Why is You Tube not more popular?
I have been doing card videos on You Tube now for several years. It is shocking to me how few people within the card collecting community watch videos.
I think it is a great medium to show off your collection and meet a bunch of other collectors. So my question is, Do you watch collecting videos on You Tube? If your answer is no then why not? I am looking forward to seeing your responses. |
Watching others open packs is not really that entertaining. Unless I am the one they are being broken for.

I want to see hot chicks ripping packs while twerking

Obviously you haven't delved into it much because there is A LOT more than just box breaks on You Tube. I actually agree that is pretty boring and I hardly ever watch those either. In fact, I almost never do that on my channel. Many, many others are the same. What would you tune in for? Because I bet I could point you to some channels you would enjoy. |

There are countless more entertaining videos to see on Youtube other than someone opening boxes, showing off their collection or just chatting about new products. Does not sound appealing at all
|
i like to watch the cards infinity videos or i'll try to watch videos of people doing video of card shows, the national, or opening a box i might try in the future to see what it is like.

Isn't that all Blowout Forums is??? Except they are typing about it instead of videoing it!! |
It's easier and quicker to scroll through pictures than it is to sit through a 20 minute video.
|
Plus....just think of some of the absolutely horrible speakers, disgusting backgrounds and so on.
Just some of the eBay listings turn me away from buying cards, think if someone didn't have the best hygiene and was shooting a video of their collection.....woof..... |

This! |
because youtube is becoming a very scary place now and the card community is no longer popular.
|
I skip watching most of them altogether. Especially when so many tend to go over board with their "Crazy Sick Mojo pullz bruh!" antics.
I do like these guys though (off the top of my head). They're more my speed and I find their videos to be pretty good and to the point. Capital P Smiddle Sports Cards Dave's Sports Cards Cards Infinity Cardboard Treasures |

Why is it a "scary place"? |

Not necessarily applies but youtube being more strict on monetizing and them catering to big creators and ignoring the small guys. After the whole "Jake Paul filming a dead person" youtube took it out on small youtubers. They only took away like a few days worth of ads from Jake. |

The new mpnetization rules have killed the site for many of the smaller channels, even some of the bigger channels have taken huge hits. Add in some of the other rule changes they have made in recent weeks and many have lost interest in the site altogether. |
What I'd like to see is someone post videos of how to prep cards before submitting them to BGS/PSA (I've searched and only found 1 video that was semi helpful).
Additionally they could let the audience know what they believe a certain card will grade and why (corners, surface, etc.). Once the submission returns, upload a video with grades he received. If he sent the subs to BGS, he could compare his personal grades with those actually received. The subscribers (us) will get to watch this youtuber harness his grading skills, as well as learn from him/her. I'd also be interested in videos detailing certain products. For example 2014 Panini Absolute. To this day I still have problems figuring out the name of certain parallels and how to tell the difference from one and the other. I don't watch case/box breaks (unless I'm a participant) from well known Breakers and/or shops. Yet I do enjoy watching the regular guy open up a box and/or mail day. I can't remember the names off the top of my head - but below is a brief description of them. Perhaps some of you could provide me with the names. The one guy who's a Ravens fan and calls everyone Brotha. Recently sold his house. This one guy who's channel name sounds like "Adev"...I believe he recently joined the marines/army. Youtuber "10pm", he PC's Ohio State. He's cool...unfortunately peeps were stealing his mail and he had to slow his roll...but I believe he's coming back. A young kid who PC's Broncos. One of his videos had me cracking up. It involved a mail day care package from some jerk. That's all I'll say. |
I get sucked into the yt rabbit hole and end up watching the news bloopers from around the world most of the time. anything more than a couple of minutes loses me rather quickly.
also when not on wifi or connected directly to the interwebs yt really sucks on mobile 4g/3g etc. fwiw I found someone who loaded the entire technotronic pump up the jam album on yt and that has become my new workout background music staple. |

Because I don't have 10 minutes to watch someone rip a box? I can get the exact same result in 10 seconds by someone posting a picture of their hits.
Medium matters. It's different for gaming cards (i.e. MtG) because there are set reviews, card analysis, games being played, etc. Much better medium for it than card collections. |
basically what many are saying. there is not much that will get me to watch anything on youtube. especially watching someone take 10 minutes to show 3 cards from their collection or what they got in a pack.
|
Because people need to watch more ozzyman videos LOL!
Kevin |
Because no one has the time to watch a 10 minute 1 box break of 2017 Bowman Chrome HTA

I started a channel recently after being inspired by others that were doing it and just to add another aspect to the hobby. I only have like 30 subscribers so far and my most popular video is at like 125 views after about a month, but I don't really care. It's more for me to look at in 5 or even 10 years and see what was popular, if I was right about how prices may change etc.
There are a lot of popular card channels out there getting thousands of views. I don't know if I'll ever be there one day but I'm having fun with it, and that's all that matters. |
