5 Year Hiatus
Good morning to all... crazy crazy times... I hope everyone is well.
Its been about 5-6 years since I was an active collector. I come back to find that Hobbykings is poof... no more(Not sure when that happened) and my photobucket account is gone with the wind... yes it's been a while... lol So is there a preferred free alternative to photobucket? |
RIP hobbykings!
Yes I believe the majority of people have moved to flickr |
Try instagram, see if you like the format.
|
I'm an IG guy - personally love it, it helps me promote and also build a reputation and be transparent to the entire community.
|
If you want to embed on forums like this one, I'd go with Flickr. Otherwise, Instagram seems to be the way to go. The only problem with Instagram is you can't really sort your photos.
|
You came back into the hobby at the right time. Prices are just stupid.........
|
Right time for selling older cards that have appreciated like crazy. Not the best time if wanting to buy the same cards. Still, it can be fun and deals can still be had.
Welcome back! Why is Instagram better for building a reputation and being transparent? |
If you have stuff to sell, it can make the higher prices on what you want easier to handle. Just look for cards you have that have taken huge jumps in price. Sell those to reinvest in what you want.
|
I like Flickr as well. Welcome back!

Welcome back!
I’m in a similar situation, returned a little over a year ago after 5 years away. Same story, photobucket album gone etc. Instagtam is a great way to document PCs and connect with others in the card community. It seems more and more hobbyists are moving to the platform. The layout is simple to use and upload from a smart phone app. |
Smug Mug for the win.
I have no idea if it has a free version I’ll pay $40 a year or whatever it costs for how damn easy and organized it is |

Pandemic/unemployment/sneakerheads/GaryVee/Investor Bois/20yearold & Soccer mom flippers playing retail roulette/shillers/shenanigans/trimmers (well, that's another subject)/just too much to list So much has changed since you were last in it. Stay positive and test negative. Buy singles..........best advice I can give on the day before Friday the 13th..... |
Coming back now after a 5-6 year hiatus is like a caveman waking up during the 1969 moon landing! Man, how times have changed.
So you probably remember when 2012, 2013 and 2014 Prizm were all but worthless; a lebron Chrome rookie Gem mint 9.5 was $500; kobe rookies could always be found for a couple few bucks a piece, even chromes could be found for a couple hundred; buying retail packs was for kids! I could go on and on... |
The only thing you can do if it's 2020 and you're not super rich and/or you do this as a business (so you're constantly selling, flipping, preparing for the correct taxes owed, etc...) is to pick a lane.
You can't collect everything. You can barely collect every sport (although most still try) Decide what you want to collect and collect that. Player, team, type of card, brand, etc... If not you'll start of interested and lose interest as you simply can't keep up. |
