Popped up in the Alcaraz NetPro thread, figured it deserved it's own thread. Nowhere to go but up from last years total stinker of a product. Alcaraz and Novak (maybe?) is a great start. Excited to see more details.

This thread pops up when you Google 2024 Topps Chrome Tennis lol let's make it good.

Really though, everyone said last Chrome sucked because of the names, nothing was wrong with the cards, I ripped some when it was heavily discounted, nice looking, some cool inserts etc. If the names are good this time it should be a good product for the tennis crowd, I don't think it will make football guys start ripping Tennis but similar to Messi in MLS products it will be a huge boost for tennis collector's.

Joker would be huge for me. Also Sinner, Swiatek, Sabalenka, etc. I'm sure there would be many buyers for Raducanu and Andreeva as well.

Any eta on release time? Or prepare for a year or 2 down the rd?

Leaf's problem is that they try to milk every athlete for every penny. They are putting out thousands and thousands of Alcaraz autos. Even the Sabalenka autos are under $100 now for the new ones. People know they can get one any time.

I agree on Leaf milking it

Any tennis product needs to have autos of most of the following players, at a minimum:

Men: Borg, McEnroe, Connors, Lendl, Becker, Agassi, Sampras, Federer, Nadal, Joker

Women: Billie Jean King, Navratilova, Evert, Graf, Serena

It doesn't make a difference how many 2nd/3rd/4th tier names you have if you are missing most of the big names.....

Yep - not going near these without a checklist. Didn't see anything saying autos/numbered cards were available in blasters either. I'll be waiting.

Well you already know no Jannik (Panini), no Iga for current or Sharapova for legacy (Upper Deck) and we know Carlos is in this. Can also deduce based off the last set Gauff will be in it unless she had an extremely short deal, I think Osaka was with UD too but could be gone now. I wouldn't say don't touch it but personally I think you can make a pretty informed decision on buying without a checklist unless you're holding out for some outliers like Sabalenka, Raducanu, Ruud, I'd be shocked if they have Novak if he isn't already with a company.

Huh? Knowing no information outside of Alcaraz being in is literally the opposite of an informed decision.

He's anticipating a lousy release based on the fact we know a few stars signed elsewhere and Topps would have most likely advertised big names like djokovic, fed, iga, etc.

I spoke with someone who owns a shop and they said they had a meeting with Topps recently. Release date will be late September and a lot of the top current players like Iga and Alcaraz are in. He didn’t mention retail but said there will be hobby and breakers delight skus each with 3 autos. Also mentioned some crazy duals.

I kind of doubt Iga will be in there since she has an agreement with Upper Deck.

Don't forget Topps also told everyone at their industry conference last time that Topps Chrome Tennis would include the top tour players.

Very interesting, im personally very excited for this release and been hawking all information i can, i found a distribution site saying the release is 07/31 and pre sale sites did say shipping august but that has now been removed.

Maybe they have delayed the release. I just hate waiting in anticipation, want to know the checklist and prices haha.

I’m excited for this release too. It’s what the first TC Tennis should’ve been.

I preordered 1 blaster case. I usually get 2 of everything but this was as much risk that I was willing to take last month when preorders were due.

I'm excited for the release, I see why some could be avoiding without seeing a checklist though.

In terms of Iga, it's possible she actually is in this, I think the landing page was dead last time but I found the press release when she signed with UD

No where does it say exclusive, which I what I was trying to see last time when I couldn't get on the page. If you check out the sidebar even you see they usually mention in the title when an athlete has signed an exclusive agreement. UD has already produced some very nice on-card autos of hers so I don't know how crazy her Topps autos etc would be but still big when hopefully she bounced back and wins the NBO. Jannik is definitely Panini exclusive though

Nothing more than what's already known (Alcaraz), which is already a huge win.

But hoping for at least one additional big name (e.g., Novak, etc).

Doing a tennis set without all the GOATs is kinda pointless.....for me to get interested in a Tennis product it would have to have, at a minimum, autos of:

Laver, Borg, McEnroe, Connors, Agassi, Sampras, Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Billie Jean King, Navratoliva, Evert, Graf, and Serena.

Would also be nice to have autos of Lendl, Edberg, Wilander, Seles, and Venus.

And dual autos of McEnroe/Connors, Agassi/Sampras, Federer/Nadal, Navratoliva/Evert, Serena/Venus, and Agassi/Graf would be awesome as well.

But there's no point in releasing a product without most of the GOATs....there just isn't enough interest in active players....

Ben Shelton is in the product, Alcaraz has no rookie designation, which is surprising to me

I'm leaning blasters, but hesitant since hobby lite sucked last time. We probably will get sapphire too. Idk torn. I'm sure the checklist will sway me and if it's too late price wise, so be it.

They secured the hottest active (and young) name in the game (Alcaraz).

That's a huge win.

Sure, it'd be awesome if they added other biggies to the checklist (or had on-card autos), but no checklist is ever perfect.

However, with it being CA's first TC card (and auto), it's a W.

I agree. It looks solid enough of a checklist already. Hoping they throw a few more top 100 in there. Excited!

If there's no Joker/Nadal/Federer/Iga, I'll buy a few singles but won't be breaking any boxes.

Iga is in it, minimum the "Patriotic Pride" insert set, I just suck at posting images and not gonna link a competitor but pics are out there, sounds like I saw the same images as X guy but this had Iga too.

Three autos is nice if they have some top names, sticker does suck though, I actually went back and checked 21 to see if it was on-card and had hope lol

Excited, but can't justify a case with the stickers and without a checklist. 2250+ is tough for 3 autos. Maybe some breaks and blasters.

But, if I a ton of money to throw around, i'd be down

Picked up 3 hobby boxes for $180/box. Missed out on the $150/box.. I think. Anyways, if anybody knows a cheaper place to grab some -- looking for 1 or 2 more.

I hate buying pre-orders bc of varied wait times and price fluctuation. But, my guess is the price stays or raises based on a stronger checklist and a new format that lends itself towards breaking.

Either way, this is where topps truly finds out how much or little demand there is for tennis.

I was really excited for this product.

Expected it to be priced reasonably like 2024 TC Olympics (MSRP at $100 per hobby box).

At $180-$200 per, I’m not really excited for it. Really don’t want to but I might have to skip out on the release. Need to wait on checklist/odds but don’t feel comfortable preordering any right now.

I hear you. Especially after the 2021 debacle. Wasn't expecting $100 personally, but around $125-150. But I only collect tennis, so this is my one shot. It may very well fluctuate wildly based on checklist.

Haha, I was expecting something around $120. But with how the last release failed and 2024 TC Olympics releasing at $100 per (for hobby boxes), I became hopeful of a $100 release.

If you only collect tennis, it makes sense. The price isn't absolutely absurd, but because I collect multiple sports (as well as some non-sports), there's just too many other substitutes of better-value.

Yepp. Definately a gamble! A few boxes seems reasonable enough to start with. If it drops in $ and/or the checklist makes my eyes pop, I'll pick up a few more.

Still too expensive but to be fair Chrome Tennis does have an extra auto and athletes people care about outside of every four years. Katie Ledecky, a top hit in the product, will be an after though in a few weeks while you'll still see plenty of coverage for a Coco or Novak. I mean Gable Steveson probably would of been a top pull in 2021 if he was in it lol

Looks like Medvedev is in this set. I’ve been trying to put together a collection of auto cards for every world number 1, so he’s a big chase for me.

Non-auto base cards (and parallels) of him would still be nice though.
