Stats 08-08-2023 08:53 AM

but hey, you can pull a Johnny Manziel!

baseballbunez 08-08-2023 09:02 AM

Full run of Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers autos, as much as those are valid knocks against it those are two big value adds (whether you care for em or not, they'll sell very well)

oldgoldy97 08-08-2023 09:28 AM

Young and Stroud are yesterday’s news.

Arch and Quinn are the next big thangs.

packman80 08-08-2023 09:31 AM

Never understood why anyone would want college uniform cards. Seems it's such a small thing that the prices are never worth what they charge for the product.

MD202041 08-08-2023 09:33 AM

I said in another thread I’m as big a college football collector as there is. I usually buy multiple cases of high end collegiate. I’m NOT TOUCHING this years so that says it all.

I highly doubt this would reach the floor, but even at the floor when you have 3 of top 4 QB missing autos and other schools having airbrushed pics without logos (Georgia Kentucky Miami Oregon Houston et Al) forget it

Because some people feel college is way more fun than NFL. Better colors, Bowl Patches, better chances to pull good names. Lots of factors. Immaculate helmet stickers are one of my favorite even if they are generic. Fun product for people who like it. I'll buy the crap out of this over it's NFL counterpart

That being said, any FOTL product is an overpriced scam for 1 parallel that nobody cares about.

If you looked at the most popular sports teams, schools like the University of Michigan, Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas Longhorns, USC ETC. Are all right up there with the Cowboys, Yankees & Lakers.

There is certainly a market for NCAA cards. The only question is, how long you can keep pumping that well.

Are ND fans going to keep buying new Brady Quinn cards each and every year? Not many will. They are more interested in Sam Hartman stuff right now.

Would most football collectors rather have a James Harrison signed Steelers card, VS a Golden Flashes card? Certainly. I cant see small schools like Kent State bringing enough collectors in to buy this stuff.

Its a balance, and as long as you arent making 10 college sets a year, featuring the same older players over and over again, it seems to work.
Never understood why anyone would want college uniform cards. Seems it's such a small thing that the prices are never worth what they charge for the product.
Why? Because I love college football more than I do the NFL. I collect both. In my experience generally better “value” comes out of college products because it costs less.

This is a great point. I collect UC Berkeley but have zero interest in pro uniform cards of alumni.

I loved being able to pick up Cal guys like Davis Webb, Kenny Lawler, Daniel Lasco, Chad Hanson, and Trevor Davis in older Immaculate and Flawless product. They are among some of my favorite PC cards.

But Aaron Rodgers (and Keenan Allen to a lesser extent) have basically been in every UD or Panini college product since forever and I've basically lost interest, especially as designs don't change much.

What’s your prediction on where Cal ends up moving forward? Can you imagine being in ACC? Wild times

It's hilarious (and sad) that BO has the hobby boxes on pre-sale for $700 :)!

Still trying to pretend nothing has changed and sentiment hasn't done a 180

Sold out at $466.67

Yep, I am much more of a Pro guy than college football. I still fully collect WMU players and especially in their college unis. The one good thing about having 50 sets a year is that there is likely something that is catered to every collector out there.

mossoholic 08-08-2023 01:10 PM

If the big 3 believe their hobby presale price is anywhere in the vicinity of "market value" they must have ended up buying almost the entire print run of FOTL boxes.
WhatÂ’s your prediction on where Cal ends up moving forward? Can you imagine being in ACC? Wild times
I don’t know but it’s bound to be bad lol.

Many Bears fans like myself are optimistic about life in general but pessimistic about Cal sports.

I would love to watch Cal play ACC games but it seems like ACC expansion would do more for Cal and Stanford than the ACC as neither program moves the (football guy) needle to help compete with other conferences that have strengthened thru realignment.

Plus Stanford seems to have more independent options and may end up preferring that path so even if the ACC offered, IÂ’m not so sure Stanford would accept.

I think Cal ultimately gets left behind in realignment and I wouldnÂ’t be shocked to see our football team eventually drop to FCS like UC Davis. Cal admin has also historically not wanted to rub elbows with the Grand Canyons of the world so joining a non P5 like the WAC might not work.

DaBears1985 08-08-2023 07:00 PM

Maybe if this was 2014. But it isn't 2014. Manziel is a bust and coke head. I still remember when I purchased a BGS graded Johnny Manziel/Mike Evans Immaculate Dual On-Card auto #'d /10 dirt cheap a few years ago, pre-Covid for around $75 bucks.

