worth anything between 2002 and 2013.
Besides vintage and idiots throwing money at prospects that will be worthless. |

of course basketball is king rn. but to say baseball is failing is clearly incorrect |
Baseball is terrible. Look how many players are worth anything between 2002 and 2013.
Besides vintage and idiots throwing money at prospects that will be worthless.
you should probably hit up google or maybe take a look at ebay completed sales. the baseball market is crushing it right now. Its not as hot as the basketball market as hardly anything is but its certianly picking up steam fast and has been for a while. Also even if you were right about 2002-2013 being worthless (whcih youre not) its pretty bold to judge a market that includes cards from the last 100 years based on a 12 year span. |
The best of the best will find opportunities no matter what.

Besides vintage and idiots throwing money at prospects that will be worthless.
Pretty sure Mike Trout’s 2009 Bowman is the king and his 2011 rookies are doing pretty well. Obviously football and basketball rookies are instant impacts and that is why there stuff is priced that way. Baseball is harder because even the best players spend a couple of years in the minors. As far as the OP’s dilemma. I find myself in the same boat and I am focusing on completing lower end projects to get them out of the way and then I am buying stuff for me. If the market has a big correction in the future at least I will be holding cards that I can enjoy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Agree on Ali.
Half the fun is trying to predict the future. My advice would be to keep it simple. Isnt rocket surgery. And just because a card has doubled in value doesn't mean it's not still a great buy. I feel like I am driving the price of by myself on one specific card... and I'm ok with that. They have doubled what I started buying them at and im still picking up more. |
i think i still have some sealed alf packs somewhere. will byron prizm didn't even move after he just won:confused:
|
I still have a box of Topps New Kids on the Block wax that I hope blows up. Who wouldn’t want a Donny Wahlberg rookie card in PSA 10?
|
I'm stacking Jenna Jameson rcs like the degenerate fiend I am ;)
