2024 GPK Battle of the Bands - Green Day
 

Huh just saw [URL="https://www.topps.com/pages/gpk-battle-of-the-bands"]this as a release for tomorrow on Topps site[/URL]. [URL="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0662/9749/5709/files/Checklist_-_2024_GPK_BATTLE_OF_THE_BANDS_GREEN_DAY.pdf?v=1753708096"]Checklist[/URL] is suprisingly large with autos.

Gonna be a tough one to get an order through I'm sure. Everything is hard these days

They just did the WWE Cactus Jack Chrome release as EQL -- perhaps they'll do the same with this? Kinda came outta nowhere.

Boooo! Buncha sell outs. And no, not because of this, they've been that way for years.
Back when they made 'Kerplunk' in '91 or '92 on a DIY tour they made fun of Nirvana when 'Nevermind' came out for making videos for MTV and playing 'concerts' instead of 'shows'.

This set is like 4x bigger than it should be. A Kevin Smith style set that's 20 a/b cards is what I was expecting. I like Green Day, but nowhere near the amount to invest in buying boxes where it'll be hard to build a base set.

Topps/Fanatics is killing me lately with these gigantic sets and numerous insert sets. Chrome 7 and 40th are just not what I want out of GPK. It's not baseball, 400 card sets are crazy and all the added parallels make even building base sets difficult.

More importantly, Aaron Cometbus's "In China With Green Day" is being released as a book this month.

Anyone into punk rock but feels too old to buy zines should check it out.

It was previously released as Cometbus #54

I didn't get any website exclusive release for about a year until last week when I went for Bob Ross MLB.

It was "sold out" in 10 minutes, right when I was checking out.

Then people were posting about it still being available so I went back and got a box.

Topps now uses Shopify and there were major glitches that favored people who kept trying for Bob Ross.

No idea if this will be different since its a pre-order, but if it is sold out instantly I will try a couple more times.

Its humiliating, but worked last time...

I put four boxes in my cart but without odds posted, I just couldn't do it ... I'm not a crazy huge Green Day fan but they sure were a soundtrack for a summer or two growing up.

I'm a pretty decent fan, but I just couldn't pull the trigger.

Grabbed 6. My favorite band of all time, couldn't pass it up.

Base cards are still pretty awesome... I'm sure this release will sell insane.

If the Autographs are even 2 per case, it's a huge win, I think? Wonder how much was made and how difficult they will be.

I kinda find it hard to believe it would be 2 Autos per case. I was thinking like 1 auto every other case at best.

Picked up a case but I'm a fan of Green Day.

Still remember my wife (then girlfriend) and I attending an A's game and getting to watch them perform afterwards (sitting/dancing on the field). Golden memories!

And their music just hits :)

Looking to be a pretty popular release, the cases are on the edge of sold out - have popped in and out of stock a couple of times already.

Yeah I would speculate it would be more like 1 in every 2 to 4 cases, perhaps the combined relic/au come down to 1-2 per case

Snagged a case, was thinking about 2 but without checklist or much more info can't do it

GPK in my experience doesn't instantly sell-out but if pre-sell cases are still available tomorrow they likely made a fair amount of this

I cancelled my case. The lack of odds and fact they dropped 10k+ boxes at preorder tells me this is printed really high. Also no mention of box contents.

Yeah, generally my experience is this happens as bots and multiple account holders have orders cancelled. Of course, it is possible that Topps is adding more stock, but I have seen this commonly on higher demand non-EQL release.

Would it me more cost effective if you want autos or relics to wait for them on ebay.

Pretty steep prices with unknown odds.

You have 30 mins to cancel since the switch to Shopify. One of the few bright spots.

I'm pretty excited about that specific insert set.

My username is "EastBayAk" and the East Bay refers to the eastern part of the SF Bay Area (where Green Day was formed). That's definitely an insert set to PC :)

hate the no odds. could regret not buying but doesn't seem like a good gamble. these niche releases usually do pretty well though

If you buy you can open for a chance at any specific auto or relic or if boxes go up you may be able to sell and buy the auto or relic you want with the proceeds

I bought one box just for the moonshot of the triple auto. a nonsports grail

I think they likely made a good amount more of this than the standard GPK niche release but there is an absurd amount of people in this world who like Green Day so the demand is likely there even with a fairly high print run

Cases have been in stock this entire time for me until just now, showing as OOS

I went back and ordered a case to put away. Now I'll just open the boxes. Pulling that triple auto would be amazing!