NEWS FLASH: earlier I posted why I won’t touch this set anywhere near current presale values.

I saw two FOTL boxes ripped. Panini has done the ABSOLUTE UNFORGIVABLE to completely trash this product beyond repair. What did they do? They got rid of ALL, let me repeat, ALL on card autographs.

In 2019 almost ALL were on card autos, starting in 2020 that was reduced to mainly top RPS rookies having on card autos but at least across 4 or 5 subsets. Now let me introduce you to IMMACULATE football with ALL STICKER autos. Seriously I could cry as a die hard college collector. This is so so bad even by Panini standards. You have GOT to be kidding me.

Sorry for the rant but holy sh!t wow

oldgoldy97 08-13-2023 10:59 AM

A sticker done right is ok. A sticker slapped on a “high end” card as an afterthought is ridiculous.

Not ALL sticker autos are bad. There are many products that for years have only had sticker autos and so you expect to see that.

But Immaculate Collegiate? HELL to the NO as a teenager might say

i am not saying it would be the end-all solution for stickers, but, this is what i would like to see done with them, if they are going to use them, especially in high end product with thick cards. since these cards are basically glued together stacks of cardstock, place the sticker underneath the top layer in a window like the jersey is and have the top layer with the picture overlap the sticker enough so you do not see the edges of the sticker. it might at least give the card a classier look and not just a sticker slapped on the card

Think up a bad idea. That’s up their alley.

In football, I collect almost exclusively college and primarily UGA players.

I lived in Athens, GA for the first 24 years of my life and went to school (twice!) at UGA. I have great memories of players like Gordon Beckham, Josh Fields, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Murray, Todd Gurley, Nick Chubb, Sony Michel… I still go to a lot of UGA football and baseball games and am incredibly active on the UGASports forums

Much more attachment for me

I bought a case of Bowman Chrome U back in February before the craze for that started and ripped another half a case a few months later. But Panini is done in my book with collegiate. I will miss Prizm Draft Picks baseball as I loved collecting 1/1s of UGA guys

All Panini Georgia players have air brushed logos anyway -- like the Leaf garbage

Tonic3 08-14-2023 11:03 AM

Panini did the sticker travesty on the Immaculate Collegiate basketball this past year as well. It completely ruins the best part about these immaculate collegiate products. The three years previous was almost entirely on card for the rookies. Vets were still sticker in most cases but who cares, the products are about rookies.

I’ll never buy Immaculate collegiate products again (and I opened quite a bit) unless they go back to on card

At least Topps is way more affordable for pure collectors… is it wrong to think it’s because their name isn’t “Panini” or “Prizm?”

tnvolfan16 08-19-2023 10:47 PM

i told some people on facebook, i will say it here. i have not looked at immaculate as a whole, just Tennessee cards, and it is shameful that beyond sticker autos, the fabric they are using is not only not game worn, but they are not even using real Nike replica jerseys. they are just using some cheap orange and white homemade junk and people are paying WAYYYY too much for it. i am pretty familiar with Tennessee jerseys and the patches look nothing like what is on jerseys. panini dropped the ball on this one and i think they are just doing the bare minimum to get by with what they have to do by contract. That makes me wonder what “authentic memorabilia” even means. Travis Etienne has helmet stickers in 2021 Immaculate where they use purple tiger paws. Clemson specifically does not license purple paws, so I have no clue where those could even come from to be “authentic”

I got a JK Dobbins helmet sticker card a few years ago from Immaculate, it was a 125 year anniversary sticker. He was not on the team that year (Sophomore in high school). Turns out there is a helmet sticker pack sold online and that is likely what Panini bought to use on the cards, I'm sure they have them for most teams.

I remember you posting that. Bryan Bresee has a Plates and Patches 1/1 jersey from Chronicles with a Cotton Bowl patch. We last played in that when he was a Jr in high school. I was at the 2014 (and maybe 2018) National and there was a seller there that had a patches from every Bowl game you could think of at that time for like $3 a piece. I bet those are easy to get also. Just sad what they've done to this product. I always liked it way better than NT Collegiate also.

Side note, I hit a Bresee Green /5 from Select Draft if you're interested. No fake patches on that lol

Yes, this reminds me of you in a Bowman U thread, in fact. You clearly stated that you don't have interest in college football, yet were posting non stop and being critical of college products.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If a topic is not of interest, why are people posting in it? For example - I don't care at all about vintage. You're not going to find me commenting and being critical in vintage threads.

It seems like common sense. But.....blowout.
