Ohh i think i like this design

I'd imagine this design offers the opportunity to color coordinate the piping / name background to each MLB team

I'm not infatuated with this, but it is good overall and I'm quite happy to see this over something like the designs from the past few years. I do like what this means for Chrome

Best design in years.

I'm thankful everything looks easy to read. A little too much nothing along the bottom, seems like they could have pulled that down further for more picture. I like the return of the white borders, so long as it's not an every year thing like they did for a long run a decade ago. I sure hope the piping is team color coordinated, and finally I often change my opinion about designs when the cards are in hand, and as years go by.

I definitely get excited about the new year and have a pro-design bias in release year.

PLEASE have a good back. I can't remember the last time a flagship card had a fun back.

Huge improvement over the past few years.

So, it’s official, I take it, that Wander won’t be in ‘21 Update?

He’s enjoying his amazing first hit (HR), which is pretty darn fun, and a great story / connection on this card.

Would be fantastic if the SSP or SP is a horizontal, in all its glory, of him connecting with the HR he is celebrating in the main card photo :flex:

Why wouldn't Wanders RC card be in 2021 Update though? Wasn't that the pattern of RC Cards until last years weird Covid year...if a player debuted before the AS Break, his RC was in Update...someone educate me please.

Looks great, but it totally looks like a Bowman to me

There are no patterns other than Topps traditionally holding back a big name or two to move next year's products. They do this with Bowman products already, holding back a current year draft pick from the draft product to headline the next year's cards.

Technically, Wander's first 'pro' card was already released as a Topps Now card.

Regardless, love this look for 2022!!

That would be a huge financial mistake by Topps. Why give him one rookie card when he can headline 10+ products next year?

Are you sure this isn't the 2022 Bowman design?

If he continues to struggle the rest of the year will he be the worst player to headline a topps series? Guy has literally done nothing in mlb yet.

Yordan debuted before the ASG and wasn't in Update. It is no guarantee. Typically, if a player debuts by mid-May he will be in Update, after that in June who knows.

July or later, nope.

Definitely gives me a Bowman vibe but it is leaps and bounds better than the 2021 design

i know because of the age of parallels the base design basically needs to have white background, but im curious if they will ever break off this ever again

It’s pretty consistently, first couple weeks of June is always the cutoff. Cutoff had already happened before Wanders call up and the decision was made before Wanders call up.

The top 80% of the card is very 2013, which I can't help but like (again). The bottom 20% makes me think I'm watching MLB TV, which I don't mind either. Psyched for chrome and parallels, and not so much for the opening price. Gulp.

Beauty, harkens back to 2010-2013. 2021 is the worst design in decades. This and 2019 are class, bruv.

That's because the Bowman (and Bowman's Best) designs have often been better than the Flagship design. :D

Seems like Topps products are converging in on itself: Bowman's Best and Finest are steadily becoming indistinguishable; Museum becoming more and more like Tribute; now Topps flagship resembling Bowman.

Nobody cares about call up dates. They care about money! Topps is a business. A business that likes to make loads of money!

2021 is meh but I absolutely hate 2020.

Hoping the black parallels resemble 2010-2013, they had a nice texture/gritty look to them

MUCH better!!! The trend towards Bowman-like design still marches on, but a big improvement from this year. Looking forward to it.

Very simple design and I like it!

Good solid honest design. Also a bit simple, which in theory allows them to max out on design variations for offshoot products, which probably matters the most to them.

First design in a while without moon beams or space trash it seems. I’m a fan.

Was thinking the same. Some of the non-standard parallels (i.e.- Yellow Walgreens & Purple Meijer) could really pop if done right.

I think it's a solid design. I, for one, prefer the "no borders" look, but this looks pretty good. I definitely think it's an improvement over 2021.

It's a little plain - but I like that better than flashy (especially because "flashy" doesn't tend to age well. I mean, I *loved* the 2015 set when it came out but that looks so dated in retrospect).

2018 Indy Day retains its status as the All-Time parallel champ!

Disappointing to see Topps using the 1987 design for the "35th anniversary parallel", since they just used it for the "30th anniversary parallel" five years ago, and also used it as a mini insert in 2012 Topps.

Would much rather have seen them use the 1982 design for a "40th anniversary parallel"...
