Looks like Stature is coming back with 23-24 and 24-25 rookies in it.

Saw a few preview pics and looks pretty good. Also only going to have 20 rookies per class, so hopefully no Luke Philp or Dave Gust cards in this.

I'm happy it's back as I love the look and thought it had pretty good cost to value ratio but what was the point not releasing it as a standalone for 23-24? Did UD realize "Engrained" wasn't a hit and Skybox E-X 2000 whatever still hasn't come on and they prob should of just released Stature, a set that was growing in popularity?

In the past Stature was like $129 /box, so on the more affordable side for a premium release. There was okay ROI on a box, usually 30+%. With the Bedard tax, I'm thinking they'll be about $799 and you'll get $15 in cards on average. YMMV :p

Found this up for pre-sale, $210/box and $3250/16 box case. A bit of the Bedard tax, but not as bad as I expected honestly. Also saw in a different spot a release date of 7/9.

Honestly almost no filler names on the checklists, some aren't great, but no outright misses altogether. Wish I had more left over funds, but should grab a couple boxes at least.

Yeah the hockey schedule is actually kinda brutal haha got Ultimate 24-25 scheduled for Oct 8th and Engrained Icons on the 29th, two other sets that should be pretty good

No auto guarantee is super rough, def better before it was an auto, mem or auto mem but hopefully the odds still favor a good amount of boxes getting autos and they atleast pick some nasty patches for non-auto boxes.

Is nice having a small rookie crop of two years increasing chance at an ok rookie.

That Orr Looks nice. May try it. Looks like the odds of pulling more Euro D listers ie: Franz Frans, Ookpic Hansswindler or Markstrom Markinstrum are lower than 99% of UD releases.

On the -or mem- thing the checklist is only 5 in 24-25 and 4 in 23-24. Of the players only Morgan Reilly would be considered a dud. So I'm much less worried - my math says it's 2% or so.

Honestly the biggest worry is the mountain of mediocre 22-23 autos. Hopefully the worst ones come as an extra card. I had done some rough math and it said that 23-24 and 24-25 base/base parallel autos should 74% of the boxes, mem autos 10%, mem 2%. There are more pre-23-24 autos on the checklist than 14% so cautiously optimistic of extras.

The other thing I'm curious to see is the expanded mem autos. Historically they were all low #d. Now they start /49. Since they are still approx 2 per master hopefully they aren't meh.

Maybe the checklist on Beckett is inaccurate but I didn't see that card listed unless I missed it. Weird given it's in the pictures

I see the base auto as SSP, but yeah no auto/mem.

I hadn't done the math, or the checklist search, but this is actually comforting knowing that MOST of the mem pieces are still auto'd. It's unfortunate though because most the big names are the mem-only (and as a Boston PC guy, two of them are on the list):

2023-24 - Pastrnak (only one without any autos, rarely does...), MacKinnon (has update a/m), Crosby (has a/m in 24-25), McDavid (has a/m in 24-25)
2024-25 - Morgan Rielly (only autos), Stamkos (has update a/m), Ovechkin (has a/m in 23-24), Marchand (has update a/m), Bedard (has a/m in 23-24)

The Orr is definitely on there. As you said a lot of great cards including glove, stick and skate mem autos. Can't wait to see this opened!

Upper Deck previously made changes to ICE... mostly to increase production numbers and now its a DEAD product.... and all prior Premiere RCs like those of 99 etc cratered and now its a product that is considered horrible...
then last year they made changes to Ultimate Collection... again .. to increase production runs significantly..... and subsequently now that is a horrible product and only the impossible to get shields have not cratered in value.. not worth opening as you are sure to get killed with horrible value for money..

NOW.. the absolute worst of all....
Stature was very good with low numbered cards llike patches to 1 or 3 or 5... or even max 15...... you would see like 2 hits every case as super low numbered...
and now..
Rookies numbered to 999.... terrible... patches up from those low numbers to 49....
there are no longer any insert sets which typically used to give low numbered rookie or legend versions...... like rookie excellence or wunderkind.....or for legends.. dignified.. they increased the base card version numbering to make up for this..
watching early box breaks... people are getting massacred like never before on value... not to mention there is only 5 cards in a pack down from 8 with a significant price increase...
If you have watched Stature breaks in prior years you would have seen where the breaker fans out the cards to show 3 or maybe 4 colored numbered cards in a pack..... not anymore with these packs.... with 5 cards.
the mandate from UD execs must have been to increase production for a very popular product... profit is the only goal.... but what they dont understand is that killing their own products loftly reputations like they have done for product after product will leave the product sitting on the shelf and no body around to fill breaks at such redic high buy-ins..
where everyone is gonna get killed...... I am staying away from this...
just another formerly great product ruined very badly by the profit mongers of upper deck...
dare I say it... but if you look at the 2013-14 year Panini products.... still so popular years later.... and amazing held value.... for many cards.. Panini deserves a chance to do hockey again and this terrible fail by UD.... ruining one good product after the next... very sad.

