2019 Topps Chrome Sapphire

This release is obviously quite a bit away, and I don’t think we even heard anything about it until October last year.

Is there any chance that Topps would release the set after Update and Update Chrome, and include those cards in Sapphire? It would allow them to create a monster set and increase production. It’s a shame that certain key rookies didn’t get a Sapphire card last year. Soto, Meadows, Soroka, Bieber, amongst others.

Just a thought :D

How is this set distributed? What does it cost?

Imagine a 2018 Soto Sapphire in the same pose as his 2018 TU/TCU. It would have been his best non-auto Rookie card imo.

anusinha 05-26-2019 11:49 AM

i going to be spending my entire monthly allotment on sapphire this year, not expecting it to massively jump like last year, but its a great break at SRP when you buy direct.

cj828282 05-26-2019 11:54 AM

I prefer the box form like last year rather than the complete set that was sold in 2016 and 2017. I really thought Topps would include update into the product last year since it hit so late in the year. Maybe they will do it this year in response to the exorbitant prices for hobby Update.

2016: Factory Set, $1500
2017: Factory Set, $1500
2018: "Topps Traded" sized "boxes", with guaranteed yadda yadda yadda, cannot recall SRP

Direct through Topps.com. It was $200 last year for 100 base cards, 3 parallels (red /10 or super /1, with super 1:4 boxes), and 3 autos (unnumbered blue, green /50, orange /25, super /1).

Cheapest box now is $800. I hope Topps keeps the price down but I am sure if Vlad is in it it could be more north than what we would like.

Some may not realize, but people balked at paying $200 a box for this stuff. It took some time (a week plus) to sell out. Box prices were under $300 on eBay until the Acuna started to skyrocket. I remember looking to pick up some to bust, but didn’t want to pay $400 for them. Oops.

and the first two years of sets made it to Black Friday sales on Topps.com (which lead to the new format in 2018 i suppose)

anusinha 05-26-2019 01:08 PM

Acuna pretty much saved the release last year, plus the box format is more appealing than the set format. Hoping that the RC class this year keep this one afloat.

Do you think there would be any interest in a Bowman Chrome Sapphire online product? 150 BC prospects from 2019 Bowman and 200 cards from 2019 Bowman Chrome would provide for a 350 card set. Could sell in boxes of 50-100 cards per box with 3 prospect autos and parallels (traditional gold, orange, red). I think Topps would make money on it with a short prospect auto checklist like Mega box. Maybe add a few RC autos like Vlad, Alonso, Chavis, Riley, Tatis, and Jiminez and could be a pretty hot product.

Anyone know when this is going to be released and/or when you can buy it on Topps.com?

usually early october.

Man I loved this stuff last year. Absolutely beautiful cards. My only regret is pulling 3 Acuna base and an Acuna Auto in a 5 box break and not believing the rumors that they were SSP so I sold them on here for $350...I just bought a psa 9 for $600ish ...Hobby Fail

It's crazy too that the base Sapphire tends to go for more than the auto Sapphire Acuna.

It doesn't "tend to go" for more - it goes for a lot more. :flex:

IMO, the Sapphire Acuna was such a hit, at least in part, because of the look. The sapphire cracked ice with Acuna's jersey was just freakin' gorgeous. It's seriously one of the best looking cards that I've ever held in my hand.

Now...

A Red Sapphire Soto with that '18 TCU/TU image would have been stunning. The blue would have been nice and all but that red would have been epic.

These might drop sooner than expected if Update cards are not included. I would say mid to late September.

Update wasn't included last year either and they dropped October 18th. I don't know why it would be a full month earlier.

KhalDrogo 08-05-2019 01:17 PM

Can’t wait for this obviously. I hit a base Acuna and orange Torres auto in my one box last year. Sold the Acuna raw for $450 to a board member, which was above the going rate at the time (it gemmed with PSA). I then happened to come across a raw copy soon after on Christmas night for $300 on eBay. Sent to BGS and got a true gem.

I’m in for as many boxes as I can get. I hope they keep the box format instead of the set.

The fact that the Vladdy Topps Chrome Base has the same image as his Flagship Series 2 Base will make the price on the Vladdy Sapphire Base very interesting.

the autographs also have a red/10

base cards had a print run of ~250, if our math was right

Think the number that gets thrown around the most is /285 on them. It's based off of 2,000 boxes made with 702 cards in the set. From all that I've seen you normally get 7 non-base per set - 3 Red /10 & 3 RC Autos & then either an extra Red /10, Super /1 or extra RC Auto as the final non-base per set.

I was following this very closely when the product was first released and the 2,000 box print run seems to work all throughout when you look. The Supers are listed as 1:4 but they were falling much more often, etc & the extra card seemed to be a Red /10 in every other set - 3.5 Reds per set means 2,000 box print run. All anecdotal of course.
