Does the team trust Trask? Or do we bring in a vet?
|
Do they resign Godwin? I knew after last off season eventually dark times were ahead. Thought there was at least 1 more season if not more with Brady.
|
I feel like it will be a rough off-season. I know Bruce says he has confidence in Gabbert and Trask but I feel like you'd be hard pressed to find many others that truly feel that way. Unfortunately they do not have a ton of cap space so I think they will be hard pressed to bring in anyone of significance. I do think they make every effort to bring Godwin back. They also have guys like Jensen, Cappa, Davis and Whitehead that I'd love to get back.
Id be lying if I said I wasn't a bit nervous. |

They will definitely bring Godwin back. He’s priority A. With the injury I think it’s decently likely he at least does a 1 year deal |

A franchise tag? |
You guys can have Matt Ryan if you want.
|
Brady is gone.
Gronk is probably gone too. Now what?
Mediocrity. Embrace it. |
Think the Bucs can restructure current contracts and resign enough players to have a decent team next year, but their schedule is brutal. Wouldn't be surprised if they only won 5~ games next season.
|
Gronk will definitely be gone if Brady is retired

I think it all depends on who they get as a QB obviously. The division is still pretty weak though. That should be 4-5 wins right there. Even if they only bring back a couple of their main FAs they still have an above average roster. I doubt they Franchise Godwin again. I feel like that would give them very little cap flexibility. |

Even with the injury, his resume means he will get a multi-year deal somewhere. If TB12 stayed, a 1 year deal could have been in play. Not anymore.
A franchise tag?
He's making 16m on the 2021 tag. It would be 120% of that for 2022, so 19m. I just can't see dedicating that much cap to a player you won't get a full season from (probably) A top priority is to lock up Jensen to pair up with whomever the QB will be. |

Leftwich as a player/coach?
|
Brady can't retire before playing a game in these
|
Jags hire Doug Pederson as their HC.
This means that it's very likely Byron Leftwich remains as the Bucs OC, which is not a bad thing. |
No. Just no.

https://www.tampabay.com/sports/bucs/2022/02/02/dont-freak-out-but-jameis-winston-may-be-the-bucs-best-bet/
Let me start by saying I don't think there is any chance this happens. I don't think either side wants to try it again. Thanks being said I'm totally on board. I'd change my mind the second he throws in INT but for now, sign me up. The Bucs cap guys are infinitely smarter than I am but I struggle to see how they manage to bring in someone in the upper tier. So if they don't feel like Trask is ready, where does that leave us? Bridgewater, Trubisky, resign Gabbert? All of those sound terrible to me. At least Winston knows the offense already. |
Last guy I want is Deshaun Watson. Don’t believe we are in on him, but in general situation is toxic. And who knows what’s gonna happen legally
How many INTs would you tolerate? 12, 15, 17?
Probably only 1, like I stated in my post. That being said, if my options are Winston or Bridgewater, Trubisky, Mariota or Gabbert, I'm taking Winston. I don't see them bringing in any of the guys that are currently under contract, like Rodgers, Wilson, Wentz, Jimmy G, Carr etc. Ideally, Trask is the option. If its not, I don't love any of the options, but there are certainly ones I love less than Winston. |
Unless something unexpected happens, I get the feeling Blaine Gabbart will be the starter until Kyle Trask is ready. Not a bad strategy. No need to rush Trask.

In Kyle We Trask

No clue why Kyler would be available but that would be awesome

@ohrnberger
Heard some interesting things recently... The Tom Brady & Bruce Arians honeymoon was over in Tampa. The retirement announcement wasn't because of the trouble seeing eye to eye on the offensive game planning, but the relationship was souring. Apparently, while Arians was rehabbing the achilles in the early mornings, offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich and Brady would work on the week's game plan. Arians would later come in and take the red pen to work they'd done. The QB and OC felt undermined, there was tension. |
Double post
|
So Ali Marpet just retired
That’s very bad for the future Bucs. Surprised that’s for sure. He’s only 28 |
Welcome to mediocrity!
I foresee a 7-10 record |
Chris Godwin officially tagged.
Given this news and the Buccaneers salary cap due to Tom Brady and Ali Marpet retirements it's very possible that both Carlton Davis and Ryan Jensen leave due to financial constraints |
Is Godwin good to go to start the season?
|
Lots of big names hitting free agency. Not a Bucs fan first (sadly a Lions fan) who openly bandwagons Tom Brady for his U of M ties and just overall my favorite athlete of all time; thus getting very familiar with the Bucs over the past 2 seasons including season tickets this past year.
It was fun while it lasted. I imagine the season ticket wait list got much shorter (if even existent) and I’m sure many true Bucs fans are just fine by that. |
Is Godwin good to go to start the season?
No idea. But I did manage to sell several Godwins on FB tonight. Liquidating as many as I can |
Is Godwin good to go to start the season?
They said pretty likely to start the season on time/at most miss a game or 2 if there’s any minor setbacks. Just making sure no major setbacks |

Add a solid vet to that young line. They need someone to anchor it. |
Well, Tom is back, so I’m back to rooting on the Bucs as my 2nd team and will renew season tickets lol.

