Topps Update Corey Patterson Gold is SSP?
Does anyone know what the deal is with the 2010 Topps Update #US-31 regular gold card of Corey Patterson? Nobody seems to have it.
|
15 years later and I'm looking for this card and the #US-256 Mike Gonzalez. Were you ever able to find a copy?

LOL damn, this may win "most zombified post resurrected" award. |
I feel bad for Phil. He probably got a email notification that after 14.5 years someone had finally replied to his thread, he probably thought it was someone saying that had the card and they could have it for free… only to see that sillygoose.

None of the CoPat cards have ever made it to COMC. Two Mike Gonzalez cards have sold, the highest being sold for $6.50.

There's a handful of the Golds from that set that are SSP. I believe Patterson is one of them. |

My brain is fritzing out on how a card /2010 can have short-prints?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The Mike Gonzalez on COMC is #d 105/2010, so it's weird that they just didn't release 2000 of them or whatever. |

Most of these were destroyed in the printing process, from what I remember. One gold card has never been seen that I know of, 117 Martin Prado - all-star. I bought a lot of update cards that year and only pulled one from that list of 15 that bbteamw posted. |
I believe I pulled an Arrieta from a case in 2010.

That is crazy they would let ~30K numbered cards just disappear into the ether due to a quality spill. Let alone the fact that many cards didn't get caught before they were destroyed. So wild. Someone fell asleep on their quality checks during that run.:D |
Them being destroyed makes a lot of sense, and now I know why I paid more for the last Jake Arrieta on eBay than any other card in my gold collection.
Sad that these last two will be almost impossible to find, but I'm glad that they actually made them. I found out that these gold cards were never made so there is a hole in my collection: 2005 #337 2004 American League Batting Average (Ichiro / Mora / Guerrero) 2005 #340 2004 American League Runs Batted In (Tejada / Ortiz / Ramirez) 2005 #358 Miguel Tejada 2005 #359 Melvin Mora |
I don't want to make any promises but I *might* have some 2010 update golds if anybody is looking for them. Will look when I have some time to sort...
Will keep an eye for corey patterson and mike gonzalez |

COMC would be preferable so I don't have to use my real money on them haha |
It is a small chance but if I do he can have them for free

Dang… Mother Theresa over here! You are passing up like two weeks worth of Baconators by not selling. |
Glad I clicked on this thread!

I saw on the FCB thread that one of the guys called the scarcer Golds "shortprints of shortprints". The gold parallel set isn't short-printed as it's not part of the base set. It's a parallel of the base set serial numbered to 2010. Now calling the scarcer golds "short-prints", with the evidence produced, I can buy that. It would be funny if someone opened a case and all they got were the golds of those players. I'm guessing the sheets were damaged and the ones that didn't make it were thrown out or they fell on the floor and were just trashed.
|
I've never heard of a serially numbered card being short printed...
|
I think I remember that an Andrew McCutchen gold was known to be scarce - something about the printing or packaging process. Cant remember which year though
As far as serial-numbered cards being scarcer than the printed value, I can tell you that only 34 of the 50 2004 Bowman Draft Chrome gold refractor AFLAC cards were distributed. Ironically, because more than 50 redemptions were inserted, and Topps offered the 4-card autographed sets in their stead. All but 34 accepted the offer |
The tough Cutch Gold is his All-Star card from 2013 Update. No copy has ever reached COMC, for example. I heard about it back then but with no explanation given. I also heard that about another Gold on that checklist but it currently has 5 copies for sale, so that was wrong.

The 2008 Topps Heritage Chrome Jerry Hairston, Jr./1959 is also an SSP.
