Ultimate Fallout #4..... Modern Comic Gold or Bubble?
Hey Guys!
Phanos here! It's been a long time since I posted anything. I have been sick with covid-19 along with seeing to relatives that contracted the virus as well. I am doing better now and not so busy with family, so that gave me some time to talk about the latest hot topic. As you guys know... The first appearance of Miles Morales has blown up to epic prices! But it has led me to wonder... Is this inflated by just hot news? New movie sequel, video game appearance? And once all of this hype dies down.... the price dies down as well??? I think about my priced possessions... FF #49 7.0 signed by Stan Lee... IH 181 7.0... And to think that this book is on that level at 9.8? $3k??? For a modern? Now don't get me wrong guys... I LOVE this character! I think he is a great addition to the spiderman mythos.. But is a modern first appearance ever comparable to a silver or gold age blue chip key? I think not in my opinion and that this bubble will burst soon... Just like Immortal Hulk, Punchline and Major X.. But, I want to hear my fellow junkies thoughts and opinions.. please share. I look forward to having a good talk about this... In closing... I saw someone post 60 9.8 slabs of this book... :-( I think sellers are having a field day.. Well wishes on a speedy recovery!!!

Inflated by the hype but worth talking about and most likely has some of the best staying power in terms of the character and future pricing.
Consider that this character already is a part of mainstream pop culture by way of an animated oscar winning movie in addition to another film in production AND a PS5 game on the way. Miles has lots of legs to keep on running and is more then likely going to be the next major A star in Marvel. There's no reason to think he won't pop up in the MCU either which would only expand his popularity. In terms of print run, look at ASM300 and NM98. Yes UF4 is more common in a 9.8 but there's tons of copies of both of the previously mentioned books and its not like IH181 is rare either. Most grail books from the common collector are not rare by any means. Neither is a big book like AF15. ASM300 is a modern/copper grail for many collectors. On a lesser scale, so is NM98. Miles has more future pop culture appeal to a more diverse set of collectors then both Venom and Deadpool. Kids are growing up today with Miles as their Spiderman. That says plenty to the future growth for this character which in turn lends great credibility to his comic 1st app. There is absolutely no comparison of Miles Morales to a character like Major X, Immortal Hulk or Punchline as none of these characters have found major success or even been featured in the same amount of comic books. |
i'd be selling if i was holding... in fact meaning to dig out my 2nd print. i think it's a great character but not really rare enough to keep climbing like it has. idk i've been wrong plenty before. pp will always be "the" spider-man for me (great power=great responsibility etc) kudos to those who stocked up tho.
$.02 |
also sincerely hope you have a 100% recovery and soon.
|
Thanks for the well wishes guys! I would be selling now also.
|
Gold. In 5 years these prices will look like a steal.
|
Yes, GOLD!
How it took this long to get to this level is beyond me. A MAJOR Marvel property that is only now reaching the levels of Harley Quinn, Laura Kinney (X-23), etc. Miles is the generational spider-man and we've only seen a tip of the iceberg |

$.02
there are so many. I amassed way too many by accident. |

And that's my point. $3k for a 9.8 and people have amassed so many? I don't see people posting 60 IH 181's graded 9.8 like this... |
Not a bubble. This character is AWESOME and is SPIDER-MAN!
Maybe the ceiling has been reached for UF4 1st print (I doubt it).l, but not for everything else. I believe. |

IH181 is almost 40 years old but CGC has ready graded 10k copies of this book also so it's not like that book is rare either with 3K being a 7.0ish copy. |

Guaranteed print run on IH 181 surpasses UF4. They printed GOBS of comics back in the day. 1st print UF4 im hearing at 70K~. I'll take high demand with a "high" print run on something like this all day long. It's a true indicator of the demand rather than something that is short in supply and price is jacked up simply because you cant get it. Since this is a sports board as well, how many wish they would have gotten in on Mike Trout when he started to get hot? I know I wish I did |
Other keys I get in on now are
Edge of Spider-Verse #2 Edge of Spider-Verse #5 Spider-Man Noir #1 Spider-Man 2099 #1 The Amazing Spider-Man #365 A virtual goldmine of keys to be had. |

The problem with these numbers is Hulk 181 is the highest “crack & resub” book in cgc history with no one turning in the labels the first decade. Then there are the number of MVS That are missing in the 181s. Simple solution is just get both books! :D |

Simple solution is just get both books! :D
Absolutely on the crack and repress numbers making the census a bit overinflated. I see way too many people quick to point out modern printing numbers of 50-100k acting as if that is a supremely high number when a lot of books deemed as "grails" by most collectors had just as high if not a much higher print run. I've been saying this a lot lately but collect what you love. Too many people out here being super negative on UF4 and the character Miles instead of just enjoying the show. |

Afew years ago when Five Below was actually getting Hot Wheels in stock I would go in routinely and also casually check the bagged up comic bundles. Typically junk or stuff I already had, but I found one with a Secret Wars issue I needed from one of the mini series I was trying to get the full run of. When I got home and opened it there was a squirrel girl reprint on the bottom...but the middle issue caught my eye. Cool cover with Spidey, never heard of ultimate fallout though. I read it that night and it dawned on me that this was the first Michael Morales appearance!!! After researching I found out that I not only pulled this FA for about 1.50...it was the rare Durdjevic variant cover. So, I did what any guy with a comic room would do - put it in a case on the wall with all the other books I had that were worth at least afew bucks...funny looking up this now maybe I should have gotten this graded, would have paid a lot of my federal taxes this year.

Wish I jumped in on this 6 mo ago. My friend was telling me about it, but I thought it was overpriced. It's crazy how much a CGC 9.8 and even 9.6 has appreciated since then. Even Ultimate Spiderman #1 (2nd Miles appearance) is commanding big money. I have issues 1 and 2 in my bin, but they're pretty beat up, probably a 7.0 at best.

That Ultimate Comics #1 1:15 Pichelli is the one to grab. 2nd appearance of Miles and his Origin. That book is a GHOST. |

Wouldn't the 1:30 Pichelli (Dark Blue Masked version) variant be the harder one to find in theory? Also a note that CGC doesn't list, #1 is also the first appearances of his mom (Rio), dad (Jefferson) & uncle (Aaron --> Prowler). Seeing how many folks went crazy for the birth of his sister a few months ago. Might want to grab that one if you want to lock-down the whole fam. |

I feel like that image is burned into my mind as Miles. |

I had heard multiple people pulling this book in 5 below packs when it was under a hundred bucks. Knowing that this was a modern book being pulled in $5 mystery bags made me never want to pay the 100-200 I saw for graded copies. Boy was that a mistake. |
hey guys, I am not much a comic guy anymore but I do have a 1st print Edge of Spider-Verse 2 and a 1st print UF4 still sealed. If I was going to move one which would you guys suggest? They are ungraded. Thanks for the help

I'd say Edge, just because you have a sealed UF4, plus it might have more upside, long-term. I think a nice sealed UF4 could someday be more valuable than a 9.8..? What do y'all think?? I was thinking as people remove them to slab, it'll get increasingly difficult to find a nice, still sealed copy. :coffee: |
