I didn't see one, so I thought it would be a good idea to start a Riley Greene thread since he will debut on 6/18/22. I have been collecting Greene in the past and I am a Tiger's fan, so I hope he becomes an all star one day.

His maturity at the plate is known to be a strong suit of his and it's showing in his debut. Excited to watch him progress in his major league career for sure.

As a Tigers fan his walk off home run is great to see. I think he is the real deal and will be a future all star. His defense looks good too.

And very true, though I am at least appreciating Oneil Cruz rookies this year.

This kid looks great so far. Seems to have all the tools. His plate discipline is really impressive for a young rookie. The Tigers might have a future superstar with this kid.

He does not have the hype/tools of Witt or Julio Rodriguez, but he may turn out to be just as good or even better.

Buyer beware, Gregory Polanco looked like a stud his first month as well, wait until he has another turn around the league.

Thought I would bump this thread since I started it, but don't really collect Greene any more. Is top 5 in bWAR at 1.7 and may never be able to say he is top 5 in WAR ever again. I know that CJ Abrams is getting a ton of love on here but not Greene. Was sort of wondering why?

Because CJ is showing off the power/speed combo which sells much better than the drawing walks and defense combo?

I think of his 23 S1 RC as the ‘sad trombone’ card, so I keep randomly buying any other RC logo card I run across. I think my favorite so far is the Black Gold insert due to his positive expression in the photo. But looking forward to seeing more options.

absolutely true in the hobby world -but to me a great eye and plate discipline in a very young player like Riley Greene who can walk more times than strike out or lead the MLB in walks granted over a small sample -tells me of a player with a solid future as a hitter versus somebody swinging at pitches in an out of the strike zone and widening the strike zone for these MLB pitchers who can throw bullets and place them inches of their target with movement. i think he has the power speed and all the rest of the tools to be a star (of course barring injuries which he has had his share of) and who might be considered by some under-hyped

Ya don’t get me wrong I really like Riley as a player and I think there are some all-star seasons in his future but the question of why isn’t he getting hype in the way someone like CJ Abrams is, ties in fully to his style of play. Might he be undervalued relative to his skills? Perhaps, but the better question is what will it take to change that? How does his game need to evolve in order to no longer be undervalued?

Just one persons opinion but for me the talent is there-- -power. speed and in my mind he will eventually start seeing more strikes and come into his own -i feel alot of these younger players widen their strike zone and there are detailed records that catchers/pitchers have and they take advantage of this flaw. There are alot of ifs and a lot that can not be changed (Detroit versus some other cities )but if Riley Greene stays healthy, if a few more good Deteroit hitters start to produce than in my mind he is going to be valued a lot more but that takes time. But for now while its not "exciting to walk" he is setting the stage for the future.For my PC i bought 2 2019 Bowman Chrome autos -i was shocked how cheap they were-

I stopped collecting Riley Greene to focus on my main PC guys, but I never sold (as I am a Tigers fan). Should be an All Star this year, but might not make the team as Tarik Skubal will be picked for the game (and I doubt the Tigers get two representatives).

What is the Riley Greene card market like right now? I assume his cards are super cheap compared to when I bought during the Covid boom. Is his nice start boosting his prices?

I mean, almost is everyone is down from that shared fever dream we call “the Covid boom”, but I acquired all my Riley 1st Bowman cards pre-boom, so it’s fine. Currently I think he’s relatively cheap. Unlike CJ Abrams whose market is moving up.

When I came back into the hobby last fall, Riley Greene was one of the young players I followed (mostly via fantasy/dynasty) that I just kept an eye out for and picked up things here and there on.

The Tigers are not one of the more 'colorful' teams in MLB, uni-wise. White and Navy Blue doesn't really ever "pop." But everyone knows a Tiger is orange, and they do use a little bit of orange in their road unis at least. Anyhow, well after I pulled the above card I realized this 75 color combo is about as close as you can get to a Tigers "team color match" too.

The guy just keeps raking. He could be breaking out into a stud, BUT I think he’ll come way under any SB expectations anyone had for him. It’s fine.

I love the sapphires, but what caught my eye the most that I wasn't expecting was the Gilded auto. Dig it.

You could only (maybe) insert "value" into this one, if you find that necessary, by buying 10 copies for a 5 spot and then grading a couple. Otherwise, this one will never cost more than whatever it takes to get someone to put it an envelope for you.

Riley had 4 WAR for 2024 on Fangraphs, but 5.4 WAR for 2024 on ESPN. Make it make sense.

I really dig that Stars of the MLB insert, it looks a lot sharper in hand.

I love all the cards with RG in the throwback uni, it's why I picked up the clear /10 Rookie Debut on the previous page.

I will continue to hammer the drum that Rookie Debut cards are wildly under appreciated.

I am also on record on saying RC debut are underrated. What I like about them is they use an actual photo from their debut game. A lot of other RC cards are photoshoped.
