Galactics are overrated
 

Slow day at work, so I figured I'd make a post that can go back and forth.

I purchased my first Galactic (Lou Will) a month or so ago from COMC and received it recently. Factoring in the cost compared to the other cheaper parallels, I'd personally rather have a Cosmic or Cubic than the Galactic. It's a solid parallel but is much too expensive for what it is IMO. I know they are case hits, but....they just don't do it for me.

This is the first time I've thought "Wow, this parallel looks better in an iPhone picture than in hand."

Anyone feel similar?

I think they're really nice, but there are plenty of nicer cards.

I like Galactics, but in the football equivalent of Revolution, Unparalleled, they have a Fireworks /5 and I actually think those look the best. I wish they would bring those to Revolution.

Edit: In all seriousness, put it in different lighting. Sometimes galactics dont pop in the wrong conditions.

In all honesty, I would rather read discussions about what cards we think are over/underrated than post after post about "action photography" and 40 year old men unironically saying "poopanini" so despite being a loyal member of the #Galacticboyz I'm cool with this.

I like sports cards. And MJ>LBJ.

I've said this exact thing in multiple Galactic/Revolution threads. While i love the idea of the Galactic case hit and own and have owned many. I find both the Cubic and Sunburst to be much better looking parallels. From a straight aesthetic perspective the Galactics are behind others for me. But i get the rarity argument - i love case hits and SSP chases.

I feel the opposite. I mean... I love Galactics, so there’s that, but still images don’t even remotely do these justice. The color and shine is unmatched. I used to think, “what’s the big deal?” Then I got one in hand and was hooked. I don’t see how anyone who’s a fan of the wild 90s stuff can’t like these, but if a more tame design is your thing, then I get it. I personally love Finest and the Finest inserts, so these are right up my alley. I’d suggest trying different lighting. The same card looks way different depending on angle and lighting. It’s a sight to behold.

In a hobby that worships ugly ass Prizm and player worn NT RPA that look the same every year, these stand out and actually look cool. They’re not for everybody, but every year the cult following grows. I can’t afford nearly as many as I’d like anymore.

I use a Pixel, but some people's photography/apps make the Galactics look insanely nice. I half expected that when I received mine but was thoroughly disappointed. It does look better in my new Z-Folio binder than in a toploader though.

Glad we can disagree like civil gentlemen. I'm starting to wonder if I don't like the Galactic as much because my grandparents wouldn't let me use kaleidoscopes as a kid...something about it being the devil's toy.

I saw 3 Galatics come out of a case yesterday of 2019 Revolution. I dont think they are as rare as people make them out to be. I think they spelled Galactic wrong on them as well.

That's a really good point. I'm not huge on the crazy 90s inserts (Dunkin Donuts looks terrible to me.) I prefer cards with patches, artsy, or extremely simple cards. Love me some shiny black 1/1s too.

I heard 18-19 isn't one of the better ones, maybe you should try 15-16?

Depends on what you mean by rare. Print runs are roughly 8-20 depending on the particular card. 3 in a case is an anomaly.

Are Galactics overrated or are the other parallels underrated?

Revolution overall is the best looking product that panini puts out. Galactics are beautiful but I agree that some of the other parallels are nicer. I love the look of the impacts.

My issue with Galactics is what happens if/when Uncut Sheets come into circulation and you can't verify a sheet cut copy from a pack-pulled?

I do think print run starting last year is around 25 instead of 12ish in past years.

And yup the Vortex, Supernova and Liftoffs are "GALATIC"s this year.
