2021 NLCS: Dodgers vs Braves Thread
Who you got?
I think this will be a breeze for the Dodgers, I got Dodgers in 5. Lets discuss! |
I don't see the Braves coming within five runs in any game.
|
I want to see the Braves win it and head to the World Series so they can stick it to MLB for taking the All Star Game away from them by being on a higher stage that is the World Series.
|
Yeah dodgers in 5 .

Dodgers please
|
Just like old times: Braves on TBS Wish we had Ernie and Skip in the booth
|
Just curious why people have no faith in the Braves starters. I feel like Morton, Fried, Anderson are better than the Giants staff.

That's what I'm curious about as well. I know the Dodgers have a great starting rotation, but the Braves arms aren't exactly terrible. |

It’s hard to have faith in a team from Georgia :)! But Go Braves! Don’t suck |

Agree, but the umps won't allow it. They were giving Urias a strike that was a foot low last night. Look at Kris Bryant's AB with a guy on first with no outs in the 4th. Kris has a 3-1 count and the ball was a foot low for ball 4. He took one step toward first and the ump calls a late strike. The next pitch he strikes out. Urias throws a wild pitch during the next AB, which would have put men on 2nd and 3rd with NO OUTS if the correct call had been made to Kris. The Giants end up not scoring anything that inning and lose by one run. |

Because they are no longer pitching against the NL East. Dodgers are a different lineup than any NL East lineup |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yep. It was a ball, but the indicator shows where it is caught, not where it crosses the plate. It was a lot closer than it looked. |
A foot? Cmon.. it was low .. but, Webb got the same calls ..
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The umps do just enough to affect the outcome of games. That's why so many people want a computer to decide the call. Even when they review plays, they still get half of them wrong. It's a shame how bad they have become. The Braves ump history has not been good in the playoffs. This series will be no different. |

Fried against the Dodgers this year: 12 innings, 9 hits allowed, 3 runs, 14 k's, 1 walk Morton: 11 innings, 7 hits, 6 runs (4 earned), 13 k's, 3 walks. Anderson struggled with command in his one start, gave up 4 runs on 1 hit. I'd say they mostly held their own against them this year. |
This match up has me screaming for seeded playoffs for MLB, anti climactic after that SF LA series. I think the entire baseball world would've been happier to see ATL v Sf and mil v LA in opening round.
If the Braces somehow get by the Dodgers it just means for a crappier WS. But pretty much any potential match up is not one I personally wanna watch every pitch of. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk |

Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk
This post seems to assume that the Giants and the Dodgers would have advanced and played each other in the NLCS. The Braves were 3-3 against the Giants this year (outscoring them 23-18) and played over played over .600 baseball in the 2nd half, only a few games behind the Giants for that period. They had a better run differential during that period and Fried has been arguably the best pitcher in baseball during that stretch (same could be said for Webb as well). If you set aside the 1st half and just look at head to head plus 2nd half play, that series would have been a toss up. There's a good chance that there would have been a Braves/Dodgers NLCS even had the matchups been ATL/SF and MIL/LA in the NLDS. |
by crappier do you mean easier for the astros/red sox to win?
Yeah, but I guess any makeup that allows the two best teams in either league to face off before the championship series should be looked into at the very least.

I'm a Padres fan and don't like SF or L.A. in the least, but the worst team in the NL playoffs needing to get by only the Brewers to get to the NLCS should be eye opening and open the window to propose seeding.

Winning your division should provide a benefit over being a wild card. Yeah, sometimes wild cards have better records than a division winner, but those are the breaks. This isn't the first time it's happened in baseball, and it happens in football all the time too. |
Divisions should be for geography based for inter division matchmaking. Or remove them completely i dont really care, all I know is in a seeded format its highly unlikely we'd be watching a 2v6 NLCS.

If you want to reseed, then get rid of the unbalanced schedule or make it less unbalanced.
|
The flip side of this is the Braves fans will argue that the other team should've played better
And if they put up a fight or somehow win the nlcs this argument is extremely valid. However if they're ran off the field in a stinker of nlcs dont think for a second the brass of mlb won't look into what brings more money and better competitive balance to their championship series.
I'm not one for a lot of change, dont like teams moving from nl to AL ala the Astros, but this is one change if fully support. That division series was quite telling that the two best teams in baseball were facing off rather early. And again, I hate both of them. Also, Flores didn't swing.
Want to bet on it?
I'd throw a few bucks on it if you want to give me what the odds would be for that to happen, sure. It's usually what on 5 runs? +600 or so? So, I'll toss $5 at it. And if we're talking for four games, meaning a four game parlay, you owe me ~12k on those odds. Deal? Would probably need to send over a contract for you to sign, unless I can get quite a few vouches. |
If you want to reseed, then get rid of the unbalanced schedule or make it less unbalanced.
I think its fine to face your division more than the opposite side of the countries division, just if you end up with the fewest wins out of all the playoff teams you're the bottom seed, the nl west was a tougher road schedule wise by far and the braves still had the worst record. So that doesn't seem like a logical argument for a Braves fan.

