It’s hot.
Ac isn’t working. Convention center is broiling. Terrible experience. Curious to what the hosts are saying.

Man, what a bummer for everyone. Hope they can get the AC working.
|
Oooweeee! The smell of funk and heat in that place must be terrible,
|
Is there a ton of people right now?

People always say so many people stink already. This must be making it 5 times worse.
|
If A/C isn't working in the midst of this heat wave, well it's going to be a long few days. Yikes.
|
That's terrible on the part of the event organizers and even more so the owners of the joint.
|
Is it really that hard to have the National at a decent place? I mean seriously. Ghetto Atlantic City or Chicago with no AC. Why not, oh I dunno, Orlando, Denver, Nashville, Raleigh? My gosh.

It’s right next to OHare, not in the projects. Hot/very humid days are rough on a AC unit. |

The A/C is probably working but this hear is kicking it's ass. If it was 75 outside, then the a/c would probably be doing it's thing

True, but that's why you can generally add more/bigger AC units if what you've got can't handle the load... |
I hope this means smaller crowds when I get there. I would take that trade off.
|

Or just a ton of people there who smell like swamp butt. |

Sounds like a great line to use in show advertising |

84 degrees 72% humidity 74 dew point |
It’s going to be hotter tomorrow, plus more people. Brace yourselves.
|
The AC is working to an extent. If it wasn't at all, we'd all be in hell because it's scorching outside. Not comfortable inside, but at least it's bearable within reason
|

Tomorrow will not be fun, calling for 90+ with rain. |
Fanatics would source a functioning convention center.
Fanatics would source a functioning convention center.
Can’t they put the fan in Fanatics? |
It’s right next to OHare, not in the projects. Hot/very humid days are rough on a AC unit.
The AC CC isn't in the projects either. It's surrounded by a nice hotel, solid restaurants and shopping. |
Maybe Juneau AK can host the next National. That’ll solve the problem.
|
It's in the mid 80's and humid...people really think commercial AC units aren't built for that? Guarantee the corporate offices have AC.
Wonder if the Phoenix CC has their AC working in 108... |
It was worse yesterday
|
It was hot in the building back in 2021 as well. Wednesday and Thursday were horrible but Friday got a little better. Not sure about Saturday as I left mid morning.
Of course, that was during the bubble and people just starting to come out after Covid. It was shoulder to shoulder and not pleasant at all. |
Do the VIP's and Platty VIP's have AC at least??
|
Do the VIP's and Platty VIP's have AC at least? :confused?
Actually we do, it's nice and cool in the vip sections |
The National just seems like it would be a miserable experience for the most part.
|
I just finished my day at the show, and I’ll be honest, today was brutal. The no AC, the cramping of the aisles.
|

It seems that way through parts like lines, high prices, spotty wifi and AC, sore feet etc. However, at the end of every day, you look at your pickups, you look at the mountain of pack wrappers on the ground, the few hits you added that day that you may not have expected to whether through an unplanned event or a wrapper redemption pack, and you get incredibly excited to wake up and do it again the next day. If you love sports or something about the hobby, there's no way you can not love the National. |

ac works, it just isn't made to handle that work load of the national crowd. cheap facilities, cheap amenities |

It’s clearly an older facility…anyone know when it was built? |

Hot and smelly today...
|
It's a great weight loss plan inside at booth 949. We're sweating everything off. It's silly hot and humid and there answer is to bring in floor fans to move air around. Wow thanks
|
It was hot inside but the folks who are in the back corner in the green carpet area have the best spot imo. The AC was working today but there's so many people inside and the cold air isn't hitting all parts of the showroom floor the same. There is certainly an area that feels like the heat is barely on. Had the pleasure of coming across a few stinky folks too. You would think they can at least carry an extra shirt and some deodorant in that big bag that they carry on their backs all day, but nooo.
|
Somebody should sell water, personal hand-held fans, and deodorant. Maybe I’ll set up a table with that stuff next National.
|
It felt like the AC was working in the breakers area but there are more room and fewer people around it. Some areas are really cramped. The section that had Meelypops was barely walkable during
Still claim that if you want to make a bunch of more money, buy as many portable fans as possible By noon you could make a killing |