Hold your horses...
LFG!!!! |
Congrats Bucs fans. You get one more year of relevancy.
|
So I wonder where this leaves us as far as our impending FAs go. I find it hard to believe that he didn't at least talk to Jensen before making this decision. I wouldn't be surprised if they find a way to bring back him back. You assume Gronk comes back. Maybe convince Marpet to comeback for another year?

Oh I bet today's news changes a lot of things. I expect the big names to return for one more run at it |
Also will 28 year old Pro Bowler Ali Marpet now "un-retire"?
Stay tuned |
Marpet has to come back now.
|
Marpet has to come back now.
Marpet: “I am not unretiring. I'm excited for the Bucs, gonna be a blast to watch haha." |
Can’t wait for AB to try and weasel his way back when he discovers no one else wants him. LOL.
|
First domino of Brady’s unretiring has occurred
Ryan Jensen resigns with a 3 year 39 million dollar deal Back to anchor the OL |
Jensen resigning is massive. Fills a key hole. Still have holes at both guard positions with Marpet retiring and Cappa probably being gone. They at least have depth with Stinnie and Hainsey. I’d like to see cappa resigned, if they don’t sign any other OG in free agency I think it’s very likely we take a OG at pick 27
Next step is hopefully resigning Carlton Davis |
First domino of Brady’s unretiring has occurred

Alex Cappa to the Bengals. 4 years $40 Million.
The bucs will have to address this loss during the draft |
Alex Cappa to the Bengals. 4 years $40 Million.
The bucs will have to address this loss during the draft
Losing two very good guards. Not exactly ideal, but not insurmountable. Have to believe that makes Zion Johnson a lock if he's still on the board. Obviously a lot of help needed in the secondary, too, especially if Carlton Davis takes a deal elsewhere....but I'd like to see them get another WR at some point. Luckily it's a deep class and there appears to be some WR talent slotted to be taken in the 3rd/4th round that you could make a case would be taken sooner in an average year. |
Schefter just tweeted Carlton Davis is expect to re-sign. 3 years 45 Mil
|
Marpet will magically unretire and Gronk will obviously fall in line.
Nah I think Marpet is gonna stay retire. Dudes an interesting guy, he’s already said he’s staying retired. I don’t see that changing |
Alex Cappa to the Bengals. 4 years $40 Million.
The bucs will have to address this loss during the draft
Honestly kind of expected Cappa to go to the Bengals. Great pickup for them |
Carlton coming back is huge. That was the next biggest free agent we had. Curious to see what else happens, you’ve got to assume Gronk is coming back next.
Here’s hoping we can sign a OLB to replace JPP |
Honestly kind of expected Cappa to go to the Bengals. Great pickup for them
Yeah, from everything I had seen it was sort of for gone conclusion that Cappa was leaving. Other teams could just offer him more. Pretty happy with the Davis signing. Have to do everything possible to keep that secondary together. Hopefully they are still able to bring back Whitehead. |
Just signed Russell Gage. Not sure of the contract details but I like this a lot. I think he can be a very solid #3 and he showed last year that he can step up and be a serviceable #2 if someone goes down.
|
Love the Russell Gage signing. Dudes versatile as a slot WR and outside WR. A perfect 3 to complement Godwin and Evans.
This is a top notch signing |
Awesome signing re: Gage - Brady will love that guy.
Hoping Darden takes a big step forward next year. Super quick but looked very raw when rarely inserted in the offense. Would be a big win in terms of depth if he challenges Tyler Johnson, who showed some flashes at times, for reps. Scotty Miller also wasn’t healthy all year. |

So I'm seeing that Gage was 3-30 with 20 guaranteed. Makes me like the signing a tad bit less but still don't mind it at all.
LOVE the Mason trade. Saw something where PFF had him graded as a top 5 guard, ahead of Marpet and well ahead of Cappa. If you believe in their rankings we got an upgrade, and at a cheaper price. I have a buddy who's a Pats fan who says Mason has moments where he looks terrible for the most part is very solid. To get that type of player for a 5th seems like a steal. Unfortunately its not all good news. Did see that Whitehead signed with the Jets at what seems to be a very reasonable 2 for 14 deal. I thought Whitehead was the most underrated player on the Defense last year so it does suck to see him leave. |
Mason trade is awesome. Protect Brady at all costs and that’s what this trade does. Ideally they’ll keep Shaq at RG his natural spot, and then will have Aaron Stinnie and Robert Hainsey battle it out at LG
Frees up the draft too, before this trade basically had to go OG at 27, now no need to do that. They can go BPA, most likely a DL player or maybe a safety to replace Whitehead All for a measly fifth rounder, not bad at all (also team saves a smidge of cap by not having to draft and pay a fifth rounder now) |
Bucs also received a compensatory 7th rounder for this upcoming draft due to the loss of Joe Haeg in free agency last year
Nothing crazy but an extra pick to take a flier on a potential special teams player is never bad |
Happy Gage got paid but Bucs overspent.
|
Happy Gage got paid but Bucs overspent.
Agreed but considering Christian Kirk got a deal worth potentially $21 million a year maybe its not that bad. Interesting to see what the Bucs do from here on out. Saw they were around $15 million OVER the cap and that was before the Gage signing and the Mason trade. I assume they still try to bring Gronk back but I don't know what else. Does RB become a priority in the draft now? Cant imagine they are ok going into next season with Vaughn as pretty much their only guy. |

They might still be hoping Lenny comes back. I do think RB is an option in either the 2/3 round |
