When to leave negative feedback?

I picked up an Athony Davis Hyper Pink by winning at auction for $2. After paying and waiting for shipment, I received a message from the seller saying their account was hacked because they don't remember posting the card. The listing had photos of the front and back of the card. Do you give the seller the benefit of the doubt? Do you leave negative feedback?

How do you react to seller shenanigans and when do you feel negative feedback is warranted?

The seller gave a full refund. Came across okay in messages but I was dissapointed.

How do you feel about the entire ordeal?

If you're unsatisfied because you didn't get what you legitimately won and paid for, leave a neg.

If you're disappointed but not too worried because you got your money back, and you believe him, leave a neutral.

Personally, I'd leave a neg, saying something along the lines of ' Seller refunded payment and did not send item'. There's no emotion or suspicion in that, just a statement of fact.

If he really was hacked he can try to appeal the neg, otherwise it sounds like a lie.

-who is the seller?
-do they have a history of other FB related to issues such as this?
-was it auction / BiN?

if so - 100% neg.

3 negs / 1 neutral in past year with at least one other time like this

Cancelled item- gave full refund

I'd Neg him just for making up a BS lie like that

discodanman45 08-26-2020 12:42 AM

I bought a card for cheap and the seller asked if I would accept a refund because he made a mistake. I accepted and left no feedback. Honesty is important and so is owning up to mistakes. Making up a lie tells you the character of the seller. I vote for negative feedback.

Sellers other listings use the same background - he was not hacked.

So yes, leave a negative.

bmf 08-26-2020 01:49 AM

come on op, don’t fall for that obvious BS story. Negative all the way.

I just had an auction end and the buyer immediately requested to cancel. This was only a $10 card. I asked him why and got no response. You can’t leave a neg for a buyer (which is a HUGE problem that eBay refuses to address), but I can at least type a negative post into the feedback.

and if they report it, not only will it get removed, you will probably get a suspension (or worse)

Did not know this. eBay just keeps getting better and better.

that rule has been in place for many years, ever since they changed it so that buyers can't get negatives.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/feedback-policies/feedback-misuse-policy?id=5030

Any misuse of feedback is not allowed. Feedback comments should match the positive or negative rating that was given in both buyer and seller feedback. For example, a negative comment should not be left with a positive rating.

Activity that doesn't follow eBay policy could result in a range of actions including for example: administratively ending or canceling listings, hiding or demoting all listings from search results, lowering seller rating, buying or selling restrictions, and account suspension. All fees paid or payable in relation to listings or accounts on which we take any action will not be refunded or otherwise credited to your account.
