Larry Legend. Better than MJ, Kobe or LeBron?

We always compare Jordan, Kobe and Lebron.

Am I the only one who thinks Larry Bird should be in the mix for GOAT?

Maybe you and Bill Simmons.

I'm a celtics fan but I agree. Bird had a 3 year span that was better than anyone in the history of basketball.

huehuehue true story.

The 'better than MJ' clickbait tagline got me, Opie.

Well done.

For his decade run I’d take Bird over Kobe and Lebron. Of course those two are playing for 20 years to Birds 12 so that makes it lopsided. They have more value then.

I wouldn’t call Bird goat but top 5 to me

Wings 05-03-2020 11:16 PM

I'd put him above Kobe and below LBJ and MJ.

Not even top 5. Not even the best Celtic of all time.

k13 05-04-2020 12:16 AM

Better passer and rebounder than MJ/Kobe.
Probably more efficient than all of them.

Too short of a peak.

chuckerrrr 05-04-2020 12:51 AM

Easily the White Goat! Def Too 5 all time in my opinion along with MJ, Kobe, Lebron, Wilt.

There's always gonna be players who take a back seat to others in the GOAT discussion, not because they were any less talented but because they were too much of a team player and don't go hard after individual stats, records, and accolades.

drobfan8 05-04-2020 12:58 AM

I'd like to see how Larry Bird would go in the modern era, but if he was born the same year as Kobe.

It would be incredible to watch.

Probably the GOAT pure shooter though.

Yes, better than Reggie, Ray, and Steph (close though).

If he trained like how they train now from 3 and beyond 26 feet, it would have been ridiculous.

6celtics33 05-04-2020 01:13 AM

Mchale said he didn't even practice 3s. I assume he would if he was shooting 7 or 8 per game in today's league.

I can't imagine him doing the dribble in the ground pick and roll offense through him but if he was in a San Antonio or Golden State type move without the ball flow I could easily see 32-11-8 type numbers. Crazy as that sounds, that's barely more than Luka at age 20. He might smash my estimate.

PejaD 05-04-2020 01:14 AM

What active player's game is most similar to Bird's? A longer Steph Curry? A smaller, less athletic Kevin Durant?

tjforce 05-04-2020 01:18 AM

I have a lot of respect for Larry, and he's either in my top 5 or very close to it.....

That being said, there's a clear gap between Bird and MJ/LeBron. In career peak and in overall resume.

Other than those two, I think you could make a fair argument that he holds his own with anyone.

I know Bill has the 11 rings but Larry has gotta be higher in the conversation for me.
Not MJ or LBJ level but easy top 10 and borderline top 5.

That's where I consider him too
