2018 Double Rip — What do they put inside?
I found this old double rip card from 2018 that I pulled and saved for some reason. I did a quick Google search for what might be inside, but some of the sites were merely speculating (before the product hit the shelves) and some listed "artist originals," but I couldn't find any images online, so I wonder if they do exist. (Maybe they were full-size redemption cards?)
So far, the possibilities list is something like: Extended Base Mini Cards Red Ink Auto Mini Cards (I saw one or two Ohtanis.) Wood Mini Cards (But only the extended series; the 1-300 cards are AWOL.) Artist Originals (Are these mini cards, redemptions, other?) Metal Mini Cards Am I missing something in the above list? Just trying to weigh my options before deciding to rip or not. (FWIW, I'm sure that I don't have a metal mini inside, because my magnet doesn't react.) Thanks in advance, everyone. I like how they number a card they expect you to rip through?
|
Almost certainly will be 2 extended base minis (at least in my experience)
|
I looked these up on Ebay to check them out. People sell already ripped cards LOL You need to get your head examined if you buy empty ripped cards

I disagree. I'd happily buy that cards after it was ripped as long as it stays presentable, which they tend to do. I Devers Rookie year card from a popular set, numbered /15? I'm a buyer. |

You sure think highly of your opinion. |

Any Boston collector would scoop this up. |

Well that proves my point, someone collecting boston should have their head examined anyway Go Yanks!!! |

I keep a spreadsheet of the wood minis as I collect the mini parallels as much as I can. The wood minis are a personal favorite of mine in my collection. You know you don't have metal, and I can tell you I have 26 of the 50 wood minis marked on my sheet as have been pulled (I am sure there are more as not everyone posts or sold on eBay.)
Additionally, I have pulled an artist original out of a Byron Buxton single rip from 2018. There are 30 1/1 art cards, and they are all live. My opinion if you are willing to accept you probably have two EXTs then I would rip. If you would prefer to sell and make a some money, that is probably the better option knowing metal is not in there. The Ohtani EXT sells well and obviously a red ink auto would be massive. |

In about 75% of the double rips I've seen, it's been 2 EXT minis (just to add another data point). |

I understand you’re trying to backpedal to make it seem as if you’re just a jokester and trying to get a laugh, but your posts clearly show your ignorance. Go ahead and reply to this. I’m waiting for your next troll response... |
Just to sneak back on topic for a moment, the above list of possible pulls is complete, yes? I'm not leaving anything off the list? Thanks again.

The Ortiz card, at the bottom, lists the possible contents. Looks like your list is accurate :)! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Team & master set collectors....all day long $$$ same as used redemptions. They are set fillers mostly. |
I pulled a double rip in 2016 and another one in 2017. The 2016 yielded a red auto (B. Drury) and an extended mini. The 2017 had two extended minis.
|
I would leave it sealed. These become brutally hard to find sealed in relatively short order. The value sealed outstrips nearly anything you could possibly pull.

Pretty sure when someone ran the numbers it was an 89% chance of two extended minis in a double rip card.
Also, Topps forgot to add the slip of paper inside the 2018 rips (pretty sure it was 2018), so someone can shine a light through these. Don’t buy them on eBay and expect to find anything rare inside. |
I had a 1/1 inside one of mine once.
|
50 years down the line those will be rare ubripped so I say keep as is but I can understand if it gets to tempting and you rip it lol

Don't rip. Carefully cut open with an exacto knife and reglue with wood glue. Just don't sell it as original.

Yes, I remember that trick / controversy with the 2018 release. Unfortunately, I remember trying it on this double rip card at the time, and it didn't work. However, it DID work on a single rip card that I pulled around the same time. (Nothing good in that one.) Thanks again, everyone. |

I bought one like this on consignment once. Was not detailed as ‘opened’ or as it should be stated ‘ripped’. Needless to say I wasn’t happy and consignment shop gave a full refund. Buyer beware on Rip cards. |

I'm on team Don't Rip. It's numbered to 15, and my guess is that some of them have been ripped. And while it obviously isn't a "rookie" card for Devers, it's from his rookie year. That's a fun card.
|
Rip it. Always rip.

yeah quite humorous he had no idea of the collectability of the ripped ones |
2 EXT minis were in my Double Rip, Musial and Seaver. I had no problem ripping it since I hate the Giants
