Best NBA commentators???
Who is the best and most knowledgable preaching the game?
|
Hubie Brown by a wide margin
|
I personally enjoy Marvelous
|
Most knowledgeable has got to be Hubie. He knows his sheet.
|
JVG all day! He has some great thoughts and some stupid ones, but at least he is willing to discuss them openly!
|
JVG for me as well.
He reminds me of myself. |
Hubie
Doug Collins JvG |
I wish more people outside of NY or without the MSG channel had a chance to hear full games called by Walt Clyde Frazier. As gimmicky as he may seem at first because of all his stylin rhymin, he's really knowledgable and isn't afraid to disagree with Breen.
Other favorites are Gundy, Brent Barry, and Marv. I also don't mind Reggie Miller as much as many people on here. On the other hand, Mark Jackson and Chris Webber need to be fired. |
Marv Albert- He just seems to enjoy the games more than anyone in the arena.

And believe it or not, Chris Webber has actually improved considerably from when he first started. He used to team with Gary Payton and make little more than adolescent noises. It was totally unbearable and embarrassing to endure. Now he's much more subdued and even somewhat analytic. Not saying he's great or insightful, but he's at least pleasant and mature now. |

I believe he and Webber were on Fox Sports for awhile. It wasn't in-game commentary, IIRC -- I believe it was post-game analysis -- but it was my first exposure to Webber's commentary. If anyone had told me then that he would eventually be promoted to in-game commentator, I would have laughed them out of the room.

Hubie is the best. I love Mike Breen. Doug Collins is good. Red Kerr.
A lot of people don't like him but I used to really like Bill Walton. Jeff Van Gundy I like. Nobody as good as Chick Hearn though, RIP. I HATE BOB COSTAS. Go away dude, retire, stop talking about sports, you suck. |
I'm not the biggest fan of Hubie. Yes his knowledge is incredible but he tends to point out the obvious a lot. Almost Madden like.
Marv has lost it. Every time I've watched a game with him on the mic he continues to misidentify players and gets stats wrong. Mike Breen and JVG are good. Bill Walton is hilarious even if he doesn't intend to be. Jeff Turner and David Steele do a good job for Magic games, one of the few unbiased commentator teams out there. |
Bill Walton is my favorite by far, but I think Hubie is also excellent.
I like the Kings guys Jerry Reynolds and Grant Napear, although I really don't like Napear's radio show. I also think the Lakers radio voices, John Ireland and Mychal Thompson, are excellent. I wish Webber was better since I'm a huge fan of his, but he's got a lot of improving to do. |

Yeah I've been noticing that for a few years. I know the guy is iconic and all, but his time is definitely running out. |
Agree that Marv is out of the loop. He makes a lot of mistakes and tends to force excitement.
Can't stand Mark Jackson. Even on slow motion replays, he'll make the wrong call and proclaim it as fact. Happens too often on ball out of bounds plays. Like dude, are you blind??? Him and JVG do make me and my girlfriend laugh from time to time though. I'm not a fan of Van Gundy or Jackson, but they have a good chemistry and dynamic calling games together. Hubie is the best. He just calls it like he sees it. No over hyping. Bill Schoening on WOAI in San Antonio is an incredible sportscaster and has made me feel many times like I was watching the game when I wasn't able to. Also, Sean Elliott for Fox Sports has always been a favorite of mine when watching locally televised Spurs games. He's always quick to give the other team's players props when someone makes a nice play and he always has excellent insight on the X's and O's of the game too. Always calls the game from an unbiased perspective, while at the same time, subtly showing his allegiance to SA. |
I dunno who dies the home Rockets boradcast but i listened to him this year. First time I've stopped watching a game because of a commentator. He pissed and moaned more than Draymond Green. The refs got every call against the Rockets wrong. I looked him up, he's some legendary old guy (not a player) who's called their games for years. Anyway he was horrid.
For the regular guys. I like JVG the most, don't mind Mike Breen. I miss that guy Kevin who used to call the Twolves games... |

I used to have League Pass until last year and always liked his enthusiasm and humor when I watched Rockets games. I do recall him being something of a homer, but not to an extreme extent; he's a play-by-play guy, so he usually didn't interject his opinion much. Color commentators usually give opinions more and thus can be bigger homers. Austin Carr of Cleveland and Tom Heinsohn of Boston are/were the worst in this regard. |
Mike breen and jvg, if i could have them commentate every game i watch i would be a happy fan
|
Vince McMahon and Jim Ross
:D |
I enjoy listening to Kevin Harlan call games.
|
Bill Walton, lol, I love his commentary.
Mark Jackson is the biggest sell out of all commentators, he is the worst. |
Which one out of these guys: Vince carter, shaq, billups, kg, Barkley, paul pierce or Reggie miller?