Hottttt as hell today.
Glad we left for a midday break. I was overwhelmed lol |
Yea it was miserable today, by far the worst I have seen it after going to about 6 nationals. Of course it has to be one of the hottest days this summer. AC not working in the skywalk either. The only place it seemed to work was upstairs in the open conference room and hallway. And of course I had a ton of stuff to wheel in and had to park in the 2nd garage for the first time ever so the walk was twice as long. Have to go back on Sunday to pick everything up but i am hoping by then it will be better. I think we will be seeing less people then and its supposed to be 10 degrees colder. This is my first and maybe last time showing up on opening day. It was insane how packed it was in there. I ended up leaving after just 2-3 hours. Figure if I want to buy anything I can get it cheaper on Sunday anyways.
|
I couldn't believe how hot today got. In 21 it was much better on Thursday, and this morning started off ok, but it got worse as the day went on.
Our booth is back by Topps and was getting pretty warm after noon or so. Its weird as you got pockets of AC in some spots. It wasn't as bad as yesterday, but close. I told people that I appreciated they stood at our tables looking through boxes for sometimes hours...everyone was really very good with it all considering the heat. |
Praying for all goers, hopefully no one rips an SBD!!

It is fun, but from a financial point of view I am not sure if it makes sense as I am guessing many people are dropping hundreds or thousands of dollars to attend and I am guessing most would be better off getting whatever they are getting on Ebay, but it is fun to buy in person and look at everyone's booth |
84 degrees

I heard Rosemont is a dump of a room, but easy to get to

That’s kind of what I was alluding to. The money, the travel, the packed convention center with a bunch of “influencers”, kids and a-hole adults? I’d rather sit at home and buy what I want off of eBay or another auction site for less money than in person at the National. Selling out there also seems stupid considering I’m seeing most people paying 60-70% of recent comps. Stay at home and sell it yourself for more money unless you’re trying to unload an entire collection or something of that nature. I get the attraction of seeing a bunch of this stuff in person, but it just seems like way too much of a hassle to really have any fun with it. |

The fun is that there’s basically a bit of everything in one place. |
The AC is actually working, if you are in the rows along the walls you can feel blowing from the vents.
Huge crowds are not helping. Ten minutes after the show ends th3 entire place is much cooler. But yes, in the middle of the show it gets miserable. |
Really just depends where you are. Our booth is in the new section and it was great no AC issues. I walked into the lobby and was surprised it was like a 20 degree temperature change upwards. I feel bad for the booths in the middle and older sections.
|
the middle section was brutally hot, the corporate and breakers that brought those ridiculous lamps were not smart adding to the heat. thought the new section people really lucked out, great lighting and air and the guys on the green carpet all the way in the back from the traditional main entrance also seemed to have great air and lighting. There was no excuse for the show and rosemont not to have decent temperatures and to block and entire section with carpets when they had room upstairs and by tristar for them was ridiculous.
wifi was fine. If you're going tomorrow bring cold beverages you're going to need them. |
Doesn’t look like the heat will subside today.

it looks like it would be fun, but if it is as hot as everyone says, I would be hating my experience. I guess I am glad I am not there.
|
I have seen several fans brought in by dealers, already just this morning!
|
It's pretty cool inside right now.

I'll be there soon. No shower for two days, Indian food, jogging, no deodorant, wearing short shorts and a cutoff tee.
Just airing it allllll out. |

From SC Daily:
…, two air conditioning units reportedly broke down, making the room uncomfortably hot for some but even that didn’t kept crowds from coming–and staying. The a/c was supposed to be fixed by Friday….. |
Seems cooler today, at least on the side by the breakers

|
The bridge from the parking lot to the convention was brutally hot with no option but to keep walking.

Those little AC units can’t keep up with the greenhouse effect of all of that glass. |

There's not a ton of this, but if you really PC a particular player and are looking for some rarer stuff, it could be at the national and hasn't and won't hit eBay. Especially right now since some people are cashing out on collections they've held for years since dealers are buying heavily with cash. Depending on what it is, 80% of eBay isn't bad considering a lot of sales may have been shilled and well... cash is cash. |
It has been a record heat wave...so pretty much anywhere in the country would be hot. But they should definitely have better AC considering the average attendee.

Is there an official national thread to discuss/ask questions
How are PSAs TAs How about BGS? RCR same day turnaround or are people having to wait. 2021 cards were delivered same day so no need to pay up for service Catching a flight in soon so wanting to get prepared on where to drop off |

Long line if you didn't prep your submission form. BGS forget it if you don't get there by 12n for a same day turnaround and no appt. Line is long and they only have a handful of people doing walkups. No presubmission forms with people dropping off boatloads of cards. |
I noticed they added some big fans around the convention center. Now if only they'd pick up the trash every once in awhile. The trash can by TriStar was overflowing by days end with trash on the floor all around it.
