Based on the 1990's thread, to show off inserts and parallels game used etc, from the 2000's. In my opinion the 2000's had a lot of changes in how cards were collected moving from beautiful inserts to Parallels and game used items (first released in 1997 but became super mainstream in the 2000s!


So show them off!!!
Also if you want name the set so people can go look if they like the design!

A few of my favorites from the pc. I went with non-rookies here, but just picked up a PSA 9 Pujols chrome. I am slowly picking up graded rookies of HOF players I actually watched and preemptively snagged it. I am starting to delve into 2000s era graded rookies, but love me some 2000 era inserts. The Pujols below is #'d 5/5 which I always thought was cool. Outside of the Rolen, I pulled all of these around the time they were released. This one makes me so sad. Why can't today's Topps gold parallels actually look like the color that they're supposed to represent like they used to in the past? Nowadays, they tend to more like olive green or brown like the unsightly example below:

2009 Topps Ticket to Stardom. Got a couple boxes on clearance at $35 a few years back. Real rough break but I got lucky and pulled this Chipper as well as a low end booklet. Can’t even really find these anymore. Lots of autos of guys that didn’t pan out but also Kershaw, Pujols, and a few other big names.

Great cards. Those AFLACs were a big deal back them. If I recall correctly, they were the first prospect 1/1s. I think I’ve a Volstad red somewhere.

Absolutely beautiful, my second favorite Pujols RC. I sold mine in Summer 2019 for $4500, guessing its worth quite a bit more now. It was one of those cards I missed so much I had to go out and buy another one a few months later (albeit a PSA 9). I was able to snag my personal holy grail this past spring and sold what will likely be the last Pujols retrofractor I'll own just a couple months ago.

I started collecting seriously as a kid in the very late 90s and early 2000s and the 2001 BC Albert Pujols auto was always THE baseball card to own during my formative collecting years. I never imagined owning one myself but the COVID boom helped me achieve one of my lifetime collecting goals and I'll never balk at an opportunity to show it off.

One of the most iconic baseball cards in existence:

Very nice! yea the ruth is pretty cool! The bowman sterlings look so sick though, i might have to go acquire one of somebody for my collection!

It is sad that all of these cards are a product of 4 card companies all vying for your hard earned money. Competition kept products fresh and ideas coming. Fleer and Playoff pushed more great cards out in those few years than topps and panini have in a very long time. Everyone was happy when UD went out of baseball, football and basketball, but when you look back, no company made more beautiful cards. Damn.

That competition shrank manufacturer margins and bankrupted all but Topps...who, by consensus, didn’t expend the same amount of resources as the others...plus they had the truly unfair advantage of being the only manufacturer allowed to display ore-rookies as major league players.

But UD was the least ethical manufacturer of all of them. Even though the hobby’s full of crooks, we should all be most thankful they’re gone.

Couldnt agree more, topps being the only one with a license now reduces all the cool cards that were coming out. Now its like 6 sets with the same pictures but different colours and of course chromeatizing everything!

Decided to try building a rainbow of LeMahieu from 2020 and he ended up with 80 variations of the same card. Insane how many sets they can pump out by changing so little.

Love those!!

This thread makes me happy and sad at the same time. The 2000's were the prime years as a pre-teen and teenager collecting and where most of my memories are... Really loving reliving a lot of these cards/sets, but sad we're so far removed from some of these.

I just had to revive this thread, because I landed a legendary card of Canseco's recently. It is from his first ever patch release, and only one of two official patch releases from his playing career.

When this came out in December of 1999, the 2000 Upper Deck Game Jersey Patch was an extremely tough pull: 1:10,000 packs - or, to get your player, it would be 1:200,000 packs. It is the only released patch card of Jose from when I was a teenager.

So, here it is: It is the nicest I've ever seen!
