Grading expectations for cards from Topps with seals.
 

I purchased 2 Vladimir Guerrero NNO cards on ebay in January. The pictures in the listing showed the 2 cards in toploaders with the Topps seal on them, indicating that they were replacement cards from Topps. The cards were delivered with the same seals.

I submitted the cards to PSA, and they came back with grades of 6 and 8.

How likely is it that replacement cards from Topps would grade so low? Is it more likely the seals were bogus.

The Topps seal can come off and be replaced pretty easy. It doesn't mean anything

I do think it would be cool if Topps started using a tamper proof seal on redemptions. Like that one guy.

Yeah that is what I figured. Shame on me.

Have you got the cards back? Would love to see what they look like. Care to show us the ungraded version? This particular card is known to have corner issues but to see a 6 or 8 would mean there would be a noticable flaw.

Would the seal command a premium in this case? MIsterbits and LVDan are right the sticker can easily be removed and replaced but I would never assume a card coming from Topps to be mint. In fact, if it was only in a top loader and not a one-touch, were they even sleeved? I'm pretty sure I've seen unsleeved cards in top loaders with Topps stickers seals. Just a surface scratch alone could put at an 8.

The funny thing is that the pictures of the listing are no longer available. ebay customer service said the listing was removed because there was something improper about it, which makes no sense because I had already purchased the cards. I didn't notice any issues with the corners, but i didn't look close because of the seal.

I am waiting for the cards to come back from Jewcer. They should be here tomorrow and I will post then.

So, you sent cards in to get graded without prepping (or at least looking at them closely first?). Sigh, you deserve those grades! lol
