At the end: Kobe v Lebron

Kobe is getting gushed over by every city he visits for the last time even though he has been a somewhat polarizing person. Will Lebron see the same love on his farewell tour, less or more? I think cities will give The King a better send off, personally.

Nyfancam01 01-18-2016 06:47 PM

Yes. Lebron James will get crazy love at the end. Plenty of people who dislike him will eventually see just how special he really is/was.

IMO, I don't think Lebron will receive the same outpouring that Kobe has.

Despite all that Kobe has done to opposing teams (and fans), I think you've still got admire him for his sheer determination and will. His unquestionable confidence, pre-injury, in himself is something that is Jordan-esque.

With Lebron, we're constantly told that "he's the best in the league", "a leader" and so-on. He's not the one re-enforcing these values, the media is. Kobe would take that last shot, Kobe would keep pushing for better or worse. Lebron takes himself out of the game, time and time again.

That, and Kobe stayed with Lakers his whole career, irrelevant of team success. Loyalty given=respect earned.

Well said. Lebron turns it on when Lebron wants to turn it on.

Kobe and Jordan were never questioned on their will power.

Bars and Bar 01-18-2016 07:06 PM

Well, Lebron is the better player AND he is more polarizing.

The fact is that Kobe is overrated and his play sucks this year. Not only is he boring to watch right now, but his publicity is incredibly annoying.

Lebron will get a better farewell tour in about 15 years once he says he is calling it a career. He likely will have at least six rings by then.

Curry is the answer.

What. A. Post.

Totally agree with this.

Kobe is better. More points, more championships. And Lebron needed 2 all stars to finally win. Just watch him live.

LOL. You actually think kobe is a better overall player ??? James passed him LONG AGO.

oldgoldy97 01-18-2016 07:33 PM

People seem to have forgotten Kobe's dark (Colorado) years. I think there is less to "forgive" Lebron for.

Yeah he had shaq, LeBron had to leave his team because he kept losing and teamed up with 2 other top league superstars. Even Michael Jordan mentioned something about this, offensively kobe's moves are better looking. comin from an Allen Iverson fan, yet you love lbj?

Yep.
Allen Iverson is my absolute favorite of all time...

Iverson also loves Lebron. :)!

bkcardcollector 01-18-2016 08:08 PM

is LeBron retiring too?
news to me. I don't think Lebron is done yet. He got quite a few years left in those legs if you ask me

tristan20 01-18-2016 08:09 PM

Kobe has never been the best player in the league.
Kobe has not always been the best player on his own team.
Kobe has had a silver spoon since day one.
Players take pay cuts to get away from Kobe.

Oh but he has 5 rings so that must mean hes better, oh and Robert Horry has 7 so hes better than Jordan.

green4407 01-18-2016 08:25 PM

Curry>Kobe>LeBron>AI

Hope you all are watching the domination right now.

Orangejello727 01-18-2016 08:29 PM

Ill give a standing ovation once Lebron fans finally retire.

Lebron will get plenty of love in his last year. Even Kareem received a ton of cheers and adulation from fans in his last year and he was hated during his playing days by opposing fans.

xavieronly1 01-18-2016 11:09 PM

Depend if Lebron announces his retirement 3 years before his planned retirement date. With about 300 games, this should give enough time to change some haters to lovers.

Agree with this. Once people who hate on him realise his time is ending they'll suddenly wish they had appreciated him more. It's like that girl you never treated well your whole relationship and when she tells you she's leaving you suddenly realise what you had and that you can't replace her lol

I agree. I feel like a lot of guys during the Jordan era weren't all that valuable, but then they later were appreciated, like Barkley, Ewing, Reggie Miller, etc.

tjforce 01-19-2016 01:51 AM

Lebron..... will be top 3 in scoring and assists... possibly even as high as #1 and #3. That's just mindblowing.

He'll get his respect in the end as an all time great. I think people will be able to forgive 'the decision' if they have been able to forgive the girl at the hotel in Aspen

Great post.

To piggy back, LeBron looks like he was created in a lab and Kobe was never a TOP athlete (like Jordan, LeBron, McGrady, Vince). It's safe to say Kobe maximized every ounce of potential in his body.

LeBron's had an unbelievable career, but his game isn't the most aesthetically pleasing. Didn't turn opposing arenas out and have those fans chanting MVP in half the places he visited.

He's respected, but not adored in the same way.

JasonM32 01-19-2016 06:33 AM

Lebron will get a better send off because it's controlled by the media and people are sheep.

Example.. The media hammers on Kobe every day that he sucks now and the Lakers would be better off without him so the sheep say Kobe sucks and the Lakers would be better off with out him. Kobe announces that he's going to retire and the media starts kissing his ass and paying tribute to him. Then, on command, the sheep fall in line and start talking about what a great career he's had and how sorely he will be missed. It's now a love fest.

The press loves Lebron so when he retires they will boo hoo and carry on like he was the greatest player of all time. Then the sheep will talk about how he's the greatest and how he was always their favorite player and what a shame it is that he won't be around to share his special gift with them anymore. A lot of people like to do what they are told for some reason. They also like to repeat things that other people have said so that they sound smart.

Lebron has a losing record in the finals. I think that about says it all.

elsoblanco 01-22-2016 10:45 PM

And when you call yourself the king you had best deliver more than a losing nba finals record.
