2018 Topps Chrome Update: Sell or Hold?
 

I was looking on blowout earlier and saw the 2017 Bowman Mega Boxes are going for over $70 (original price $14.99).

My question is, do you think 2018 Topps Chrome Update will have the same future?

My initial thought was hell no...

However if a couple of these RCs pan out into superstars sure. The Soto super not being pulled yet helps too.

That's my thought too. I mean Acuna, Soto and Ohtani alone could end up keeping the demand high in my opinion. Especially if they all do well.

I don't think this year's Chrome Update will be in line with 2017 Bowman Mega....different animal....imo

That’s totally random and doesn’t mean there are more in hangers, just means there are some in hangers

I’m the opposite! I’ve opened about 30 hangers and not pulled any autos. But I’ve pulled 4 in 20 mega boxes.

I like the hangers though because I’m a big fan of the pink refs.

Ten bazillion were produced. Literally 3 days ago I could go into multiple Targets and pick up blasters and/or hangers. This is after this being an incredibly hyped up product.

Not that it will have zero value, but if you are storing these expecting them to become 2011 update, good luck with that.

There were about 70,000 boxes of the 2017 Bowman Mega and only two mega chromes packs per box - so 140,000 packs. There are 170,000 box equivalents of 2017 Topps Chrome Update - 1,200,000 packs.

The print run of a bowman mega base from 2017 is around 5,000 - for topps update chrome this year it is about 40,000.

Will they hold value - likely - but I don't think $70 is coming soon.

Yeah, it will probably jump up to $35 this season, if 1 or 2 rookies get hot....could go higher, but it comes down to Soto breaking out.

Some of these Rookies are definite sleepers, too. (Overshadowed by Acuna, Ohtani, Torres, Soto, and Albies)

Right. Like I said they are in both and I agree, pinks make hangers worth it to me

Real easy to say that now - when boxes are $500. Nobody could have foreseen that.

I laughed and passed on this in 2018 and thought overproduction would kill our hobby. I was wrong.

Oh I know - it's just fun to bump these sometimes. I passed on them as well. And also was opening FOTL basketball at the time like it was nothing.
