My Damian Lillard (rainbow) collection

Oldschool42's John Wall collection thread got me thinking I should create my own thread to showcase my Damian Lillard rainbows. I don't have nearly as many as he does of John Wall, but I'll be posting what I've got. If you've got no idea what I'm talking about, do yourself a favor and check out Oldschool42's thread here.

Many, if not all, of these will or have also been posted on my Instagram page, but hopefully this thread will serve as extra motivation to take photo's of my collection.

Gonna start this of with the biggest complete rainbow I have as of today, the 2017-18 Donruss Optic base rainbow.

28 cards in total, including three 1/1s. Couple of the last ones I needed to complete this rainbow I picked up right here on the forums.

Below are a couple of others I've already posted in various other threads on the forums before.

2017-18 Panini Spectra - This one is incomplete.
I'm missing the Nebula 1/1, don't think I've ever seen it.

Another Spectra and one that is actually complete. I know not a lot of people like Spectra, though that seems to have changed a little this year, but I really like this one.
Also picked up some of these from BO members.

That's gonna do it for now, more updates to follow!

CaliCollector87 08-05-2020 04:16 AM

Damn, didn't know there were that many different variations of optic. nice collection!

mavsfan 08-05-2020 04:16 AM

As someone who is getting back to the hobby after years out of the game, and someone who absolutely loves Dame this was the perfect first thread for me to click on! Awesome collection dude, so many pretty cards!

RadicalAlmond 08-05-2020 04:58 AM

It's Dame Time

volblorx8634 08-05-2020 09:25 AM

Goodness gracious, impressive work. Great job, im always super impressed with these multiple rainbows, and when one of them is 28 cards? Must be crazy chase!

After completing such a large rainbow, do you anticipate going after more 20+ card rainbows moving forward?

Thanks! The amount of parallels for Optic has even increased since 2017-18.
2018-19 had 31 cards total and this year it’s up to 37.

Thanks! It's my biggest complete rainbow, but not the most parallels I have of one card. I'm at 36/37 for the 2018-19 Prizm Rainbow and 39/41 for the 2019-20 Prizm Rainbow. It does keep getting harder each year as Panini adds not just more parallels, but also more low numbered parallels. Optic is up to four 1/1s now and Prizm moved up from two to three this year.

TLDR: Yes. :)

Dame might be the most underrated player in the league. Spending his prime years out of the spotlight in a small market is unfortunate, but he's also as fun to watch as just about any star player. Hope he gets a chance to compete for a title before his wheels start to slow down.

Kquinn 08-05-2020 10:54 AM

This is so cool. How did you go about getting the three 1/1 in the optic set? Were you actively looking or just came across them? Was it a buy at any cost thing or did you have a budget in mind before?

2010GBPackers 08-05-2020 12:03 PM

Unbelievable rainbows! Especially the '17 Optic. I agree with one of the posters above - he is underrated and for my money has an outside chance at the HOF.

The Gold Vinyl was the first one I got. Acquired that relatively soon after I got back into the hobby in 2018. After that I’ve been actively searching for them as I do with any card in a rainbow I’m chasing. There’s definitely a budget involved, I’m not rich by any stretch of the imagination, I also don’t invest, I just collect Damian Lillard cards. Luckily I was able to get the other two at a price I was comfortable paying.

I did miss out on the Fast Break Black first time around though. Got sold on eBay for a BIN before I had even seen the listing. Found it a good while later through completed items and through the seller I got into contact with the buyer and I was able to buy it of him. He had send it to PSA though to flip the card. Sadly it came back a PSA10 so I had to pay a lot more than the initial BIN but we were able to agree on a fair price.

There are plenty of cards I missed out on though because I have to stick to my budget. A fellow BO member offered me a 2015-16 Revolution Galactic for $100 at the start of 2019 I believe and I passed. It was the correct decision for me at the time for budgetary reasons, but I still regret that. Not because it is now a $750+ card and I could've made a killing, but because I’ll never be able to complete that rainbow anymore. That Galactic along with the 2017-18 Lava /10 are the only two Revolution base parallels I’m missing. I have hope I’ll find the 2017-18 Lava some day, but the 2015-16 Galactic, that ship has sailed.

You win!!!!! Love the rainbows!

Another update. The 2018 & 2019 Panini The National VIP rainbows.
Not a lot of people like these, as they're not a real release, but I like the quality of the cards and they're very affordable.

Especially the 2019 has a nice variety of parallels that use tech from various products.

2019 Panini The National VIP rainbow
The RWB and Tiger Stripe were confirmed by Panini to be /10, as is the Gold obviously. The Green Pulsar is /5 and the Gold Vinyl is a 1/1.

Thanks for the shout out on my John Wall collection. Those National VIP rainbows are incredible...these type of cards get no love in our hobby an I’m not sure why.
You’ve picked a great player to PC.
As a fellow rainbow chaser I appreciate how much time, money, and effort it takes to complete one rainbow. Let see more!

ninjacookies 08-06-2020 06:40 PM

Oh yeah. This thread got my blood pumpin.

kingofsnake 08-06-2020 06:53 PM

Very nice rainbows, BartvH. He's a stand up guy and finally getting the recognition he deserves.

volblorx8634 08-06-2020 07:08 PM

That 2018 design is NICE!

Crazy how they go from 7 parallels to 12 in a single year

Braswell10 08-06-2020 07:14 PM

What do you do to get your pictures so crisp? When I try to take ones of a bunch of cards together, the quality isn’t the best or there is a glare.

siebertb 08-06-2020 07:28 PM

Good job, Bart. I'm updating a Rainbow thread tonight, I have a same I'll cross post here

Haha thanks, but please refrain from using any variation of the word “pump” in a Damian Lillard thread. It’s hard enough trying to complete these rainbows as it is. :)

I take the top of the one touch to reduce the glare. Other than that it’s just natural light and an iPhone 6 with the office lens app.

Just saw that. That’s an incredible project. Best of luck! Nice to see you’ve got the Dame completed already!

Those are very unique cards, great rainbows. That Nike patch is nasty.

cowboyzqna 08-08-2020 04:13 AM

Goodness! Love the collections. I am actually in the process of trying to find a nice card of Dame to pc once I get everything taken care of that I need to. Portland is my favorite city in the states. I know alott of people don't care for it but I loved it there. From the hood to the wilderness is just a max trip away lol.

You gotta get that revolution... if I come across one I got you.

Thanks, don't have a lot of patch cards but happy I picked that one up.

2017-18 Panini Ascension rainbow

Was offered the 1/1 by a member on the forums so decided to go for the rainbow.
The next rarest card begin a /25 luckily made this a pretty easy one to complete.
