I miss the days when no one bought opening day so I could break whenever I wanted to feel like a kid again

Raleigh504 11-24-2020 04:04 PM

I think they should continue to do what they did this year for opening day and have a few RC SPs inserted in there that will be in series 2.

Actually bought a few packs of these when I wouldn't even consider them.

notoriousrmb 11-24-2020 04:07 PM

Underrated break of the year.

reddragonthe 11-24-2020 05:15 PM

Red Foil set from 2020 Opening Day was my favorite weird quarantine set I decided to build.

ryanc576 11-24-2020 11:47 PM

True sign of the times when even OD is running $43 a box pre-sale. I used to love breaking a case of this each year, as it was a low-risk rip with a lot of fun SPs and parallels, and my kids always go crazy for the mascot autos. It's of course not shocking to me at all that the price went up, but I think I paid $499 for my 2020 OD case. $799 is one heck of a year-to-year markup.

Big League is now the product for that.

Heck I think Big League and Opening Day should merge together.......:)!

Anyone know what MSRP is for a hobby box?

Retail of this stuff is usually the better break

Uwfootball1 03-06-2021 08:12 PM

always liked this set, the opening day foils are a good look imo

fulltritty 03-06-2021 08:22 PM

Already pre-ordered 4 boxes. Would love to see if Target has the Reds again this year though and try and fight the bots online for some.

Laats years Big League had some of my favorite RC in it. I loved the look of the Luis Robert.

If i had one wish for hobby stuff, it was i wish the bowman cards had simpler designs like BL, with more paper autographs. I always worry my Chrome autos will bleed away, even if i keep them stored correctly.

$20-$25. This year $100. J/k. Probably $45-$50 is my guess.

I bought a box on ebay last year and thought I paid $25 but couldn't remember. Hoping I can get some this year at a reasonable price.

ThoseBackPages 03-06-2021 11:30 PM

good luck lol

I was told I could get whatever’s coming at the LCS for $40/box, so I’d assume BO and other retailers will have at $40-50 (probs $50 on release day, $40-45 a couple weeks later); in the past I think I paid like $22-25. Plan on opening all I can get, still should be a decent break albeit slightly tighter margins (but they were extremely massive prior)

Why is that?

reddragonthe 03-07-2021 01:00 AM
Why is that?
Same odds. Same cards. Cheaper price because everyone is surprised retail is as good as hobby so price per card is better. No one ACTUALLY pays attention or reads anymore. We just buy and buy and buy and are programmed to believe Hobby is better than retail.

You never know what may change year to year but last year Target exclusive red foils made it the most fun, I agree.

glassofwater 03-07-2021 02:14 AM

So no mega boxes? I Romberg walking to any target last year and buying all the mega boxes I wanted lol.

It’s cheaper; blaster packs the same as mega packs the same as hobby packs the same as the $1.00 gravity feed packs

I miss this as well....very underrated and had the one of the best ROI's at $400 a case. Pre sale sets covered the case price, everything else was gravy.....

Heritage delayed till 3-26 now. Kinda doubt Opening Day will be ready to open on Opening Day, which is always my favorite opening day for Opening Day.

cg5 03-08-2021 08:25 PM

Hopefully we see the checklist this week yet.

mfw13 03-08-2021 08:41 PM

Opening Day is a product that shouldn't exist.

It's basically flagship with a different logo. As such, it should simply be a flagship parallel.