Can't say I disagree with your sentiment about Panini. I loved Panini products and thought that with them in the game, products were better, quality was better, and of course, value was better. When there is competition, it's good for the collector. Upper Deck has been running rampant with quality control issues, watered down products, sky high prices, etc, to the point where they've entirely killed brand identities (Ice, Trilogy, SPx). But, I guess you have to look at the bright side. Look at the prices of Panini basketball products. Basketball is super high priced and you get killed opening products. Other sports/companies are no exception either. As high as the hockey prices are, it seems we're getting a good deal. But, having Panini back in the game would create a situation where companies would have to offer better value, better products, better quality, and of course, better pricing.

All of the above was known before the release, obviously this is a discussion board but I don’t really get how people see product changes beforehand and still wait or expect boxes to be as good as previous years and then say how bad box breaks have been lol you didn’t need to wait for breaks to see it would be watered down

I open a good amount of wax, but I can also recognize the value isn't what it once was.

I used to open 20-30 cases most years of baseball/non-sport, but have shifted to just hockey this year. The ROI is less than it used to be, but I am at roughly 80% value for the year, excluding The Cup. Baseball and non-sport last year (and it's worse this year in those spaces) I was closer to 25%.

I guess it makes me a degen because I enjoy opening packs and building sets myself, but hockey is one of the few places that I can still hobby the way I prefer.

One thing I think we all agree on is competition would be better across all sports.

This is so true, and now you have the added issue with eBay of US buyers being financially dissuaded from buying from Canada, and vice versa. Stature is like Clear Cut where you think the cards should be worth more, until you try to sell them. Yes, there are home runs, but the glut of autos from the same players waters down prices.

You are the exception to the exception. Based on the cumulative experience you claim in your own post, you should be used to being lumped in by now. If not, here's your chance to let it go and not feel like everything applies to you.

Of course competition would be nice, but when is that on the horizon? It's like saying all pollution should end. Then the powers that be keep the status quo. Wake me when the hockey license is up for renewal and multiple parties can even hold it at the same time.

Discussion of another hockey card maker is just BS to conflate and distract. We can focus on the here and now, or not as I suggested isn't desirable for reasons.

Full recap coming in the break section, but from my full case it was an auto or mem/auto in every box. No mem only and only 4 update autos, and they were a bonus in each box they were in.

My one box haul since no one except my boy Butcher still posts in break section lol. I’m happy, Mintyukov Rookie Auto /199, Smith RC /249, Gretzky /1199 lol, Aho /199. Obv you’d prefer a Bedard/Celebrini but despite people assuring others there isn’t a large rookie crop from each class to fill with duds knowing me I’d still pull said duds lol so to get Mintyukov and Smith two guys I atleast heard spoke about during their respective years when YG’s etc dropped I am pleased. Stature overall is also beautiful I just wish I didn’t need to find the right top loaders lol

A ton of products like SPx, Credentials, Trilogy have terrible sales/ROI for most guys out the gate, but some people still get excited and enjoy opening it. Even Ice still has fans, not everything is about making money, if you’re opening any product these days expecting to make money on EBay I’d say you’re likely delusional. It’s funny how people will claim prices ruined the hobby then immediately jump to sales figures to judge a product and wonder why prices have gone up lol

I like that Gretzky, the legends have all been good looking so far. And I do indeed have my case break up in that section already :)!

From watching a good bit of this get opened, seems like my experience with scratching on patch cards is pretty common with this. Roughly 75% of the patch autos have a scratch or pitting at the bottom.

Some nice Orr mem in this release..... kind of sad none of my PC (Clayton Keller) but some nice Tavares cards in there.

Watched a ton of breaks and think I'll grab a few boxes.

Yeah I haven’t seen any Orr stuff other than what was posted in here earlier if anyone sees some cool stuff they should post here.

I asked my LCS since Butcher said his case didn’t have any non-auto boxes and this case also had an auto every box. The mems are gonna be rarer than autos lol hopefully they picked some good ones to match the names especially since seeing breaks you’d probably expect an auto per

I'm a crazy person so I watched GP open around 10 cases last night while I listed some stuff on Ebay.

He pulled an Orr /5 auto, Bedard /10 auto and Gretzky /10 auto as the biggest hits I think. Only pulled 2 mem only, a MacKinnon and I forget the other one. And tons of patch autos with the same scratches as the rest I've seen/pulled.

I think I will quit while I'm ahead on my one box opening of 2024-25 Stature. Nothing can explain the feels when you pull a card like this. I've had amazing luck lately with boxes. Also hit a Celebrini Future Watch patch auto /25 from a single box of SPA this year. Unreal!

I'd love for this come down a bit to open more, it's super fun overall. As with most everything, it's a money loser to open, but would be nice if it was slightly less so.
