Topps NOW! is out. Yay.

It looks like eTopps but with real cards. |

It looks like eTopps but with real cards.
eTopps was real cards, but most were kept/traded/sold online. I'm curious if there's a cap number on these, or if they just sell as many as they can. |
what is this? Is this like a baseball card that was made within the last 24 hours on yesterdays games?
|
is there a print run limit, or will the presses just run
$9.99 for 1 card $29.99 for 5 cards $49.99 for 10 cards $79.99 for 20 cards |
what is this? Is this like a baseball card that was made within the last 24 hours on yesterdays games?
yes.. |
Ok, so obviously an attempt to make even more money, but I have to say... I don't hate the idea. If Mookie Betts hits for a cycle or something, I will definitely buy a few the next day.
|

Yes, I'm aware of this. I just added 551 lots of 20 cards at $79.99 per lot, totalling $44,074.49. So, I added over 11,000 cards. I think they'll print to order. |

Yes it is unlimited print run for 24 hours
|
More than I thought.
After a 24-hour sale, the Garbage Pail Kids New Hampshire Primary set has come to a close. GPK and political fans from all walks of life found themselves purchasing these exclusive cards from Topps.com. As Topps promised, here are the print runs for the Garbage Pail Kids New Hampshire Primary cards: Donald Trump: 758 Hilary Clinton: 729 Bernie Sanders: 722 Ted Cruz: 712 Chris Christie: 703 John Kasich: 699 Ben Carson: 698 Marco Rubio: 697 Jeb Bush: 696 |

Playing with the numbers, I got a nastygram stating that the max quantity I can order is 10,000 units of 20 cards. 200,000 cards. $799,900.
These seem rare and limited.:doh::doh::doh: |
2 cards a day x 162 games @$9.99 per card = a crap ton of cash to spend on the season set
|
$10 for a gimmick base card?
I figure if a player does something really news-worthy, there will be a card commemorating the event in the following year's Topps set anyways. Likely with a relic, auto or manu-patch. Further thoughts...maybe if these were limited to 100 copies, or were chromed, or die-cut....or ANYTHING other than a plain base card I can see more appeal. |
Kind of neat I guess since they can make cards about current MLB events quickly. I think mouschi brought something up like this last season with the Bautista bat flip, like what if Topps had a card of it out that week or the next day.
|
According to them, they're only available for 24 hours. But if this succeeds (LOL), they'll be available for a lot longer.
This reminds me of buying prints of someone's Photobucket images. The "creative geniuses" at Topps are working hard at creating new markets and revenue streams... seems they have little faith in their core business. |

Otherwise you can buy a "bundle" for $99.99 to get the limited chrome! |
Eww..

I wonder if they'll be able to hit their 3-5 day shipping window. That seems like a pretty quick turn around to design, produce and get the cards ready for shipment.

ink jet printers can print some good pics. |
I don't see this as a bad thing. Sorry, but id rather have a card with meaning then just some random base card. On top of that, print to order for a 24 hr period. If they stick to that and don't reprint will keep some of this stuff really limited. Imagine those legit MLB debut cards. :)!

The ones that used to sell out when they were $6-8 and limited to 8500 on eTopps? You think these are going to be limited, at $4 a card (in quantity) for debuts? |
I think it would be pretty cool to commemorate a visit to the ball park. We only go to three or four games a year, to have a nice card from those games to display with the tickets and such would be cool.
|
I just bought the Royals card, because it looks cool and I've bought worse for $10.
One thing is, you still have to pick a shipping method, and they all have prices. If you choose Smart Post, it's free shipping, but the other methods cost the normal amount. Based on them still having to make the card and that it's being shipped via Smart Post, I'm expecting to see the card sometime around the All Star break. |

Should have done it for. Call-ups/Debuts, no-hitters, events/special moments etc. Limited debut of rookies card that only are available for 1 day could be popular down the road. Liriano striking out 10 people on a Sunday...pass
|

Only if something card-worthy happens at the game you go to. Otherwise the game won't have anything made to commemorate it. |
Limited more so then the base Topps crap that comes out now.
Which come in a pack of 10-12 with chances for autos/SPs/jerseys for $2-3. |
As long as they don't overdo it (haha), I think this could be a neat little extra. I don't see anybody trying to complete the set or anything but if they feature a guy I collect, I'd be willing to buy one on occasion.
|
Stupid...
|
I kinda like it, If something cool happens I'll probably get one.
|
Yeah, I enjoy taking shots at Topps as much as the next guy, but this isn't the worst idea they have ever had. Can you imagine if they had this last year? Bryant's first HR, Arrietta No No, etc... There is some potential here. FWIW, 2015 Stadium Club did a Kershaw Auto of his no hitter and it is pretty sweet - I have #22 out of 25 and it is one of my favorite cards.

Would it be one of your favorite cards if it wasn't autoed, and wasn't serially #ed? |

That's a good point. Probably not. |
Kind of a neat idea. I notice the cards are numbered on back. I wonder if tomorrow's cards will begin numbering with #3 or start again with a new #1 or #2. If the former, then there might be a little more reason to pick up a Liriano since it would be the first in a set.

