Could UD make another Fleer Retro release?
 

Just wondering.

I miss these releases from Upper Deck.

Who do you think they would put in the release?


Seems like there are definitely a handful of 90's inserts they haven't redone yet...Dunk 'Go Nuts, Hot Shots, '98 Credentials

Man I wish. They got so much crap for making them back then. It's turned into gold now.

They could but Panini has a bunch of exclusives with some the college teams and/or conferences. It would end up looking more like a Leaf product with the blank jerseys and no team names or logos.

I say that take the Goodwins approach.

There's about to be some MJ 2020 Goodwin cards featuring him in the 94 Pippen Charity game uniform. Might be some footage of other dudes doing cool stuff like that.

UD should really make a Space Jam 2 set.

Couldn’t they essentially make a Space Jam 1 & 2 set? Throw Jordan in there for big money.

I think they already did that, but not in basketball products, in marvel comic cards.

Space Jam 2 would be awesome! And after that maybe do a product like 2020-21 Nike Family Exquisite! Put together a special pickup game, take some action shots, gather all the event worn jerseys and shoes, etc.

Or even better, what if UD produces a set that features red and green Zion/Ja PMG’s?

The collecting world would lose their minds. You can also include 2nd years Luka/Trae. Doesn’t matter if they can’t feature them in NBA uniforms. The Giannis PMG is already up there in price comparable to the top Panini sets.

You could also throw Jordan/Lebron/Simmons in the set too.

This is an AMAZING idea. I would, unfortunately, buy the crap out of this.

This would be amazing, but what we will probably get instead is another set of cards on giant slabs of wood.

Could they release anything using big3 players? A couple good names and at least they’d be in a non airbrushed uni - I have done zero hw on any deals they have with any company, just an idea that would/could work with the retro theme

Parkside already makes Big3 cards - not sure how long they have the rights for. I was really hoping we'd get a Topps Chrome for Big 3.

As much as I like the idea for a Space Jam set, what is UD's limitation when featuring guys like Klay and AD? Specifically AD, [URL="https://www.beckett.com/news/panini-signs-no-1-pick-anthony-davis-to-exclusive/"]as far as I know he has an exclusive card deal with Panini.[/URL] I'm no lawyer and I'm not privy to the details of his contract, but I would assume he can't be in any trading card, even if not directly basketball-related?

They cant make trading cards of 99% of the current or former NBA players. Its exactly why they made those large wood pieces.

I think it would be cool to do a HOF set. I am unsure if Panini has the HOF exclusive but can you imagine Jordan and so many other players autos together in one set??!?!?!?! EPIC! Of course it would have to be made after Kukoc is inducted. Hey if Dino Radja can so can Toni!

Could Panini ever buy the rights to Fleer and it’s copyrights since Upper Deck seems like it won’t be able to reaquire NBA rights any time soon?

1996/97 Precious Metal Gems (Red, Blue, Green, and Purple 1/1s)

1998/99 Molten Metal Fusion Titanium (Gold #/25, Silvers #/100)


Other inserts:

1996/97 Flair Hot Shots
1995/96 Hot Numbers 3-D
1997/98 Metal Universe Titanium
1992/93 Fleer Total D
1998/99 E-X Dunk N Go Nuts (Gold version #/10)
1998/99 Hoops Slam Bams
1998/99 Skybox 3-Ds
1998/99 Metal Linchpins
1995/96 Natural Born Thrillers
1998/99 Fleer Electrifying


Another big draw would be the addition of guys like Ben Simmons and Luka Doncic to the chase sets, as well as Jordan & Lebron Autographs.

Upper Deck still relies on Fleer's brand legacy for other sports, like hockey. They even produce PMGs for comic book characters.

Nice selection there. Football retro had electrifying and marvel had the quick strike. I’ll add 1999-00 Fleer Game Breakers, 1999-00 Skybox Apex cutting edge warp tech, 1998-99 Skybox Premium That’s Jam, 1997-98 Skybox Premium Thunder and lightning. I doubt dunk n go nuts could be done bc fleer originally got sued by Dunkin’ Donuts for doing that, which made no sense. That most likely helped the company. It may not be bad for the Leaf brand to do and and not use team logos. This could be a better hit than the college uniforms.
