The Batman is back!

|
Not sure about this one. Hard to get past some of these actors/actresses. But I’ll watch it like I do most once they’re on demand.
|
maybe im naive but i think this is going to be a good/entertaining movie. sometimes we have to take a step back and stop wishing that every new movie is going to be or supposed to be the best thing weve ever seen.
|
Why?
Paul Dano also seems like more of a Joker type than The Riddler but I understand they really can’t go back to that well again. |

Yeah, I wasn't sure about Pattinson at first, but this trailer sold me so far. It has a very Se7en vibe to it. I'm digging it. |
Looks awesome
A dark batman film (Again) but a new take on it |
New trailer just popped up. Haven’t been this excited about a movie in a long time.
|
Ah man We have to Google it

There we go. |
So is this a remake
So is this a remake
It’s the beginning of a trilogy. It’s also the first solo Batman film in ten years. |
Zoe Kravits is super hot
|
2 hour 55 minute run time. Sounds a bit indulgent. Also got a PG-13 rating.
I love Matt Reeves though. I hope the movie doesn't feel like 3 hours. |
I got you Sibs.

Maybe it’s just me but it looks like trash.
|
Still need a Batman Beyond and have Michael Keaton play old Bruce Wayne.

Will have to see the movie Do like the riddler being darker Cat woman, no just no The new Gordon is hilarious, great actor but just stop. Interested to see more of Colin as Penguin |

Danny was great as Penguin. I’m just interested to see how Colin is since I’ve only sent the photos of his character. |
Bruce Wayne is like an emo billionaire kid all grown up.
Different. Probably won't like |
Bruce Wayne is like an emo billionaire kid all grown up.
Different. Probably won't like
Matt Reeves wanted this Bruce Wayne to be somewhat of a recluse after the death of his parents. He mentioned he got inspiration from Kurt Cobain's final days. Also, everyone needs to remember he is only in year 2 as Batman here. Incredibly raw and unsure of himself. |
This disgrace is going to be so long, boring, and stupid.

Agreed. He and Dafoe were great in The Lighthouse. I started to watch Good Time as well, but didn’t get a chance to finish it yet. He looks perfect for this role and the trailers thus far have not swayed my opinion on that. |

Patton looks like a meth cooker in a suit
|
Technically proficient, decent performances but not engaging. The movie is on par with Dark Knight Rises, my least favorite of the Nolan trilogy. 6/10

Did it feel like 2 hr and 55 minutes or did it flow well? That's what I'm worried about most. |
We’re going Sunday night and seeing it.

He was great in another movie I saw recently was very good in his role. |

Haven't seen it yet but it's said to be lacking the origin story. If so, the filmmakers left out a huge chunk of emotion just to make this version unique. |

I thought it was already known a while back that this wasn't a reboot origin story but was about his second year or early days after he becomes batman. |

I’m fine without the origin being done again, we all know what it is. Perhaps could have done with more focus on Bruce Wayne’s life |
I’m fine without the origin being done again, we all know what it is. Perhaps could have done with more focus on Bruce Wayne’s life
It does not need to be an actual origin story but referencing something of it would leave less of the audience feeling cold. From the trailers the movie looks great and is excellently cast (Pattinson too) yet so much of what makes Batman such an incredibly appealing hero is the orphaned boy. I think it's a mistake for a Batman film to ignore that part of his character even to make the movie more unique. They say blockbusters should kick 'em in the teeth with emotion and Batman's origin does exactly that. |
Haven't seen it yet but it's said to be lacking the origin story. If so, the filmmakers left out a huge chunk of emotion just to make this version unique.
Can an origin story that has been done to death really be unique? |
Can an origin story that has been done to death really be unique?
We don't need another flashback for the origin story to make it into the movie somehow. But ignoring it altogether and focusing squarely on the detective angle will need a heck of a great mystery to drive two hours of screen time. We'll know when the movie is here. |
Just under three hours of screen time, not two.
|
Is the movie worth watching in IMAX? Or just regular setting is fine? What do you think?
|

it kinda does get into it a little, just not in the way you’d expect. or at least it gets into it on a “sins of the father” way. kinda hard to explain without just saying it lol. probably didn’t need to be 3 hours, but it kept my attention the whole time. |

I personally didn't love it. I didn't feel connected to any single character and felt like outside of Batman and Gordon, you don't get enough dialogue between any two characters. It's a good drama, but Nolan's bad guys have almost ruined all other Batman's for me.

Did you watch the movie in regular setting or special ones like IMAX, Dolby, etc.? Was debating myself if I should watch it in IMAX... |

I just saw it in a regular cinema as there’s no IMAX near by. I can’t think of any scenes that would be better on IMAX as a lot of the action is close up rather than wide master shots that show everything |
Just got back. I enjoyed it. It didn’t feel like a three hour movie. For those saying there isn’t an origins story, there is enough mention of past events, and reflections of current events that make you understand and feel some connection. At least I did.
|
Plenty of mixed reviews about this movie so far.
|
It was good, well worth coordinating people to watch the kids so we could see it. A different take than previous incarnations but a worthy one. The world feels lived in rather than CGI'ed. Kinda like OT Star Wars vs Prequels as an example of that thought.
|
I almost fell asleep and left halfway through it. I went in thinking superhero movie and all I got was a crime drama with Batman playing more detective than superhero. It's just not my cup of tea.