I should've purchased 2 cases (1 to rip and 1 to put away).

I still have a case in my cart and hoping for a restock but it's been OOS for a minute. Wondering if I should just remove it and add some boxes (to rip) to the cart and go through with purchase. I'd much rather rip a case though (with loose boxes, it can work for/against you and I'm generally not as lucky as most haha).

Will they restock case on the 27th? Or are preorders all they produce?

After I purchased the 6 boxes, I had the same thought about 2 cases. You're absolutely right about loose boxes. I'm right up there with you on the luck factor with those. At first, I was really hesitant to buy as much as I ended up buying, but GD has been my favorite band since the very beginning, so I thought, "How often is something Green Day themed like this coming around again?", and I had to go for it.

Haha, the bolded convinced me to purchase 7 loose boxes (I planned to match you at 6 but decided to go with 7, my favorite number, to hopefully add some extra luck for the rip).

It was a product designed to open one or two of the tiny boxes. The problem was that the printer must have read 100,000 boxes instead of 100 cases because they ain't [I]ever[/I] running out of that product ... and that's at the height up of the hobby ...

I'm actually thankful that you posted about it because I might've missed it otherwise.

For the first time in a long time, I actually don't care about "ROI" (it certainly helps that GPK wax is much more affordable than sports cards wax). Obviously, I still want to pull the chase cards but I'm genuinely excited to put together the 100-card base set.

Been pretty common with these sort of products, the GPK x MLB, and others. Basically usually 8 base, 1-insert, and 1-parallel per pack. Once we know the most common parallel -- /149 or whatever, the pack / box / cases produced will be calculated by someone on this thread.

Everything about this was odd ... the only normal thing was that I felt like I was getting ripped off as I put boxes into my cart ;)

Look, if you've got some limited release like that weird Dune release -- go ahead and tell me the day before you release it ... but I saw this on the homepage and saw that the year dated on the product is 2024 and was just super confused when I saw the size of the checklist ... very large print run, you would think there would be a very large media push, yeah? I guess the Cactus Jack Chrome also was a surprise to me so maybe they just want to reward the people who are checking the site every day ... if you have enough releases, that could work but you'd think something like this would be aimed at bringing in Green Day fans to the hobby?

I had fun with the last GPK/MLB set but will be sitting this one out. If you are a fan, I guess you should be happy this one isn’t selling out quickly. Does seem like an overprinted set that could sit for awhile.

This format reminds me of the rolling stones set that dropped in the megabox format.

Wonder if this will be a wider release you'll find in retail stores. Don't see anything about online exclusive on the page and this is just a pre-order.

If it's the same as with the regular baseball cards they do pre-orders for, there will be more boxes available on the 27th, but they'll cost a little more, probably $84.99.

Pass for me, looks like they printed a lot of it and 10 parallels is nuts.

Green Day is coming up on the end of their world tour for their 14th album. They have some dates in South America through mid September, then wrap it all up with 4 U.S. dates spanning Sept. 21st-30th. Final stop is the Yaamava' Resort & Casino theater in San Bernadino, CA (where, as it happens, they are, this very night, giving a winner of a two-month contest a copy of Action Comics #1, the first appearance of Superman).

The other tour stops are Chicago, Dana Point (CA), and Ocean City (MD). I was thinking maybe they'd have some of the cards for sale at the merch table, like Post Malone had those Topps PostyFest cards for sale at his concert, but with so few dates left on the tour, so that seems unlikely.

There’s almost no indicators of the print run. Until odds come out it’s totally unknown. There are occasional sets the drop with lower print runs that stay in stock - like the WBC set.

Likewise. Thank you for posting. I took a blind dive, but happy I did. It's the first product in a while I thought actually looked great.

Single boxes now sold out. Will be interesting to see what this ends up being.

How do you know this? People keep making stuff up like they have some sort of inside knowledge.

You could be right. But don't state it like you know. There's absolutely zero indicators of the production run. Everything anyone says regarding production is a total assumption and guess. I'd actually argue that the sell out pace on this indicates a smaller print run...but who the hell knows?
