Anyone else not find any of your primary wants going into the show?

I collect Indians more broadly but there was 3 things I was looking for in particular that I didn't see:
1. Rare Manny Ramirez Indians autographed cards
2. Sandy Alomar/Roberto Alomar Co-Signers Dual Autograph
3. Satchel Paige slabbed autograph flat in an Indians uniform (post card or smaller)

I'm pretty sure I only saw 2 Manny autographs the entire show: 99 SP Signature and 97 Donruss Signature base autographs. For the Alomar bros, I knew that was unlikely going into it. For Paige, I found a nice cut signature-relic card from 2005 UD pictured with the Indians. But in the end, I didn't want to spend $1,500 on a cut autograph.

I still found a lot of other stuff for my collection and had a lot of fun looking but it was a little disappointing to come away with none of the above.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I was hoping to find more George Brett auto'd cards that weren't overpriced. I only found one, so that was a letdown. I was also hoping to find a nicely centered PSA 7 to 8 George Brett RC, but the ones I found had centering issues.

Drew Bledsoe items found some but not very much thought I would find tons.

mike1498 08-05-2018 09:48 PM

There were 0 Larry Fitz high end besides 2 SP Authentic Rookie Autos
It was ridiculous. I was extremely disappointing

I was really hoping to get a nice 1989 PSA 10 Donruss Ken Griffey Jr., but I only found one at the entire show and it was too off center for my taste. A mild disappointment since they are hardly tough to come by, but nonetheless. I was also a bit disappointed to see a lack of 80's PSA 10 rookies in general, but I was able to come away with some really tough ones that I never thought I'd uncover, so it's all good.

Ha. We were looking for the same thing, and I am confident I looked at the same card as you, because I had the exact same thought.

Yes. I was looking for unopened graded wax, and it was either way over priced or cleaned out quickly by all of the breakers

That would have been high up on my list, too. I didn't attend this year. Last minute decision to skip it, knowing that I left with next to nothing back in 2014. Not knocking the fun and the experience at all, because I enjoyed the time. I just know that nice mid-high end UD stuff from 1998-2008 football is like an entire collecting niche and good stuff rarely shows up, even there. Swear to god it seems like a freaking black hole, now. Some people have got to have some insane collections of that stuff. It was the beginning of low numbered, on card autograph sets and it's frustrating going long stretches without finding anything at all.

I'll be there next time it's in Cleveland, though. I already regret not heading up for a day or two this time. First one I've skipped in Cleveland in a long time. I know I likely wouldn't have found anything, but it's still a blast to see all that and look around, etc.

mcgahee21nfl 08-05-2018 10:07 PM

I didn't find mine. I didn't go, but I didn't find them either.

Ha, probably. He also had a 1989 Donruss Rookies Griffey, but it too was fairly off centered considering the grade. I couldn't pull the trigger. I think the guy was in the 2000 section, or thereabouts.

jataman2612 08-05-2018 10:11 PM

I was hoping to find some more auto's I needed. No one had a nice Ramirez auto on a ball. There were a few Eddie Murray baseballs but the price was just too high. I can find one on eBay for half the price.

I found some good game used stuff but it was either way too expensive or it was affordable but with awful players.

I did find a ticket from Len Barker's perfect game which is on my list of wants but the guy was asking way more than I wanted to pay for it. I was going to go back and negotiate a price the next day but it was already gone.

There were a couple nice 1/1 cards of his but they were over priced. I collect him too and passed on the two I saw because they were asking almost double what they would go for

Magicman32 08-05-2018 10:20 PM

i came home buying 4 cards. I collect Paul Posluszny and found zero low numbered cards of his and I collect Larry Fitzgerald. Saw the two Sp rookies and two 1/1 all over priced. Did pick up a nice patch /25 of Fitzgerald and a base jersey I didn't have but that was it. My other two cards were a McGwire auto and Thurman Thomas super bowl auto.....so nothing great on the buying singles front

Where and who was selling it? I didn't see one 1/1 both days I looked. I’d be curious to also hear what it was and what price they were asking

majestik101 08-05-2018 10:24 PM

Sounds to me based off the responses I am seeing here and elsewhere that most cards at the National are overpriced, or being sold by sellers who don't like to haggle about their prices.

The one was out of Luxe and had the rd from the cardinals on it. Guy was wanting $200 for it. He was towards the area where they were signing about 4 rows in. It was a nice card but I have similar ones that I bought for less.

The other was a national treasure patch. Had three colors four breaks. Not sure what year. Guy was asking $300 and wouldn't budge. He was located in the back section.

I was there on Saturday and didn't see the one until almost 530

The cardinals luxe sold on Thursday because I asked Neuhart cards if they had Larry Fitz and they said they sold the 1/1 luxe. So I guess someone bought that for 200 unless that person you saw it from was reselling it

And I don’t know what NT sells for above 300 besides the shield but that sounds ridiculous

Uwfootball1 08-05-2018 10:45 PM

You can add me to the list found a few cards (under 10) for secondary lists and a few nice pickups of other stuff.

However 5 B.J Ryan cards all of which I had, so nada for me as well. I asked every dealer with modern stuff as well as searched thru countless boxes in a hunt for any parallels and other things when the dealers weren’t sure. Shoutout to all the dealers that had their stuff organized by team, made my day every time a booth was organized like that.

Neuhart was negotiable on prices from my experience. I bought a Thome auto from them both Thursday and Friday for 75% asking price each time.

Nolanfan5714 08-05-2018 11:04 PM

Very little modern Nolan Ryan stuff. A lot of really nice vintage, graded and non graded, a bunch new autos but not much in between. Found one guy with some patch cards. Grabbed 3

There was a PSA 10 Contenders...

Yunked 08-05-2018 11:48 PM

Was looking for a few Albies auto’s but seemed like most tables had just sold em or didn’t have the ones I were looking for. Found one I liked, the guy had it priced at triple it’s value and said he’d give me a “deal” by lowering it to double what the cost of it was worth. No thanks bud!

sandlotsportcards 08-06-2018 08:08 AM

I didn't find the 2 big wants on my list. I was looking for a Ty Cobb cancelled check (didn't see one) and a Jim Thorpe Topps All American. I did see those throughout the show but none to my liking. Most were either overpriced or off center enough that I didn't want to buy one just to buy it.

Bowman1951 08-06-2018 08:10 AM

Went for Mike Schmidt PSA graded cards to either upgrade or add to my collection, left severely disappointed. But that was about it, I did find other things I was looking for at prices a tad bit lower than eBay.

They must of been reselling it because I was there on Saturday. Saw it right before I left that day. I was only up there for the one day.
