Awesome story but I feel like there has to be more people out there with more than 4 million cards.
Yeah, yeah, Debbie Downer here... |

Why isn’t he listed on Forbes’ billionaire list?
|
Really is a fantastic story.

Waiting for tone deaf to call this guy a loser.
|
Classy move by Tim Flannery there. So cool.

A+ post! |
Idaho Falls is where I got my first minor league foul ball, and I gave it to a little guy sitting near me. He was super psyched!
That city in general is fantastic and completely surprised me how much I enjoyed it. |
Waiting for tone deaf to call this guy a loser.
Is he standing in line at multiple targets for 10 hours? lol |
He looks like the Cowgirls head coach, spacing on the name right now
|
Burbank has 44 million. How is this a real story?

Is Burbank a man? |

I had a friend and his wife at my place the other night and explained a little about my collection and box breaks as I was interested in potentially hiring her to help with my business She then proceeded to say anyone who collects cards is a hoarder and asked me if I have ever seen any of those shows on AMC. Good times |

Maybe he could help COMC get their s**t together

Ok, which one of you degenerates is this guy?
I know you're here. |

Good for him. Some times it's about cards. Not the money. Not the rarity. Just the cards.

Exactly my reaction.
Is Burbank a man?
Essentially yes, I believe Rob (and family) owns the entire business. He has employees, sure, but he's effectively the owner of 40M+ sports cards. It's not like he's going to spend his time hounding press for a meaningless article like this, though. |
This thread is going to be fun to watch. BO is going to go full BO.
|
For the record 3.2 million of his cards are just 1988 Topps lol

The story specifically states he has the most baseball cards for a private collector.
Rob and family at Burbank is a business |
Exactly my reaction.

Curious, how was it camping out in front of Target last night? Did you kick any elderly or handicapped people on your way to hitting your 3 per SKU limit? |

Lol, it’s just a nice story about a father and son who can bond through cards. |

That sounds awesome! Maybe Rob should house his collection somewhere that people can come visit him and take a look at it. Maybe if they like some of the cards they could offer to take them off his hands, perhaps for a small contribution towards the upkeep of his collection? If it gets too big for him to manage himself he could even get some volunteers to help out. Give them a little stipend to cover their expenses. |
Great Article. I think they showed a quick spotlight on him on that Sports card documentary in 2019, Jack of all trades.
https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com/jack-of-all-trades-baseball-card-documentary-tells-more-than-1-story/ The documentary was an interesting story, kinda sad at some parts. In regards to the article, Thanks for the read. The guy (Paul) loves his cards, probably more than I ever have (and would) in the last 30 years. So it is awesome to see that much passion from anyone. |

Saw this article yesterday and I really wonder how many rare cards he has in there that people are looking for and will probably never see. Doesn't seem like he cares about value, and just opens cards and them sorts them. Who knows how many 1/1s he's pulled over the years, or valuable rookie cards. How many Delgado cards does he have in there that I need???
Could be a lot, could be none. But it makes you think haha. Who knows, maybe the 2006 Longoria Superfractor Auto is in there somewhere :D. (But seriously, it's awesome he has fun with it and gets to share it with his father.) |

Telling someone else this story and trying not to get choked up. “No I’m not tearing up!”

That's incredible. I know back in the mid 90's my dad and I probably had 250,000 total cards, but that was between baseball, football, basketball, and a little bit of hockey.
|
I'm down to about 250k. I've donated, trashed, and sold at least another 400k. 4 Mil is a lot but no where near a real record I would imagine.
|
Huh - I lived in Idaho Falls a few summers ago, broadcasting for the Chukars team mentioned at the end of the piece. I'll bet I crossed paths with him a time or two.
|
Awesome story. Thanks for sharing. :)
|
"It helps you read, spell and do geography," he said. "It helps you keep going every day. It takes away the thing, that I'm missing Gene 16, from my head. You don't have to worry about that every day. ... It's just a fun thing to do." ...
Love this ... Thank you for sharing a beautiful story |
He wants to get to a billion. What would that even look like?
|

Everyone on here, who just trashes their base, should send them to him. |

And since everything is organized in “ABC” order, I don’t think it would be hard for him to find his Delgado cards. Who’s ready to reach out and find out if he’ll trade to help him get to a billion cards? He only has 996 million more to go. Which means he only needs to trade one of his cards for 250 of your cards 4 million times to get there. I would give him 250 cards for each card he has that I need. |
I’d still only offer him $350.
|

Yeah, yeah, Debbie Downer here...
Going over to a friend of mine's house to help him out. He never got married and just spent money on cards, he'd give this guy a run for his money. |
Classy move by Tim Flannery there. So cool.
Flan is a really good guy - he's done a ton of charity work over the years, most of it with little fanfare. Got to visit with him during one of the Giants trips to Hawaii, and as you might imagine, he has an endless supply of hilarious/crazy stories. |

Ill reach out if someone has his info, but im not spending my time trying to track down the info! Was thinking the same thing after I read this thread. |
I think it's even crazier that they're in alphabetical order...
I do highly doubt that he was the highest when Guinness gave him the record with less than a million cards though. My nephew is autistic and he's the same way. I can name any card he has and ask him a stat and he can tell me the answer. How many strikes did x have in 1985 and he can tell me instantly. It's cool and kind of scary. |
