Elly De La Cruz
Just posted on Goldin’s IG. Get your bids in now! In a down market, this shouldn’t go for more than $20k, right? That’s cheap!

His Rookie Card!!!1!1!!
|
What sportscards bubble?
|
$20k feels cheap.. id be a buyer if that was the price since his base autos are going for $3-500 and close to $1k for ref.. also, didn't someone pay $30k for the carroll red??
|
Id buy this for $20k in a heartbeat.
|
Ive never heard of her until this thread...but the Red Sapphire did $12k last week on Goldin. This should go over $20k easily.
|
$20k easy. Gotta hope he goes on a tear and that someone posts an article or two about him while its live. I'm sure the latter will happen
|
I was just joking about the $20k. I’m sure it’ll go for way more than that.

I’m shocked Goldin hasn’t taken out a billboard in Times Square and posted a video of himself calling this “The most significant baseball card to come out in the last 15 years,” yet. |
$281,000 with BP.

I pulled this at the National. :D

This will go for well over $100k.
Also, why get that national super put in an authentic slab? |
Great time for me to overpay for a 2nd Orange Sapphire auto yesterday :)!
|
Well it's not the super but I'm pretty happy with this one.

I would be selling those nationals as fast as possible.

It says it's in the "elite" auction which starts on Aug 24 and ends on Sept 10th. |
If anyone knows someone selling some Elly's Blue and Gold autos please pm me!

He has a 30% K rate which will only grow worse at the next level. Not seeing it either. |
As a Reds fan I see our next Aquino here.
|
Anybody know why the superfractor never got listed on goldin?
|
As a Reds fan I see our next Aquino here.
Not a Reds fan but this is an odd comparison. Aquino has a .774 lifetime OPS in the minors according to bref. He didn't have his first season over .900 OPS until he was 20 in rookie ball. Elly as a 20 year old has a .945 OPS in A+/AA ball. He's also hit 28 HRs, something Aquino didn't do until his age 25 season in AAA. Obviously all prospects are a gamble, but Elly's stats in the minors suprass Aquinos by a wide margin. |
As a Reds fan I see our next Aquino here.
Based on what exactly? The strikeouts? He's far more athletic, will play up the middle, and brings a dynamic power/speed combo. Aquino was a complete flash in the pan. Was never highly rated coming up through the minors, and caught lightning in a bottle with some power over a few months in the big leagues. Elly is vastly different, IMO. |
EDLC is already a far superior prospect than Aquino ever was. Aquino came out of nowhere and had his moment. EDLC is a consensus top 10 prospect no matter who you ask. He is also a switch hitter. He could easily be named the top prospect in the game next year.
That said, his cards are expensive at the moment. |

The k-rate adds some risk, yes, but as far as doing damage when he makes contact, de la Cruz is about as good as it gets.

Well, we know it doesn't stand for "no good". How is it that you wasted money then? I'd figure the BGS 10 would pay the $150 by itself and 9.5/10 still sells better than PSA 9 for me. |

Same thing. This guy could become a hall of famer and it still feels like a massive overpay. Hype and FOMO rule pricing much more than logic. It is the same thing for me. For the kind of money people pay for manufactured scarcity on top prospects, you can get a lot of really nice vintage HOFers or established patch/autos of HOFer/future HOFers. I get most people buying a card like this for 20k are only looking to sell it in 2 months for 30k or whatever. |
Aquino and Elly, both massive holes in the bat.
The Reds cannot develop hitters, plain and simple. Barrero was supposed to be the future and can't hit .200. Many more examples. Have to see more of Stephenson to know if he is the exception. I hope Cruz turns into a star, but as a former season ticket holder I've seen far too many misses here in Cincy. |
I think he meant wasted money having them graded by PSA.
Yup, just super frustrating throwing money at PSA and getting a grader that doesn't know what they are doing. |
At least they crossed over nicely! And Cruiserdaddy that is a fair point none of us can dispute. Votto is the last reds player to become a star and his rookie year was 2008.

It sold to a private buyer before it was listed in the auction. Probably won't see it again until he gets called up. |
One thing that is interesting to me is how the money is shifting between Elly and Chourio. Sometimes one outsells the other. IMO Chourio should be a little more (based on age), but that certainly wasn't the case last week on the basic stuff I'm after. The early returns this week look like Chourio is going to go for more.

Question for anyone with the knowledge and math skills.....if this, or any card, sells at a Goldin auction for $100K....what is the net to the owner after fees and taxes? |

Depends on the buyer’s premium %, usually 15-20%… and taxes depend upon the state, CA and NY would be higher around 8+%, GA is only 5%, and there are still a few states that don’t enforce the tax for internet sales, and does Goldin have a Vault they could send it tax free is another possible option. So min $115,000… max $130,000 |
His strikeouts this year are way down.

Buyer’s Premium is basically the auction houses fees/commissions that is tacked on top of the winning bid, plus the taxes. I’m not rich so I don’t know why they do it this way, but it’s how the rich do their auctions, auction house fees almost always on top of the final bid. The owner doesn’t get the full $130k, they’d just get the final bid price of $100k, with $15-20k going to the auction house fees/commission, and $5-$10k going to state taxes. Toomanycards prob hasn't submitted anything like this before. If you are the seller on Goldin then you will have a negotiated rate. For super highend stuff like this, that will generally be 110% or more of the hammer price. For example - if a card sells for $100,000, the seller will net $110,000 assuming their rate is 110%. It all depends on the rate negotiated between seller and Goldin. I know for PWCC - anything that sells between $10k-$250k will get 110% |

I’ve only been on the buying side on smaller items with buyers premium, and certainly not on any $100k deals, just assumed the buyers premium went to the auction house, didn’t realize some of that could go to the seller too. At this point Elly needs to be up this weekend for the Brewers series. Nothing left to prove in AAA. Despite ownership the Reds are only 3 games back. The division is up for grabs.

I despise service time manipulation and it should never be an excuse to leave a guy in the minors who deserves to be in the majors. If you are sacrificing the long term success of your club by calling up your best prospect, the front office has already failed miserably. The truth is, a quality front office will lock up a young star long term before any period of team control ends anyway, so having an extra year of team control wouldn't matter. The problem is when the team is cheap and refuses to sign their players and just wants the player to hit free agency and let them walk. And that is a recipe for a losing franchise. |
If they bring up abbot and Cruz and both perform even average they are prob fav to win the central. If your fav to win the division it’s not the time to manipulate service tjme

Don't forget CES. They brought up McClain, but pretty much have their 3-4-5 hitters in AAA. Abbott I think could be left down longer. He didn't walk anyone last night, but his walks are up in AAA. It would be good to see him get that down under 3 per 9 before calling him up especially in that home ballpark. |

The guy stated before to go all in and be aggressive calling everyone up. I would advise against that strongly for many reasons. The biggest is destroying trade value. If you think the reds are close to a WS with what they have currently (MLB & AAA), you need to open your eyes. The goal is not to just win the division, although would be improvement for Reds. The Reds will be left fighting for the wild card, once the Brewers bats get hot for a month. This biggest reason of manipulation is not length cause you are right its easy to lock them up with a new deal. However, having Elly at $1 million dollars or whatever he would be making and potentially producing at an all star level is how you can create an edge on opponents. Just like rookie QB deals in football. Wasting a year on say Abbott or Noelvi is where I would be concerned, not so much McLain, Elly, CES. |
If these position players are as good as they're looking right now, then the Reds have a real path to being competitive for several years. So while all of us would love to see them up now, this could be a big moment that sets them up for a several year run.