Already backtracking? You said the Braves wouldn't win a game. And you said they wouldn't come within 5 runs in any game. You want to stand behind your statements or do you need to edit your posts? |
So...
Fried v Buehler on Saturday in ATL Morton v Scherzer on Sunday in ATL Anderson v Urias on Tuesday in LA ? LA likely has the better lineup and bullpen but rotation wise it's pretty much even. |

Show me backtracking. Why are you taking this personally? So I can bet a keyboard warrior, what...a McDonald's value meal? What do you have to do with anything? I can walk down the street to the sportsbook and place a bet on the same thing that I said and in the off chance that it hits, I get a used car. Or I can bet some annoying dude on the internet for bragging rights? I'll take the used car. K, thanks. I hate the Dodgers with a passion, I am pulling hard for the Braves. They have zero shot. |

You go 39-9 vs Ari and Col for an .800 winning pct that means you should always get home field? That's why reseeding only works if the schedule is more balanced.

Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk
Well if you're convinced based on overall record alone and think I'm being a homer then you can be wrong if you want to. Baseball is a long season and it's pretty common for a team to have a mediocre 1H and a good 2H and be as good or better than a team that had a better record for the entire year. The Giants had the better year without question but that doesn't mean they are a better team than the Braves at this point. I'm not arguing that the Braves are better than the Giants. I'm just pointing out that realistically, based on the level the teams have played at in the 2H and how the head to head series played out, that series would have been coin flip. The Braves aren't the same team they were in the 1H and I'd certainly argue that purely based on talent from top to bottom the Giants weren't obviously better than the Braves going into the playoffs. That said, it's hard to imagine the Braves matching the depth and overall talent of the Dodgers in a 7 game series. They can't seem to win in LA either and haven't been able to for years. Add a healthy Acuna to the roster and 1 more really good bullpen arm and I'd like their chances but it is what it is at this point. I don't think it's going to be a cakewalk for the Dodgers and anything can happen but I think they advance in 6. |
You know who's more excited than anyone that it's the Braves & Dodgers? MLB and TBS!

I don't choose to pay attention to them though. PM me a screenshot of your bank account if it's 12k+, otherwise I'm done with you. You said, wanna bet? I said, yes. I will take the odds of Dodgers -5 on a 4 game parlay. How can you possibly function enough to get through a day much less the duration of how long a playoff series would last if you can't comprehend that I'm simply spelling out the terms of exactly what you were requesting. |

You are a special kind of special. My original statement, not statements, was that I don't see the Braves coming within five runs. Never once did I mention that I wanted to bet on it, so why would there be odds attached? YOU asked/stated, "wanna bet on it". At that point, I brought what the odds of what I was saying would be. Then YOU backtracked. I won't even watch the series, because it will be that wretchedly terrible. Seriously, how do people tolerate you? It's quite alarming that there are people like you that walk freely in society. |
Lot of people here seem to be early bashing the Braves. Me thinks you dont remember how close of a series it was last year....or you're just bandwagon Dodgers fans...either way, get ready for disapointment.
|
I mean I hope it's a good series. Too bad Acuna is hurt. I think the dodgers active payroll is about 70m higher and they probably should win, but that's why they play the games.

The common theme is those who severely oppose a seeded playoff in baseball are usually fans of the team with the worst record in their respective leagues.

The schedules did used to be way more balanced. Every team visited every other team about twice. There were always multiple west coast trips for east coast teams. It's not like they couldnt do it, the reason they dont I assume is due to the owners wanting to keep travel costs down.

One would think there would be a policy for the postseason, but that would require MLB to think ahead instead of being just reactionary.

The only article I found about the MLB relaxing some rules for vaccinated individuals mentioned nothing about relaxing the minimum time quarantine for positive players. When Yankees Gleyber Torres was positive for COVID in May, he was vaccinated, and they let him come back to play after a week. |