Lol yeah, that is the first thing I thought of when I heard about this. Here is the link to the article I wrote: Is this the future of collecting? - Tan Man Baseball Fan |
So... when does Topps start inserting Now coupons in their other products?
|
Looks like Kershaw might get a card tomorrow. anyone else? Bryce Harper, Robinson Cano or Kyle Seager HR in first AB of 2016?
|
I could see Harper getting a card.
|
They could use this picture:

eTopps looked better but the shortened print run is rather cool.
|
eTopps looked better but the shortened print run is rather cool.
They definitely won't be rare if they're made every day of every baseball season. Besides, nothing is really rare anymore. |
Looks like Kershaw might get a card tomorrow. anyone else? Bryce Harper, Robinson Cano or Kyle Seager HR in first AB of 2016?
Ariel Pena: the first reliever in Major League history to surrender three home runs on Opening Day? Giants went back to back to back on him. He deserves one! |
At least it looks better than that smoke/haze around every player crap that is on Topps Series 1 and Opening Day(and probably Series 2, Update, Mini if they do it,etc...)
|
I think Harper, Kershaw, and maybe a Giants homerun trifecta card tomorrow.
|
Topps figures out new ways to make money, stays in business, keeps selling me baseball cards. Fine with me.
And yeah, that blurring of all background this year - no thanks. Let me see the stadium, etc. All Torso All The Time is wearing me down. |
I wonder if they will store these cards in the same drawer as the e topps cards they are holding for ransom once they jack the shipping charge to 19.99 per card?
|
....The "creative geniuses" at Topps are working hard at creating new markets and revenue streams... seems they have little faith in their core business.
Didn't they lose their NFL license? They gotta make up the revenues some other way... |
No updates for the games yesterday. Thought maybe they would have cards from the early games already...
|
Not sure why people would think this is a bad thing? Topps can be BRUTAL, and I hate to defend them, but you simply don't have to buy it if you don't like, just like any product they put out. It's perhaps a bit gimmicky, but I think it is a decent idea.
I also think some of these cards, particularly some of less popular teams might not have huge prints because some people will lose interest or stop paying attention after a while. Nevertheless, it certainly doesn't hurt anything. There is a lot to be mad a Topps about, but I don't think this falls in that category. |

wtb Trevor Story 2 HR Topps NOW card, pst.
|
I'll take a Harper card.....hello.
|
I'd be curious to see the print runs for the first 2 cards today, may influence future decisions to purchase.
|
FYI, I didn't buy my 200,000 card allotment.
|
Topps must read the forums... Harper and Story are today's 2 cards.
https://www.topps.com/collectibles/trading-cards/topps-now.html/?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=4-4%20Topps%20Now%20Launch%20One&utm_term=All%20Sports%20and%20Auction |
Not a bad idea. I'll bet the Harper and Story cards do well. For Story this will be his first "RC" logo card which might mean something to a segment of the collectors out there.
|
At $10 a pop, the buy-in will keep most away, but I kind of like this new venture by Topps. As long as they are honest about the numbers, etc, this could be a thing.
|
Liriano print run is 266
Royals print run is 356 |
266 and 356 for first two cards...not bad. Any bets on the over/under for the Story RC? I'd say 750.
|
I wish we could preorder and get the quantity discount. I have no need for doubles but would love probably one copy of 20 different cards. We should get a thing going on here where member X buys the 20 for $80 ($4 per card) and sells them to members for maybe $6 in a PWE. They'll make like $30 each time, and members who only want one get a 40% discount. Perhaps even work something out where they hold onto them until the end of month or season to save on shipping.
Edit: I'm willing to do it this way if anyone is interested... If 20 people send me $80, I'll purchase a copy of each of the top 20 most wanted cards and send each member a single copy of each. Each day we can vote (maybe in this thread) and if at least 10 people want that card, I'll order it. We'd need to work out the details but I could see this working, it's much cooler IMO at $4 a card then $10 a card to have one of each of the 20 best cards in the set |
Woot, glad I ordered 10 of each yesterday. The legacy numbering on this will make these have much higher demand.
|
I bet by midseason, some of these pass 2k. RCs much higher.
|
I bet by midseason, some of these pass 2k. RCs much higher.
Oh definitely. Imagine a Carlos Correa or Kris Bryant from last season? Yikes. |
I just bought 5 of the Story cards
|
How Topps could screw this up:
1. Issue a complete set at the end of the year and not make the cards any different. 2. Having RC's appear on multiple cards all with the RC logo. How Topps could make this an epic WIN 1. Serial number the cards |
Then again, you are paying $10 for an unnumbered base card. Say a print run of a Correa-type talent hits 5,000 cards. How much would someone pay on the secondary market for that "debut" card?
It's not chrome, its not autographed, its not numbered. Just an announced print run of 5,000 cards. Would there be much value over the $10 buy-in? If runs stay much lower, then yeah I could see the value going up. I would just think prospectors/gamblers may be ordering the RCs in bulk which would keep values down. Case in point, 2014 Carlos Correa Bowman Chrome refractors. These are roughly $10 cards and you know the print run is in the thousands. AND its for a chrome card. |
So what are your guys thoughts on today's cards?
The photography is pretty nice, especially on that Story. Do you think these will command any value down the road since there is a limited print run? It's essentially just a base card though. Also, how long do we have to wait for these? Does Topps print these the day after? Is that what they mean by printing on demand? |
With the bulk ordering discounts we should work on placing group orders rather then 1 @ $9.99.
|
Not to bash the group order thing, but who's to say the person receiving the order won't cherry pick the best condition cards?
|
I just ordered 5 of each. It says they ship within 3-5 business days so we should start seeing them quickly. I'll bet the Story does exceptionally well on the secondary market since he won't have another "RC" logo card out for quite some time. Maybe Topps series 2?
|

Topps Base cards aren't really known for condition issues, but also cards directly from Topps come with that seal over the toploader so they are usually all in good condition. I'd be surprised if there was varying conditions between cards in a single order. If they're numbered we could work out where everyone gets a specific number in the sequence (i.e. we get cards 62-81 out of 208, you always get the 3rd card so you get 64/208) |