Maybe your date didn’t enjoy the company? |
At times I felt this was going to be absolutely amazing but in the end didn't live up to that. Person sitting next to me left with 20 minutes left.
|
Watched it. Like the darkness portrayal of the characters, but not the story being a little too far away from the original.
|
I was incredibly engaged with it from start to finish, three hours went by in a blur. Up there with The Dark Knight for me which is my favorite movie. 9.5/10 for me, some small nits and one bigger nit that would be considered a spoiler.

Just got back from seeing it. It was pretty solid. Paced well.
Matt Reeves did a solid job of incorporating the comic elements while still keeping it grounded as well. I'm not sure why people thought a 3-hour movie was going to be non-stop action (not enough money in the budget for this go around). Batman is a detective first. And the movie did really well with portraying that aspect of his character. |
Just watched it last night with my wife and some of her family. I think everyone gave it a solid “OK.” I had a good time, but won’t have any desire to watch it again later down the road. I like a good slow-burn, so I thought the pacing was just fine, but Robert Pattinson’s mellow-dramatic personality was a bit heavy-handed for me.
|
Watched it in IMAX yesterday.
Enjoyed it! Brother-in-law felt that it was a little too long. Wife and I liked it. Wife did feel like Pattison's character was a little too emo but I thought it was fine given the traumatic life experiences. |
I just watched it. As a batman movie overall, I thought it was great. Top 4 out of all the batman movies. It did not feel like 3 hours to me. It flowed very well. It was very dark and gritty which is great for batman. As for Robert Pattinson as batman. Well that hard to say whether he was good or not. Really it could have been anyone. There was almost nothing of Bruce Wayne, it was all behind the mask. I think the penguin was great. The batmobile first scene was very good. Ita one I would watch again.

Agree with most everything you said. But as for Pattinson, you have to keep in mind this is Batman around year two. He played it exactly as he should. Playboy Bruce Wayne is a ways off. He’s still tortured and learning the ropes. I thought he was fantastic. |

Exactly. If there are future films greenlit, I'm sure the story will take place years later and you'll see his Bruce Wayne evolve as time goes on. |
Going to my 4th showing tomorrow night.
Love this movie |
I think I need to see it again.

Man I felt the same here , Pattinson was terrible and didn’t give that super hero performance .. one poster said a “emo” depressed version of Bruce Wayne was a good analogy . Wanted to be entertained and story line just dragged for me and was bored with it . They could have cut some of the scenes to shorten it . Adam West still the GOAT! |
Watched this last night on HBO Max. I thought it was pretty good. Better than I thought it was going to be. I see the point that some people are voicing with the whole "depressed emo" Bruce Wayne thing. Pattinson looked more like a grungy gutter rat than than a billionaire playboy. I know that's what they were trying to do but it was a way different version of Batman that we are used to seeing. All that being said, I was entertained and I'm sure I'll by the 4K Blu-ray when it comes out.
|
I am tired of them rebooting Batman time and time again.
Still think they need to do a Batman Beyond movie. Get Michael Keaton to be old Bruce Wayne. |
about 45 minutes into it, I said this is worse than Suicide Squad 2
|
about 45 minutes into it, I said this is worse than Suicide Squad 2
Actually the second Suicide Squad was fun. The Batman's biggest problem is that it's just too long. |
I read and saw in an interview that the Riddler’s personality was inspired by the infamous Zodiac Killer from the late 1960’s. For those who don’t know anything about the Zodiac Killer, he was a killer from the Bay Area that murdered kids at “lover’s lane” locations, call the police to taunt them, and send cipher messages to local newspapers. Some of his cipher messages have not been deciphered after 50 years. They also never found out who the Zodiac Killer was.
Most of the murders happened at and near my hometown of Vallejo, CA. I’ve been intrigued with the mystery for many years.. so when I heard the new Batman movie was inspired by the Zodiac Killer, I had to watch it. Unfortunately, I didn’t think the movie was that great. |
My wife and I watched it Friday afternoon. It was decent. I'm curious to see if they are going to do a sequel (don't want to give too much away for those who haven't seen it yet).
|
I really liked parts of this movie, but the end (last 45 minutes) was garbage. They really should have ended it with the Riddler being caught. Would have made it a little over 2 hours and I think a better movie.
Also it feels like every movie with hand to hand fighting in it has to have their hallway scene now. |

Supposed to be a trilogy. They also may do several spin off movies. |

Also doing a Penguin series on HBOMax (still played by Colin Farrell). |

Yeah it’s made over $750mm worldwide with a production budget of $100mm. I think it’s safe to say there will be a sequel. |
